Sunday Ticket '23: YouTube TV signs deal. Stand alone option available (1 Viewer)

I have been a DTV and NFL Sunday Ticket subscriber for 25+ years. Planning to stay with DTV for a number of reasons but definitely interested in the standalone NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube. Since I am not familiar with YouTube TV been looking around trying to understand how it will work. Now, with DTV we watched the 4 and 8 game mix channels to keep up with my fantasy players. Of course you were forced into whatever games they had picked for those channels. Also, could easily go back and forth to local games not on the Sunday Ticket channels. We watched anywhere from 2-4 TVs at once and sometimes I go sit outside with my dog and watch one of the games on my iPad.

With YouTube, what I am seeing is that you can only view 2 streams of Sunday Ticket at once. Is that other's understanding? They do have a four game multi-view but not an eight game version. I do like being able to choose which 4 games to look at on multi-view although I will miss not being able to see more at once (six usually seemed to be the sweet spot for the early Sunday games).

The two stream limit sucks. We can make it work (our in laws live with us now) but definitely losing functionality in this change.
I haven't heard anything about 2 streams for Sunday Ticket. Their service allows up to 3 streams at once. That was a one of the reasons I picked YTTV over Hulu. I would be surprised if they limited the ST viewing to just 2 streams.
You can see it on YouTube's website (see below):

"When you purchase NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube or YouTube TV, you’ll be able to watch games on up to two screens at once.
YouTube and YouTube TV subscribers will also be able to watch up to four live streams simultaneously on one single screen with our multiview feature."
do we think this means individual game on screen 1, individual game on screen 2 plus multiview on screen 3?
No. Single game on screen 1, multi view on screen 2.

I am not sure. Since multi-view is part of the Sunday Ticket I doubt they allow it to be in addition to two other streams but I really have no idea. Will see if I can find more info on it.

449 for non subscribers? LOL no thanks.

I'm curious if the old cancel Direct TV trick will work with Youtube - I have my doubts
That's a lot of $$$ if that's true. i thought about jumping in and subscribing, I like YouTube and spend a lot of time there.

You buy 2 tickets for 1 Home game and you almost spend as much as you do on the entire season for NFL access

But you're right Bell, lot of money and definitely makes me step back a minute.
We're going to get it but before the June date to save $100 ($349 total). Still waiting to see if there is any info about it being done in installments like DTV did it.
Save $100 for early sign up, good info. $350, you would piss thru it 1 time at most NFL Stadiums
Still not a terrible deal all said and done. Prefer my food my liquor, my beers
Cheers!

So you have to be a YTTV subscriber to get the multiview? If I pay for stand-alone Sunday Ticket I only get two single screens?

I believe anyone gets it that gets Sunday Ticket (so even standalone) but I honestly am not sure. I wondered the same as you originally. I may try to post to their support to try and get some clarifications.

Here is YouTube's response to whether someone getting the standalone Ticket only would have access to multiview functionality
"yes!! we'll be launching multiview for NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube TV & YouTube Primetime Channels"

I currently have a nine TV setup for watching NFL games on Sunday.
9 TV NFLST setup pic link

I can watch up to eight games at once plus the RedZone Channel.

I was quite concerned about the change as I wondered if I would be able to replicate it at a reasonable cost.

The array is six 24" monitors, two 32" TVs plus my primary 55" TV in the center.
I had five receivers from DirecTV in addition to two network feeds via OTA and/or Cable plus the Redzone Channel via Cable. I would put the RedZone on the main TV with audio and have the two network games on the 32" TVs, then feed the remaining six monitors with the five Directv receivers and one NFLST stream via a PS4.

It looks like I will have to purchase three NFLST subscriptions from Youtube plus whatever device I'll need to plug into the monitors to replicate that setup. At $349 that's $1047 plus 6 devices.

Six streaming devices like Roku $30, Chromecast $30 or FireTV $30 so an additional $180 one-time charge. It's going to cost me as much as $1227 this year to replicate what I had then $1047 in future years.

I used to have DirecTV as my main TV provider but as they lost customers they raised prices for the remaining customers. Eventually, it became cheaper to switch to cable as my main provider and suspend DirecTV for 6 months a year. I basically had DirecTV just to get NFL Sunday Ticket. I had five DirecTV receivers, the four extra receivers costing $7 a month, or $28 a month for six months($140.) Then NFL Sunday Ticket is $349 so now $489 plus the cost of the DirecTV service which although advertised at $72mo. was actually $110mo. after adding in HD, DVR charges, a protection plan plus taxes. So $660 + $489=$1149.

So it looks like I'll be paying about $100 less a year going forward but shell out $180 to set it up and lose all the value of the DirecTV equipment I had to purchase years ago. Not ideal but not as bad as I feared.

Will you be keeping cable TV? One benefit of switching is you can cut the cord on cable TV and use YouTube TV year round as you TV service. If your willing to do that you should see a further discount.

Doesn't sound like a good deal, even with $100 off. Plus, you won't be able to switch from game to game like you did before. It is my understanding, because of streaming, you would have to exit and re-enter to go to another game. Am I missing something? Sorry, didn't read this entire thread.

No. You change the channel like on any other provider

I don't have youtube TV so I have no idea about this but does that mean it's not like Netflix or Amazon Prime where you have to go back to a main board or search menu to look for something else to watch? It's typically not as easy as just punching in channel 712 on your remote and going right to the game or hitting the previous channel button to toggle between two games.

