ANYONE who thinks the call on Locklear was bogus needs to go back and watch that play again.

Haggans got around him and Locklear used his right arm to drag him.  He didn't have position and was beaten around the end.  It was a huge call, but if anyone can watch that play again and NOT see holding, they're blind.
The first one, yes it was the correct call. The second one on the pass to Stevens, absolutely horrible call. Madden even commented he couldn't see where there was holding.
And of course,if John Madden says it didn't happen,it didn't,because he's never wrong.
 Did you see holding on that play? I didn't and it seems a lot of other non-partisan people watching the game didn't either.

Just watched that PI call several times. I think it's a bad call. Jackson extends his arm, yes, but I don't see him pushing off. There was barely any contact between his hand and the defender. The defender's arms first get tangled with Jackson's and then Jackson is trying to free himself of the defender.

I've seen plenty worse, even in front of the official, that isn't called OPI. You have to let them play that out, the defender made contact earlier in the route too. Also, the ref didn't reach for the flag until after Jackson caught the TD.

But, at the most, it cost Seattle 4 points. The one that stands out is the holding call and subsequent blocking call on Hasselbeck which potentially resulted in a 14 point swing.
Again, it doesn't matter if he pushed off very much. When the WR extends his arm like that against the DB, it's almost always called. All he had to do was NOT extend his arm and it's a TD.The tackling penalty on Hasselbeck wasn't a good call, but that was the drive where the Steelers burned them on the trick play. I don't know that an extra 15 yards gave them that play.

It is called watching the play and then watching the replay. If I didn't see it, the commentators didn't see it, many other unbiased people didn't see it, then it seems like it probably wasn't the correct call.

As for the Big Ben TD call - I don't understand how it could be overturned. IMO the ball barely cracked the plane and was a TD anyway. But even if it wasn't, there definitely wasn't any conclusive evidence to suggest that.

This is simply absurd. What then was the point of Jackson EXTENDING HIS ARM TOWARDS THE DEFENDER?

- I maintain that SA will have a big day and that FWP will be COMPLETELY ineffective all day....which will be PIT's undoing.

I agree that if he doesn't extent his arm, the ref probably doesn't call it. But that doesn't mean the extension was wrong or resulting in a push-off. The intial contact was made by the defender, and I didn't see the arm extension as a pushoff at all...it was just a measure to get his arms free.

There'll be another incorrectly called 15 in this game.
Yep, Hass for blocking below the waist...............on a freaking tacle. HOW BAD IS THAT?
I think it was called because he took out both Taylor AND a blocker. Not sure that the ref who saw it realized he also made the tackle.

Gotta love Steeler fan trying to justify what was a huge screwing of the Seahawks by the officials. I'm a fan of neither team but this one has me wondering why I even bother watching NFL football.

It's not absurd. He was extending it to free himself of contact initiated by the defender. Why does an arm extension automatically mean a player is trying to push off? A player can extend his arm at several points and in several directions; it's not always a push off.

Agree. Feel like we are watching wrestling where the outcomes have already been decided to maximize the drama.

I'm just disappointed that the refs didn't let the players settle it on the field.

In particular, the holding call that negated the Stevens catch to the 1. Take that away, and it's likely 17-14 Seattle in the fourth quarter and we're looking at an all-time great game.

Instead, a questionable holding call on a play where one and maybe two Steelers appeared to be offside (including the one who was then held) turns the whole thing into a snoozefest.

Way to go, refs! You're the reason we all tune in to watch. That was a thrilling flag you threw to take away DJax's TD, and it was so exciting to see you really take over the game in the fourth quarter.

And then to follow that up with a 15-yard penalty on a guy for tackling and it really pissed me off.

He was already open when he came ack to the defender and pushed off of him. Why he did it is beyond me, but he still did it. It was foolish IMO. He would have scored easily w/o doing it. I do feel as though the Steelers caught a break on that play. They did not catch a break form the Refs though. Jackson pushing off when he did not need to right in front of the Ref was the break.

Or the NBA...

This whining about officiating is 100% ridiculous.

