SUPERBOWL XLV > Pats vs Eagles? (1 Viewer)

Many many things can happen between now and February but this is shaping up to be a potential collision course.... if it materializes then who wins?

:)

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it happen but what makes you think the Eagles are on a collision course for the Super Bowl when we don't even have our division sured up yet and are looking at having to play in the first round?

You just jinxed your team man, don't you remember what happened when everyone was talking undefeated a few years ago?

For the Super Bowl that will never happen, I'll pick the Patriots just like I did over the Giants.

I find it quite hilarious that so many folks think it will be a walk in the park for the Pats to get back to the SB. I just don't see it. It's way too early to start all this SB talk.

While I would love to see my Eagles get there (and WIN it!!) I seriously doubt it's going to happen. It doesn't matter who you think they might play against, they need to get there first. Like Insein mentioned, we need to handle first things first. I'd love to see another NFC East title and a home playoff game, but it's not a forgone conclusion that it will happen. Sure, we are in much better shape than most of us realistic fans thought we'd be at this time of the year, but come on, let's take care of the business at hand before jumping onto the SB bandwagon.

Dallas is playing much better all of a sudden and you can't just ignore them. It will be a dogfight this weekend.

Exactly. I felt a blowout was due for the Houston game but our secondary kept it close. We owe Dallas a whoopin after last year and yet I feel this game will be a close one. Sure we have a shot at the SB just like everyone in the NFC. We got a lot of work to do to get there though.

Eagles have the ability to dominate any team on any given game day....but something tells me that they'll run into a team that'll just smother them in the playoffs and not allow either the O or the D to hit them with those haymakers. Be it the Saints ( Sean Payton seems to have their number) or the Bears (who blueprinted them on D pretty effectively). That being said, I'll look at these playoffs as I did 2001.....I was upset the Eagles lost to the Rams....but felt that that was the start of a good run.

If you blitz Vick from his left, he's pretty much a pedestrian qb. The Eagles are in the top 5 of passing TDs against. The Eagles dont have a snowball's chance in Hades of making the superbowl. The Pats just crushed the Steelers, Colts and Jets having beaten the Ravens and Boltz earlier this year.Nobody said anything about a walk in the park, but if you've been watching football for the last 3 or 4 weeks its pretty obvious which of the 2 teams is more likely to be playing in this year's superbowl.

Whatever. At least I'm not spouting off on a message board about my teams SB lock.

I have seen several threads on FF boards, here and elsewhere, where fantasy players who aren't Eagles fans predict the Eagles for the Super Bowl.

If real football was played like fantasy football, I might agree with you.

But the defense isn't good enough right now. It's obvious when you watch the games. The offense can make up for some of that, but it's not the best situation to be in.

There are no more dominant defenses in the NFL, so maybe this can be overcome, but I'm not betting on it.

Funny how every Eagles fan who has posted in here has been a voice of reason. There are no rose colored glasses for realistic Eagles fans.

I have not (if ever) seen the SB race as wide open this late in the season as it is this year. I think there are at least 12 teams in the running and I do not see any truely dominant team. They all have warts; whoever can stay or get healthy can get hot like the Giants of 07, Ariz 08 etc.

I have said it before and will say it again, NE is in transtion and their pass D is not of championship calibre. Having said that, since it is so wide open, their chances are about as good or better than any of the others.

Can the Eagles win the NFC and get to the Super Bowl? Yes.

Can the Eagles go 1-3 in the last 4 games and miss the playoffs? Yes.

Like others have said, this team is far from perfect and those imperfections could haunt the Birds at any point.

At this point, it's just been an enjoyable season to see that the McNabb trade hasn't backfired and though it was Vick not Kolb, there was a more than reliable QB to take 5's place.

I'm scared to death of playing the Cowboys twice in the final four games. I don't see how the Eagles sweep these two games.

Tom Beiber and the Pats.

The NFL is pushing forth a soft ladylike era of the NFL and the Patriots are the lead dog.

You cant deny that Tom Beiber brings girls into the NFLs marketing fold. Its good business.

Eagles defense just isn't good enough yet, I think they have a great group of young players but they are still way too inconsistent to be anywhere close to a lock to make the Super Bowl. The offense will put up points but you need the defense to get there. The Pats, as scary good as they have been the past couple weeks, also have the same issue. The D isn't as good as it was when they were winning Super Bowls (and even then they weren't the best defense). It really is a crap shoot right now and I love it. I do hope my Birds make it but it's anyones game right now.

Some of the Pats fans on this board (a couple in particular) are extremely arrogant. I guess they haven't learned their lesson from 2 years ago. I don't believe the Eagles are a superbowl team this year. They have gaping holes on their defense and I don't think they will be able to outscore some of the better teams in the NFC. Vick is awesome and easily the most dangerous threat in the NFL but good team will find a way to keep somewhat in check. They don't really have to keep him completely in check because the Eagles defense will give up plenty of time consuming drives and points. This team will be scary in a few years though. Then again, so will the Pats.

Great minds think alike

Green Bay beat the Eagles once. They will do it again. Vick has shown he's human against good defenses. The Packers have one of the best. The Eagles defense can't stop Rodgers.

Color me a homer, but I fail to see how its extremely arrogant to believe that the pats have a far better shot of making and/or winning the superbowl than the eagles. The field is always a far better bet than any given team, but you dont have to look far to find "expert rankings" of probability on who the favorites are. The NFC is probably a little more wide open than the AFC atm.

A lot of people in here have extreme difficulty with hypothetical situations.
