Subwoofer question (1 Viewer)

I know this is probably a Honda but the search function....

Anyway, I need to hook up my polk 10 inch powered sub to my Yammaha reciever. Is it just one RCA wire into the red or white on the sub? Is there a better way? Does it make any difference in the sound quality? I also have a Bose acustmiss setup which is OK. Hopefully the sub helps. Tia.

Anything will help out a Bose system. A hammer, for example.

Fire is effective too but was trying to stay on point.

No mids??? The usual bad joke is no highs no lows must be Bose.

Just goes to show sound is very objective. Bose is a well made product that sounds great. It may be over priced but it's worth it IMO.

If you like it keep it. Bose is one of those products that are cool to bash.

If it was worth it, it wouldn't be overpriced. If it's overpriced, that means it isn't worth it. That's sort of the definition of overpriced.

This is one of the old ones. May be the originals. I have been playing Dead shows on it non stop and the highs are very good. There are mids but they are very weak at times imo. The lows are not much better (especially at low volume) which is why I got the sub. I used to play sax and have a good ear. I did change the receiver from a Sony to a Yammaha a few weeks ago and my setup has a different sound now for sure.

I have Bose speakers. Actual big speakers not the little satellites. I think they sound good and they were cheap too

You can put the woofer in a foil pan and place one on top as well. It simulates the old model civic with a 2000 watt woofer rattle that we all appreciate and want to emulate.

Bose has done an excellent job marketing to (and satisfying) their target customer - non-audiophiles who want something a little better than the $499 home theater in a box.

The very definition of "good enough".

My iMac is overpriced compared to specs in a PC. But it's still worth it.

My 2.1 Bose system is great for my TV. Looks good and simple for others to use.

Bose system in one if my cars is amazing.

Bose portable sound dock great sound as well.

Not saying they are the best available but most people that bad mouth then have never owned one. It's just cool to say they suck.

I haven't and won't. They used paper cones for way way way too long, long after better materials were available for cones. They use their patented sound "chambers" to make the audio sound "fuller". Most of their small systems audio is so muddy it's ridiculous. They market incredibly well and engineer incredibly poorly IMO.

Well I'm glad you are honest that you have never tried them. I have tried them and have been pleased.

I've listened to them plenty of times though. Would never spend my money on them.

The badmouthing of Bose usually comes from a comparison to audiophile level gear. It's not audiophile level gear, and is inferior to speakers that may actually cost less, but require some research / digging / secondhand market. I bought a pair of used B&W speakers for $300 that crush anything Bose makes. But it took me a while to find them, and there's the uncertainty of buying used online from a private seller.

That's not a badmouth. I have owned Bose, and they are great for what they are intended for - someone who wants fuller sound for TV and music, but isn't going the lengths of figuring out room acoustics and a prime music listening spot.

I figured out why my mid was lacking. The wife must have unplugged a wire while cleaning. Sounds fine now. :paperbag:

Bose makes an ok product. But for the money, you can get a lot more. Bose owners like to boast to their friends that they have a Bose system. Too many people just do not know any better.

And the plugged in Bose brought alot more sound then this sub did imo. This sub box is huge also so I may just put it back in the box or use it or in the garage.

I just hooked up my Onkyo receiver to my Polk speakers in my garage. Was my system in my old house. The sound is great way overkill for the garage but better then sitting in the box.

My smaller Bose works so well for me now though. Looks better and easy to use for wife and babysitters.

Couldn't find the original thread so posting in here

Need a new subwoofer.   My Klipsch Kw-100 stopped after 4 years.  It technically still works but they want $200 to replace it.

I have to unplug and plug it in every 2 days.

Any and all recommendations.  Trying to keep it under $400

The correct answer is an SVS sub though.  Let me see which one I can recommend in your price range

I've got a pair of Bose 601 iii sitting in my basement, haven't hooked them up in 10 years or so

going for over $700 on eBay

think ill ill hook them up this weekend

My Hsu Research sub finally died.  I was thinking about having a funeral service.
If yours is like mine it has a cap that blows. They used some cheap ones. I replaced the blown cap(s) and all is right in the world again. Cost was less than $10.

Don't get the Polk, I think you will be disappointed if you do.  I had a buddy who had it and he upgraded a year after buying it to an SVS, said it was like night and day (actually started my love affair with SVS)

Agreed with Wilked here SVS or HSU will be a much better sub for the money.

Couple years ago I got a Revel B112 for about 50% off and you'd have to pry it from my cold dead hands.

My wife says well if you have it get a new one at least it will be smaller.

Me.. actually probably bigger

Her... how is that possible

welp the repair place can't seem to figure out my sub problem after 6 weeks, they were looking for a replacement model but can't seem to find anything from klipsch.

I think I'm going to wait another day or so then pull the trigger on the SVS

Edit:  Any difference ordering through amazon or svs directly?

Svs just arrived.

First off the thing is freaking huge.

just set it up with my Audyssey. So far, I can't tell yet only because I watched one movie for 10 minutes. Wasn't as much boom as expected.

that being said.I'll need to rearrange my basement. It sticks out :)

EExcited to give it a real test later