HOW can anyone say the PI call was poor when he blatantly extended his arm right in front of the ref to push off? That's called EVERY time when the receiver completely extends his arm like that, and I'd feel the same way if it were Hines Ward doing it.
No. That type of pass interence is so rarely called. That's why there is an uproar over it. The halftime people even replayed it and discussed it.
So is the Locklear holding call, when Haggans was taken down from the side. It was a huge call, I agree.
No. That was a solid block. At first, it appeared that Haggans would get the edge on Locklear, but the block was made. The official was unable to recognize that a tackle could made the play without holding.
And I'm sorry, but the ball very easily could've broken the plane on Ben's TD run. Not the entire ball, but the corner of it that was tucked in by his elbow. If it wouldn't have been called a TD, that call would've stood, too.
I've been over this. The official runs up to the ball ready to mark it 4 to 6 inches short. Once he sees Roethlisberger laying across the endzone, he decides to signal a TD. As you state above, his original call of no TD would have stood as well.
I love how no one cares that Hasselbeck threw a very costly INT or they gave up a 75 yard TD run or they gave up a 40+ yard trick play TD or they scored only 10 points or the Steelers held Seattle to 33% 3rd down conversions or Josh Brown missed 2 field goals or...
Remember that the INT was after the phantom holding call. The play where the INT occured would not have been called. The Parker TD was an excellent play by the Steelers....that's one for them.

The trick play TD came after the phantom hold and the illegal tackle by Hasselbeck. We have no idea if Pittsburgh would have tried that play (or even been in position to do so). Even so, it was perfectly executed....that's two for them.

33% isn't too bad against a very good defense. Also, consider that there were a few times where Seattle converted but a penalty brought the play back.

I don't knock missed FGs when they are 50+ yarders.

How many holding calls on Pittsburgh today?

0
I've heard that an official can call holding on every play....if he "sees" it.
3 penalties on Pittsburgh tonight: 2 false starts in the first 4 snaps, an offensive PI on a 5 yard screen pass, and that's it.
How often does a game take place where a defense is not called for a penalty all game long?

Congrats to Pittsburgh and their fans.
Hey Shick!,Were you able to apply KY before kickoff?
Not necessary. I'm not going to whine. My team didn't make plays when they had opportunities.
You know....bottling up frustration can be hazardous for you and others around you. I fear a rash of bannings tonight.

-Josh Brown missed 2 FG's (there own fault)

-Willie Parker has a 75 yard TD (there own fault)

-All the Stevens drops (there own fault)

-Sack of Hassleback when in TD range (there own fault)

-Hassleback INT near endzone (there own fault)

-Unable to take the Roethlisberger INT the full 100 yards (there own fault)

-Randle El to Hines Ward (there own fault)

-Townsend sack to end drive (there own fault)

-Not stopping Randle El and Big Ben for the 1st downs at the end (there own fault)

-Bad clock management in the 1st half and at the end of the game (there own fault)

The Seahawks didn't deserve to win this game. Maybe the Steelers didn't but the Seahawks didn't either.

It's so much easier to just blame the refs.
Sorry bro... you are so in the minority... look on all message boards from all neutral fans... Seattle got jobbed on key plays. Period.
Instead of saying that, what that I said do you disagree with?
The PI call. Just AWFUL. There was as much contact the other way. The little bit of contact didn't affect the play at all. And the ref clearly got talked into the call by the DB. Watch the replay from the long angle...The holding call was a complete phantom.

That was NOT a TD. The ball was short. Period.

The delay of game screwup. No way they got that TO in time.

Face it. You won't find ANYONE except a Steelers fan who thinks this was legit.
Well, people will have their opinions, and that's OK.I suggest you watch that PI call again... when the WR extends his arm, it's called 9 times out of 10 whether it affects the play or not. I agree that Jackson would've scored otherwise if he didn't push off.
Lame brain... rewind your TIVO... find the PUSH part of that.. he didn't PUSH. Period.
:lmao: Funny, but the guys on the NFL network just said he did.
Color me shocked that the NFL Network isn't ripping on NFL officials. :loco:

Seahawks badly outplayed Steelers for 3 quarters. BADLY. Refs were absolutely horrible. Some of these calls will be forgotten, but they were huge. The pushoff in the endzone is what T.O. and Randy Moss do on every play. Total BS. 7-0. The holding call turned a 25 yard pass down to the 20 into 2nd and 20 - just a brutal holding call at that point. The announcers were saying the same thing at halftime. "That was a touchdown". "That was not holding". Total BS. How many punt returns did the Seahawks have called back in the 1st half? Late flag every time.

