I need to make the call soon. From what I understand it will auto renew July 1st. Do I need to call to cancel before that date or will I be able to deal with them later as well?
You can cancel up until the season starts.

Thanks,Not sure what I will do this year. The Eagles play 5 games on national TV. 1 game I will be in Vegas easy to find a place to watch it. 1 game I will be traveling. That leaves 9 games with some weeks maybe I get lucky and get the game on local stations.

I've had DTV and the ticket for 3 years now, just followed the recommendations on this thread:

1. Give phone number

2. Say cancel account-was asked if I wanted to change my service or really cancel account. I said cancel account.

3. Tell retention person "I'm cutting back on expenses, $300 is way too much"

They quoted my early bird rate as $45 per month for 6 months = $270 and offered $20 discount per month for those 6 months which by my math means that I got it for $150. I'm very happy with that

Last year, I threatened to cancel and got it for free with very little negotiation. I somehow doubt they will do that again..

Just called and they said I could have either the $20 off for 6 months or the $10 off for 24 months. Took the $20 and plan to call back later about the other.
I called back last night and they said I could have $10 off for 12 months or $10 off for 24 months if I signed up for the automatic payment. So I signed up for autopay. That brings my savings to $30/month for the next 6 months, which will offset the cost of ST nicely. After that, I'll still have the $10 off for the next 18 months.

Did you have any other monthly credits from prior discounts still active when you got this? I am getting 10 a month for 12 months (still a few to go) from last years deal on superfan. So all I could get was a 1 time customer satisfaction discount of 100.00.

Just got off the phone with the same deal! I was willing to give it up this year but for 50% off the price...nice!

best I could do was free dvr for a year ($84) it was that or $10 per month for 6 months. They were quoting my prior discounts. I said then go ahead and cancel. They eventually gave me 16 off for 6 months so I wound up at $96 off. I called 3 times this year and they are definitelybeeing more difficult than in the past.

No go for me. He said I was maxed out on promos. The max is 400. I got in on the free hd deal so that might be why. I will have to try again.

This is what they just said to me. First she offered me door #1: the $10 off for 6 months. I said no to that so she then said how about $20 off for 6 months. I took door #2 because door 3 may have been 'ok I guess we will cancel it'....didn't want that. So instead of the $399, I am paying $179.

Can someone choose door # 3 so I can see if I missed out on more savings?

Great information. Any of you guys under a contract agreement with them when you tried that? I picked up an upgraded DVR last years so I am still on the hook for another year.

I'm not but this was the first time I tried the negotiating of a lower price. I got tired of paying the max. as a loyal customer.

Just the red zone channel is enough. its leaps and bounds better than ST. If you can get nfl network then you can have red zone. I pay 5 bucks a month extra from my cable company to have nfl network wich includes RZC. Best nfl watching experience ever.

Going to try this Sept. (Contract up March 2011)Going to tell them I'm going to switch to Dish & there RZ channel (given it's cheaper), which I will if they do cancel. I'm not going to be out anything considering the price difference between Sunday Ticket and Red Zone plus the difference between what I pay now for Directv and what I'll pay per month as a new Dish customer)

Hopeful that Directv will offer just a stand alone Redzone channel (which I'm fine with).

I'm not saying do it, but I hear if you borrow or trade boxes with someone who has NFLST, you'll have NFLST and the other person's programming. Fo' free.

It's also a good way to avoid blackouts if your trading partner is outside of your favorite team's radius.

Or so I hear.

I like the Red Zone channel and I usually have it going on one of the TVs but I wouldn't say it's better than ST. When I am watching a game I don't want it being switched on me.

I like Sunday Ticket so I can watch my Broncos play from here in South Carolina.Out of 16 Bronco games, Denver's got one Monday night game, I will be at one game in Denver, and I will be at at least one other NFL game this year. Considering Denver has 10 4:00 games, odds are good that 3 or more will be broadcast here anyways. So, there's six games minimum that I won't need Sunday Ticket for. @ $300 for the season, that works out to me paying minimum $30/game to sit on my couch. I'm quite sure I can go to my local sports bar and spend less than $30.If they would knock out $30 for 6 months, that makes it $12/game. That sounds much more attractive.
I did my negotiation call today. When the robot asked what I wanted, I said "cancel service." I told the customer service rep that I no longer wanted Sunday ticket because it's too expensive and told her I paid $150 last year, and I could barely manage that. She offered me $20 off for the next 6 months - I told her that was close to what I could do - it's not much, but another $30 would make it the same as last year and that would be something I could justify. Times are tight with the economy and all. She came back with an additional $50 off for the first month, and I said DEAL! So - I'm in for $314-$20*6-$50 = $144. Easy negotiating. Maybe I got lucky, maybe I'm just such a great and fantastic customer, maybe I'm a rube who is getting ripped off on some other package and they are desperate to keep my money coming. Either way, I'm back in.

