Summerpalooza V -- Playoffs Over -- Eephus Is Now Two-Time Summerpalooza Champion (2 Viewers)

99 Luftballoons! 99 Luftballoons!

96 Tears! 96 Tears!

I moved on Thursday and then spent yesterday and today cleaning my old place, touching up paint, etc. so that I can put it on the market next week. For whatever reason I also decided that I would move all my own **** over to the new place other than the big stuff I needed movers for on Thursday. So the last week-ish has been unbelievably grueling. Luckily I had my Sonos Roam and my "favorite songs of all time" playlist going on shuffle. Today, as I was working on the floors - the last tidbit before I was done - the song "96 Tears" came on, followed immediately by "Tighten Up," and I decided that there is not a better one-two punch to make me feel happy when I'm feeling miserable. They are great to dance to while mopping hardwood.

Both could be in contention to make my "top 31" list. :)

'97 - Alkaline Trio

I thought it was a love song, it’s about a court-mandated time away from weed.

But we’ve got a good start to our D-line. 99, 97, 96.

I've got it now
Like a thorn in my side
The size of a Cadillac
Drive it through
Because backing up now would be next to impossible

I had it all
When I was with you I forgot about everything
18 months
I won't breathe for 18 months

I don't deserve this...
I don't deserve this...
I don't deserve this
No, I don't deserve this

I don't deserve this
No I don't deserve this
I don't deserve this
No I don't deserve this
No I don't deserve this

This, crazily enough, helped rockaction through a particularly bad break-up with the woman who was, for a time, going to be his spouse/wife/partner what have you. It was not to be, thankfully by his choice, and this song came along in the right year at the right time.

LIttle personal emo history for y'all.

Small numbers aren't hard. Admittedly it would be more difficult in an IDP league, but I feel like my achievement in listing a song for every D/ST player when we drafted ours is being unjustly overlooked.

You haven't done the this when you've added DST off the waiver wire

 I did consider that I "got lazy," but I've tried to make my connections for those interesting. Well, interesting to me.

The absolute worst part of the sport. Hate to see things like this happen.

I'm too old and experienced to really get upset about sports and games, but this actually is one of those instances where it has affected my mood. I'm sort of in a fugue. Ooooooof.

Well, I am going to cry 96 tears about Breece Hall. A prospect I was sold on, drafted by my favorite team, changing the culture of said team, and now a likely ACL injury. That just sucks.
That’s a bummer rock. I picked up Ken Walker in about every league I’m in as he was my favorite Prospect. Looking like a wise choice, now I’m just praying I don’t get hit with the injury bug.

It's very unfortunate. He was really starting to put on a show. He must be so disappointed and upset. I'm sure he will work hard to get healthy, and he can take the league by storm next year.

If we are talking about RBs we truly believed in, ETN is finally making me look smart. Wasn’t a direct path but it has me feeling my selection of him wasn’t too crazy. Still a little crazy though.
I drafted him in the late mid rounds in my money league, and I heard some people say reach! I was on Zoom, but I heard the heckles. Unfortunately, I dropped him after week 3, and one of those hecklers has him on their roster now. 😒 That's fantasy football for ya. He has looked great lately, and I wish I hadn't let him go.

Vermont trip was a success, aside from me losing my voice early Friday and still not having all the way back now. I alternated between making almost no sound at all, to sounding like Tom Waits.

That aside, Thursday
- Somehow arrived in Waterbury within 5 minutes of Tasker and his friend despite almost no co-ordination
- Quick bite to eat at Prohibition Pig (mushroom tacos were great)
- A few hours at Freak Folk Brewery
- Dinner at Hen of the Wood - I am not a foodie but it was great. Mushroom toast was the highlight. I split the steak with one of the other guys, the sides that came with it were incredible, the steak was very good. I don't like that it was pre sliced for me, I feel like if I'm spending a bunch on a steak, I want to see the marbling, make the cut myself but apparently according to people who watch food shows etc... this is a thing.
- Most went to bed early, I stayed up a bit with the Buffalo guys and watched the end of the TNF game.

Friday
- Full breakfast included at the hotel, it was good, I went veggie omelette. I was eating mostly vegetarian still but obviously not the whole trip.
- 12 PM reservation at Hill Farmstead Brewery, started losing my voice, drank a bunch of incredible beer and brought a bunch more home
- lunch at Parker Pies. Literally just in the back of the general store of a small four corners town, great pizza, more beer
- Stopped at The Alchemist for a quick beer on the way back, it was near closing time. Grabbed the requisite fresh Heady Topper and Focal Banger.
- Had a beer at the hotel pub - The Old Stage Coach Inn is where we stayed, the pub holds about 10 people, small and really cool, just wanted to have on here and was packed.
- Dinner at the Blackback Pub, service was slow and a bunch of beers had the kegs kicked but it was cool.
- Late night pool and a more livelier (college kids) atmosphere across the road at The Resevoir
- Back for a couple more beers I definitely didn't need with Tasker, I think I called it a night around 3 AM.

