I play a couple higher dollar pools ($50 & $100 per square). Here's how they work it (I'll use the $50 pool for example)..........
100 squares/$50 each = $5K in payouts
When the squares are sold, you don't "pick a spot"..........after the pool is filled, each square has name pulled out of hat (totally random draw).
For EACH score change (requiring a kickoff), that square earns $50 (get your $$ back). Example.......a team scores a TD, kicks extra point.......kickoff, the score is 7-0. You don't pay the score change for the TD, and another for the extra point. Just the score when the ball is kicked off (7-0). So if there is a lot of scoring, there are a lot of payouts.
Each square TOUCHING the FINAL SCORE square, earn a $100 each.
So after all the score change payouts + the squares touching the final score square............the rest of the leftover pot is divided, 20% each for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd quarter squares, and 40% for final score square.
Pays a lot of ways..........keeps it interesting. The $100 pool does it the same way.