That being said, they could have won the game anyway. Jeremy Stevens was pathetic, even bobbled the wide open TD. If he could have held on to those 3 or 4 perfect passes thrown by Matt the 'Hawks win, period. And I'm not a Seattle fan, just calling it like it is. Steelers hung in there, and to their credit made the 2 huge plays, and their playmakers got them key first downs late. But for 3 quarters, the Seahawk gameplan was so much better than the Steelers it wasn't funny. I know, that's why they play 4 quarters. But no one will ever convince me that the refs didn't affect the outcome of this game in a big, big way.

Seattle hasn't done shat in this game. Quit all the crying.
:goodposting: Steelers D played well. Steelers O played well enough. Seattle didn't do much.

The only REALLY bad call was the personal foul on Hass on his tackle...

Off the top of my head - Haggans offsides.

Honestly I think a few Steelers lined up offsides a few times, Hampton imparticualr. He lines up with that wierd stagger though, so it is tough to tell at times. Normally the refs will tell them inbetween plays that they need to back up before just throwing a flag in such cases. I don't recall Steelers jumping early though.

there were 3 bad calls but that didn't make the game like people are maknig it out to be..The Steelers were great on DEF and decent enough no OFFENSE to win liek you said...Seattle didn't deserve to win anymore then Pittsburgh though..They didn't make enough plays and that was mostly cause of the Steelers DEF coming up with big stops and Seattles own mistakes

Are you serious? Steelers defenders get a warning before the flag comes while Jackson gets jammed after minor contact by both players. If this seems OK to you, then you are a Steelers fan.

And Haggans jumped early before Locklear "held" him.

You have to be kidding me. When did I ever say this was an exclusive event to Steeler players? Have you ever played football. This is just a common practice I have encountered in 10 years of competing and 2 years of cooching the game. It works both ways. Usually the refs will just give a courtesy to the guys saying he you need to back it up a bit you're close to the NZ. It is the same with team sideline infractions.

They did score two touchdowns that were incorrectly called back (and a third pass to Stevens at the two that was called back on a phantom hold). Eighteen points difference (21 TDs - 3 scored on FG) in the offensive output I put squarely on the refs.BTW: I was rooting for the Steelers, had money on the Steelers and no affinity for the 'Hawks or conspiracy theories. But, Seattle played well enough to beat Pittsburgh. What they didn't do was play well enough to beat the Steelers + Zebras. Like this whole season, it was pathetic and predominantly one-sided officiating.

I have this vision of ! remaining calm and restoring order over here, but at the same time, going absolutely postal on another football forum.

I hate this loss. I hated some of the calls on the field, but Seattle was beat by three plays by the Steelers Offense. The pass to Hines Ward that was put in by Big Ben, the FWP big bust and run, and the Reverse pass.

Everything else can be disputed or talked about...."Seahawks were robbed" and all that, but those plays all added up to Steeler points.

We outplayed the Steelers for three quarters, but the points put up by the Steelers were all big plays that were honest and well executed. I do have a problem with all of the talk on tv about how the defense for Pitt won this game. Seattle's offense moved the ball at will for nearly the entire game. The Seattle defense which looked strong the entire first half was beaten bad on a couple of plays and that spelled the difference.

Congrats to all of you Steelers fans.

The Steelers had this exact call go against them earlier this year. I might be a bad rule, but apparently it's the correct call.

That's ridiculous. The Steelers clearly didn't play their best game, but the Seahawks played incredibly poorly within the 20s.

I'll read this whole thread tomorrow and address anyone who warrants it. Until then,

And this had very little impact on the game. The Steelers would have scored on that TD play from El to Ward no matter where they were on the field.

Thank you. Let's imagine for a moment that Pittsburgh's first TD drive is derailed by a marginal holding call, Parker's TD run is called back by a phantom hold, and Randle El's TD pass is stopped by a mysterious offensive pass interference call. I guess everyone would be talking about how the Steelers didn't make enough plays.