Saturday
- Full breakfast again, check out of the hotel.
- Stop at Lawson's Liquids for some afternoon pints - the weather was absolutely perfect both days, we were able to spend a lot of time outside which was probably a good thing given my lack of voice (I did test negative for covid but obviously I had/have something).
- Drove to Burlington Beer Co. with the intent of having dinner there but it was packed and had future reservations, so we couldn't get a seat (there were a ton of open tables, so maybe a staff issue). This was probably my least favourite beer of the trip, though still good.
- Ended up at Bluebird BBQ for dinner, shared the family platter (basically every meat and side). Wasn't my favourite, the ribs were really overcooked, sides kind of bland, since I don't eat meat that much I try to go for good stuff when I do and this was disappointing.
- Checked into the Airbnb, headed towards downtown
- Arrived at Foam Brewers around 6 or 630 I think, by this point everyone was fading, you could see a lot of yawns, it was pretty quiet and we all knew it.
- 8 PM or so, live music comes on at Foam and saves us/gives us all a second wind
- After a couple hours there, went to The Archives for some more beer and some old school video games (I'm awesome at Super Off Road still).
- Headed back to Airbnb to share some of the many beers we'd picked up over the weekend, stopped at the 7-eleven for some snacks, one guy grabbed a pack of Natty Light that was subsequently shotgunned in the Airbnb driveway, full on degenerate behaviour at this point.
- Stayed up again til 2 or 3 in the AM with some music going and a few more beers, people slowly trickled out until it was only me and Tasker again. Solved most of the worlds problems, don't remember any of the solutions.

Sunday
- McDonald's Breakfast and a painful drive home.

All in all 14/10, would do it again in an instant, was glad everyone got along since some had never met each other and I was the mutual link between everyone. Have so much great beer back here now, no interest in drinking for a few days but will have some good shares in the coming weeks. We drank too much but we started early every day and it was pretty spread out over a bunch of stops, so despite the overall volume, no one was ever really out of hand at all.

I need 15 points from my RB2 (now RB1 due to injuries) and my WR3 to win this week That would seem very doable if those two guys DID NOT play for the Chicago Bears.

Congrats on the win. To say that our team underperformed is an understatement - our high scorer for the week was the kicker we picked up in FCFS waivers. :lmao:

@Pip's Invitation , any further update on Cassidy kitty?
Thanks for asking.

Most likely we are going to do palliative care. He has been started on dexamethasone (a steroid, commonly used in cancer patients), Cerenia (for nausea) and Pepcid (for acid reflux). Given his age (12), his type of cancer (large-cell lymphoma, much harder to treat than small-cell lymphoma) and the mass that is there (a large one in his small intestine and some of the lymph nodes around it), and the data showing that cats in his situation rarely ever live past 1 year even if they do chemotherapy, we don't think we will do one of the conventional chemotherapy options. We would rather that he be as comfortable as possible for the time he has left with us. There is an agent called L-asparaginase that can kill lymphoma cells more efficiently than the conventional chemotherapy options, and is not that expensive, but resistance to it tends to develop quickly, so it offers temporary relief at best. We are weighing the risks and benefits of that and are waiting for some more feedback on it from the vet oncologist.

We are scheduled to be gone for about 10 days in mid-December (Cape Canaveral, Disney Cruise, Disney World). We frankly don't think he will survive if we leave him. He gets tremendous anxiety when we go away and hides from the pet sitter (which makes taking all his meds impossible). There's a good chance that in his weakened state, the stress of us being gone, whether he's at home with a pet sitter or boarded somewhere, proves too much for him to handle. We looked into the cancellation situations of all the stuff we have booked. Some of it we would lose our money regardless of when we cancel. Some of it will have the same outcome regardless of whether we cancel now or the day before. Of the things that we can get our money back from by canceling by a certain date, the earliest of those cancellation dates is Dec. 3. So, if he has passed away by the beginning of December, we will still go. If he is still here at the beginning of December, then we will cancel.

I feel like if you're willing to commit your team name to Kadarius Toney all season, you probably deserve to have him traded to the Chiefs.

:lmao: So true. I wonder what on earth that all means for both him and the team. You broke the news to me. I've been in and out of errands all day. Holy schmoke.

My dynasty team has Skyy Moore on it.

:crying:

Depends on whether his hamstrings function.

For this year, it can't hurt. It is not a good sign for Skyy but I am still very skeptical of Toney.