Is youtube different than that?

It's like a mix of both. They have a grid-type station guide like cable and DTV do, but no "hit this number for this channel" thing. You can customize the guide to show favorites, most watched, etc. It's not quite as easy as "punch in channel 712" but it's easier / more intuitive than Netflix.

I really like it. its month to month and i think the first 30 days are free? try it out. its worth your time

I guess I could Google, but it sounds like there's some folks that have already done a good bit of research here.... is there a way to get JUST RedZone channel? I don't care about the ability to flip around from game to game. Just want RZC.

I’m seeing a separate “Sports Plus” package for $10.99/mo that includes NFL RedZone. Mileage will vary on how appealing the other channels in that package are but it’s an option.

This.

I'm gonna try the sports package this year and see if I like any of the other channels. If so, then I'll do it again next year (getting it for Sep-Dec only). If no, then I likely will add RZ only to the ST purchase.

That's what I bought last year. Was great. Just remember to turn it off after season. They will keep charging 10.99 a month after nfl stops

I think I'm about to cancel DirecTV and switch to YouTube TV. I always said the only reason I had DirecTV is Sunday Ticket - if it's not there, there's minimal reason to keep it. Plus, somehow my $60 package on DirecTV costs me $90+ by the time you add in all the box rentals and stupid other fees.

Missed it but looks like they did make a carve out for Sports Bars so I will continue to get a meal as the price of seeing my team.

I've long said the same thing. This past weekend went to cancel Directv and told myself before I made the call that no way would they talk me out of it...they talked me out of it.

My only regret is not making the call to cancel sooner. Amazingly my bill dropped a little over $130 a month is now less then 20% of what it used to be with no loss of service or channels. Compared directly to Youtube tv I'm saving roughly $55 per month.

So for me way I calculated it was that I was coming out $560 ahead for the year on the year if I kept DirecTV and paid the extra $100 for the Sunday ticket as a stand alone item on youtube vs switching over to youtubetv.

12 months from now I'll have to reassess.

What sucks is if you order it as a stand alone option (I don't want the youtube subscription each month) you can't record the games...that's a real bummer. Plus even with this $100 off if you order today, that's still $350 more than what i paid for it with DirecTV (NOTHING, ever, always got it free)

You don’t want the YouTube subscription each month, which you can cancel at any time, but you want the yearly subscription to directv?

Yep, because I have 9 receivers and with youtube you can't stream 9 different things if you so chose, and our setup includes rental properties and it just wouldn't work.

Ok, fair enough.

You can use the same directv subscription at multiple properties?

After 20yrs with DTV (only due to the Sunday ticket) I made the switch to YoutubeTV this week. So far so good and apples to apples I’m saving some money. Bought the Sunday Ticket with YouTube at the discounted price yesterday.

Some of you likely know a lot more than I do about this service but let me share what my son did for us.
If it were up to me, we'd likely never get this since I only had DTV or the Ticket maybe once or twice in my life and that was like 20 years ago.

Per my 23 yr old son...he bought the package without Youtube TV so our account is allowed to be logged into and streamed onto 2 different devices at the same time, one at his house and one at mine, we're about 250 miles apart from each other.

I think it was $400 and we split it so I am assuming that anyone can do the same thing.
We also received $100 off so I am left to assume that this feature or package where you are able to log in on 2 different devices or homes simultaneously is actually $500.
Aren't they getting ready to jump the price in another week?

Says "unlimited simultaneous streams" but i think there still might be a catch I'm missing, maybe just from your home?

The Ticket as a standalone is like $450 now.

Too expensive. I’ll wait a year or two when they start offering deals like Direct TV. I also hear you can’t bounce game to game easily, I don’t think.

YouTube announced on Thursday that, in response to customer feedback, Sunday Ticket includes “unlimited simultaneous streams” for home viewing. Also, for streaming on the go, users will have access to two additional streams.

so within your home network, unlimited number of devices. plus 2 additional streams outside of your home network. In your case MoP how you can dictate which of your two homes is the "home network" remains to be determined, I'd assume it follows the billing address and the other can have the two additional streams.

You can. Change the channel like any other provider. And sadly I don't think the deal is ever getting any better

My stepson said because of streaming it isn’t easy going from game to game. Do you have YouTube TV?

I have YouTube TV. You can’t jump back and forth between two channels. But if you are on one game you can click back out to the main guide and scroll down to the game you want. I hear at one point YouTube TV was going to add the jump back and forth feature but I haven’t seen it yet.

So it’s true, it is a hassle. Like switching from Prime to Netflix.

Yes or $350 if you signed up by yesterday.

Did you have a specific reason for quoting my post to say the price? Not trying to be snarky, just asking. Feel like I’m missing something

Was just trying to help out. I maybe misunderstood your post. I thought you thought it was only going to cost you $100 for the Ticket and I wanted you to know it will be alot more.

No, not close to that. When watching something, you just click the down arrow and it shows all the channels you recently were on, as well as the ability to scroll to any other channel. Boone is just saying that there is no direct “jump back” button like there are on most cable systems. It’s way closer to cable than switching from Netflix to prime.

It is probably going to stop working for whichever one of you is not considered the home network after a certain period of time, unless the other logs in from the home network periodically.
