When I said "since the merger", I meant players whose careers began after the merger. Banaszak would count otherwise.Pete Banaszak
Highest rank was 14th his 7th year.Anthony Johnson?
Correct. He was the 4th of the original ones.Hearst I missed because of a silly error. White I missed because he missed a full season early in his career. Another RB did that, and has yet to be named (he's the one that ranked in the top 10 in one of his first five seasons playing, but not in the top ten in any of the first five years after he was drafted). Another RB I missed earlier because he ranked 10th and not 1st-9th later in his career. So we've still got two more to go.Hearst, White, Barber, Garner, Jones, Smith, _____, _____robert smith
Nope. Nothing to do with age, here. (And I'm using first five seasons after drafted, so yes, Smith does not qualify).antowain smithTop 10 in his 5th season, but he was 25 in 97 so...jus guessin
Let's try Kevin Mack.Bo JacksonHershall Walker
Highest rank was 26th.Tim Biakabatuka (sp?)
Bo's highest rank was 21st.It's easy to forget this because of The Trade, but Walker is one of three RBs to rank in the top 5 each of his first three seasons in the league. Barry Sanders and Earl Campbell are the other two.Bo JacksonHershall Walker
Mack is correct. He ranked 10th his seventh season, the highest ranking of his career. One more to go, and this one is definitely the hardest.Let's try Kevin Mack.
Career started before 1970.Essex Johnson?
Highest rank was 12th his sixth season.Jim Otis?
Highest rank was 24th in his 8th season.Roosevelt Leaks - in 1982 due to the strike-shortened season?
Highest rank was 19th in his 7th season.Or Don Calhoun?
Not having looked at the answers... sorry Chase if you have responded to some already...I have a hard time figuring who I need to cut from:Tiki Barber;James Brooks;Earnest Byner;Charles Garner;Garrison Hearst;Thomas Jones;Duce StaleyName the only four RBs since the merger to not rank in the top 10 fantasy RBs in any of their first five seasons, but would rank in the top 10 in at least one season in their career.
Barber, Garner, Hearst and Jones are correct. Staley, Brooks and Byner are not. Since the OP, four more RBs were discovered. Charles White, Kevin Mack and Robert Smith are three others. Yes. I've stated that the player in question missed full seasons early in his career. He did not rank in the top 10 in any of the first five seasons after he was drafted, but he did finish in the top 10 in the fourth season when he actually was on the field.Yeah, we're looking for a guy who's first Top 10 finish was in his 6th year or later.