Received my bill today that had the 1st ST installment charge of $49.99. Called this evening followed the protocol outlined in this thread, told the lady I felt like the price just kept going up, that I wasn't sure what I paid last year, but seemed like it's getting too expensive.

She offered me a $20 credit for the next 6 months, which I accepted. $180 for the season seems very reasonable to me (although I'm not sure why I didn't start with the early bird rate as others above have mentioned). 7 1/2 minutes to save $120 is well worth my time.

This is definitely a phone call worth making...in the end I am actually getting paid to watch football in HD this year.

Me: "Cancel. $350 too much, economy and all, blah blah"

DTV: $20 off for 6 mos (equal to $180 for year). Me: "hmmm, I don't know. Kind of a luxury. My budget was really around the $100 range. So I'll have to cancel."

DTV: Let me see what I can do. What is your monthly bill? Me: "$90"

DTV: Okay, I can give you this additional program, that credit, yada yada. Total bill now equals $110 per month = $20 x 6 mos. = $120

DTV: Whoops. I misspoke. System won't let me do that.

Me: "Fine. I will cancel then."

DTV: Wait. Let me try this.

DTV: Okay, what I can do is give you a credit for August's bill and then charge you $110 per month.

Me: "How much is the credit for August then?" DTV: $110

Me: "So, the credit is $110 for August, then 5 months at $110, then it reverts back to $90 per month?"

DTV: Yes

Me: "Okay. I'll do that."

Me: "What is your employee badge number?" <gives name and badge>

Net profit for season: (5 x $20) - $110 = $10

This is not a joke. Obviously you can't count employees misspeaking but even without that there appears to be ways to get down from $180 to $120 with a little more persistence.

Just called and got $20 off for 6 months plus 6 months Showtime, which is great and all, BUT....

I asked the rep (guy from South Texas...maybe Julian was his name?) about the stand-alone Red Zone Channel and his response was, "It's already here." I told him not the one that is part of the Ticket, but just the Red Zone Channel and he said, "It's already here as a retention offer."

I took the deal as presented, but thought I'd throw this out there for others who may be interested!

What about those of us who have never had the ticket before? Are we stuck paying full price?
if you have DTV and do not have some sort of discount on your bill you're not doing it right. If you are not under contract especially....call in, say cancel service, tell said person you were going to add the sunday ticket but your wife freaked, now wife wants to switch back to cable because the DTV is way to much and see where it leads. If they call your bluff you say let me talk to the wife again, rinse and repeat the next day with a different rep.

I've been when them for over a year (on a 2 year contract) and just added their whole-home DVR thing which started the 2 year clock over. So I can't realistically threaten to cancel. Bu tI do have a few discounts on there already for non ST related stuff.

this does make it easy for them to shoot you down, a call can never hurt though. you are doing it right though with at least some credit on your bill.

got some BS letter in the mail saying I am automatically being charged 9.99 for the watching on-line and iphone app.

Gonna call and ##### tonight and get a discount, I hate that automatic sign up for extra BS they pull

received letter from DirecTV today. With the addition of the NFL ST To-Go. What is this ? so gave them a call: Just got off the phone with a Professional and polite rep: Bottom line - ST - $299. less a $20.00 credit for 6 months = $179.00 for the NFL ST ( no T-Go) includes Red Zone.

This is acceptable.

GO RAMS

PSL Tickets not for sale -- Yet

On the phone right now with them. Got the ticket down to $179 plus they threw in the ToGo for FREE. Hell ####### yeah! :(

I can live with that.

Combined this with the HD billing for 24 months at $10/mo. credit. Saving $420 today at their retail prices. Sweet.

I was seriously cancelling though if they didn't get the ST down from $300. That's way too steep for me.

last year I struck out after about 5 calls they gave me some minor bucks off cause I hadn't had the Sunday Ticket for 4 years (worked Sundays then) even though I pay them over $1500 a year in service. They promised to do me better then in 2010. Called last week and got the $179 deal after saying my wife remembered their promise from last year and was going to cancel if they didn't make good this season....

For those who are still benefiting from deals last year, it is best to wait until they expire. The deals I was offered last year improved after my previous year benefits expired.

What about those of us who have never had the ticket before? Are we stuck paying full price?
Last year was my first year with Directv. I tried several times to get the discount but NOBODY would budge. I ended up paying full price :thumbup:This year however, I was able to get $180 off from the total cost of the ticket :popcorn:So yes, it seems like the new people won't get the discount but they give incentives for existing customers to keep the ticket ...

