Stupid Question (1 Viewer)

I am currently involved in 4 Dynasty drafts going on right now. 2 Auctions and 2 Serpentine drafts. My sidekick is constantly buzzing as I am getting emails about all of the draft action. Well my wife and I had friends over and all asked me why I had 4 drafts going on in May when the season doesnt start until August. After thinking about it, I had no good answer so I just said, I dont make the rules I just follow them

So why is it that we have Dynasty drafts now. Is it just to feed the addiction while waiting for the real deal to begin or is there something I am missing. Dont get me wrong, I love this. But it does make sense to wait at least til mini camps are well into action.

To keep it real maybe, NFL teams doesnt get camps before making their picks either.
:lmao: Plus it helps spread it all out. 16 weeks of a season is way too short, this stuff is gold.Spending a few days trying to trade down out of the #7 pick, then stressing like mad when the pick comes up, because the two guys you were thinking of taking are still both on the board and you're not sure of who to take..... great fun this early on.

I am having a dynasty draft today. We have our draft in May and as soon as possible after the NFL draft to keep the rookies and their teams fresh in our minds. We also do it just to spread out fantasy football throughout the year which is GOLD.

I commish one redraft and one dynasty both drafts or in August. I'm in two others for in which the draft is held in May, like you, I don't question............just follow the rules of the league.

We agreed to the rules no need to make a big deal out of it.

It's not a stupid question. And of course there are going to be dynasty drafts throughout the offseason, on into August. But I can think of a few reasons we are having dynasty drafts now.

1. The NFL draft was just held and interest is high right now among hardcore football junkies. With most of free agency signings and the draft out of the way, lots of us are eager to go. We delude ourselves into thinking we're GMs putting together a real team that lasts beyond a year, so we want to play GM as soon as the real draft as possible.

2. Dynasty drafts are less dependent on the upcoming season than redrafts are, so there is less focus on waiting to get every last ounce of info in preparation for a draft. In redraft, if you take a player and he turns out not to be the starter, you've been hurt a lot more than in dynasty, where you may have drafted the guy for the future anyway.

3. A lot (most?) of us who do dynasty leagues have multiple leagues and also do redrafts and other stuff. We can do these startups now, then later on have our time free for rookie drafts, redraft leagues, survivor stuff, FBG contests, etc. Spreading it out makes it less likely the wife will leave you in August (though it didn't help in my case).

4. Because we are sick bastards who need our fix all the time so we don't go through painful withdrawals.

I like all of CP's post but he left out on of the biggest reason:

Everyone can come to FBG and other sites and read articles and camp notes and things of that nature, But I think it adds to the intrigue of draft on your gut feelings and who you think will make it. Thats what I like about drafting early. For those of us who like to do alot of scouting, film work and watch alot of college football know who we want anyway and want to get them before the reports make them the flavor of the month. For instance there may be a guy you like and not many know of and you plan to take a late flier on him. Well if you wait till after training camp and the dust settles and you were right about him now you have to spend a higher pick than you thought.