Cool - Free Sunday Ticket for this guy! $180 Instant Credit. $20 a Month off for 6 months. Had them cancel the "to go".

Just called to cancel subscription...

Great person on the phone.....

$20 discount for 6 months and no $9.99/month to have it on my phone.... :)

I called to cancel and got the $20 off for 6 months and still turned it down. I've had it for 15 years when it was still $99 and just decided to take a year off. I can listen to the Dolphins on Sirius and I'll catch whatever games I get on TV here in NY. I'll post here if they come back with an offer I can't refuse.

Made the annual call today. Still had 5 months remaining on my contract, subscribed to Sunday Ticket and DirecTV since 1999, 4 receivers, call every year for discounts, etc.

Took a while, several placements on hold - both of us were very polite. Summary:

$20 credit / month for 6 months ($120 savings)

$10 credit / month for 24 months - HD for life promo ($240 savings)

2 new HD HDVRs to replace two old SD DVRs - ($274.38 savings) price was $52.68 vs. $327.06 - Yes, this locks me in for 2 more years, but I was probably going to do it anyway - at least it starts the clock ticking now (this was the hardest discount to negotiate)

Free NFL To-Go ($50 savings)

$684.38 total savings. Will call again this time next year to go through the process again.

Be patient and polite. Call back if needed - just tell them you need to think things over and to note your account. That way you don't have to start from scratch each time you call.

Good luck to everyone else.

I have the 2yr HD Discount saving $10 a month for 24 months...

Instant Credit of $150

6 Payments of $49.99

TICKET HALF OFF...

I had to call twice... First time with the normal programming people....

2nd I had to pretend I wanted to cancel....

She did says something about the REDZONE is available as a stand alone this year for FREE (Would of been for me anyway)...Some of you might want to look in to that... I wanted the ticket this year because I have never had it before...

Thanks for the tips guys...

I've had DTV and the ticket for 3 years now, just followed the recommendations on this thread:1. Give phone number2. Say cancel account-was asked if I wanted to change my service or really cancel account. I said cancel account.3. Tell retention person "I'm cutting back on expenses, $300 is way too much"They quoted my early bird rate as $45 per month for 6 months = $270 and offered $20 discount per month for those 6 months which by my math means that I got it for $150. I'm very happy with that

I did it!!!!Got ST and the on the go deal for $150What seemed to turn the tables in my favor was that I wasn't under a contract and I inquired about the red zone channel. Asked them if they had it as a stand alone knowing they did not. Mentioned that Dish and Comcast did. She offered $180 I asked again if she though she might get the red zone channel by the start of the season. She put me on hold and came back with the $150 for everything deal.I happy to have it for another year.

One of the best annual threads in here! Had a decent go of it with DTV this year. I have been a customer for 9 years and upgraded to DVR this year. Have gotten discounts for about 5 years running. Rejected the opening offer of $10 x 6months tonight like Yao Ming swatting a Spud Webb jumper. My rep had to go back to the drawing board and I guess get manager approval because he put me on hold for a while. I gave him the woe ways me speech, kids can't eat, wife is going to leave me if you don't (I'm going to really miss her one year if it comes to that  ), etc. He came back with the solid $20 x 6 months like everyone else.

I then pointed out to him that I saw they were charging this year for the SF on the go for Iphone and PC. I said that I used that sometimes at games last year and really enjoyed that. He was a little annoyed that I asked for it so he put me on hold and found out he could also give me that as well. That was another $50 saved. Also got 3 months upgrade to Ultimate package for nothing as a loyal customer award. SOLD!

I took it and was happy. Had to say cancel to get to someone in the beginning but if you are nice and sound legit, you will get a good deal. Best of luck to everyone else!

im actually glad i dont have DTV no more

let the next man pay the big $$$, i will just watch his free internet "stream"

Looks like the internet version is extra this season. Yay that HD is free but the streaming version that was free last season isnt anymore. I guess they need to assrape you one way or the other.

Just made the call.

Cancelled to-go

Got 20 bucks a month off

and 6 months of free starz. The free showtime/movie channel for a year was about to expire, tried for Skinnemax but didnt get it

Got my bill in the mail about a week ago and had today off work so I made the call today. I've only been a customer for a year (got the Ticket for free last year as part of some promotional offer), so I was happy to get this deal:

- To-Go cancelled

- Six payments of $29.99 (Savings of $120)

got $20/off per payment, savings of $120, $179.94 overall, without much pushing at all

Not too shabby, if I pushed, may have squeezed out more, but I'm not greedy I guess

What pushing did you do? Did you threaten to cancel? Thanks for the heads up!
