Who's your surprise player of the week - Week 1

After each week of games, we'll create a poll of who deserves to be the surprise player of the week. The only thing that might be a little iffy about this is - How do we determine who's a surprise and who's not? I guess we'll have to let the polling decide.

State your claim - put your expertise to the test. Who will be the surprise player of week 1? Please state only one player per person.

Going out on a limb, but I've already posted this in another thread.I'll define "surprise" as an undrafted (in almost all leagues of a sane size) player who will produce top 30 stats at his position for the day.

Wayne Chrebet.

Not sure how you are qualifying "surprise", but I am looking for Justin McCariens to exceed expectations. WHile the KC defense has shown improvement (on paper at least), I dodn't think they will turn it around overnight and Surtain will likely be matched up with Coles.McCairens is familiar with the Heimingdinger offense having come from Tenn., and developed a chemistry with Pennington in the second half of last season.I'm thinking 6 recpetions for 85 yards and 2 TDs.

I think that Charles Rogers will not only go through an entire game without breaking a bone, but also remind us why he was such a covetted player coming out of college.

Tim Dwight will beat Oakland deep at least twice to the tune of 3/105/1 with a kick return for a TD as well.

Here's my pick...

Ronald Curry - I think this is the perfect situation for Curry to shine. New England DOES NOT want to get burned by Randy Moss and so it's very likely that he'll be watched like a hawk by the safeties, thus leaving other guys open. Jerry Porter is a GTD (game-time decision) but I think, he'll likely play. Curry just might be a go-to target for Collins when he realizes that New England has put all their efforts into stopping Moss. Porter may see some extended looks, but Curry in the slot, going over the middle on 2nd and 7 plays. I could see that being a common play, especially if New England is able to frustrate the Raiders from getting to Moss. It's a risky play, but it makes sense. I'd be more convinced if Curry had a full game in him since his injury, but I'm willing to take a risk.

Disclaimer: I am NOT comparing Detroit's offense to the Pats (OK, maybe a little)...but with all those weapons in Detroit, it seems to me that the ball is going to be spread around (much like the Pats) and the only two starters that will be consistent fantasy scorers will be KJ and Harrington. Hopefully, Harrington will be consistently GOOD.

Eric Parker: With Antonio Gates out for the game, the Cowboys will likely stack the line to try and stop LT. I look for Brees to come out thowing deep early and won't be surprised if Parker ends up with close to a 100 yrds and 1 TD.

I like your thinking, but I like Keenan McCardell as the main beneficiary.

Parker will be the deep threat, as well as the WR in the single set.

Sleeper surprise (starter wise) will be Charles Rogers, Mike Williams, and Keary Colbert

Ben Watson
:fro: Right on.
All owners who have to start him instead of Gates (including the illustrious Datonn) will be real happy with his numbers. i just dont see anyone in the raiders LB corps or DB corps that can cover him. he's too big for safeties and nickel backs, and too fast and athletic for the LBs.

I'm going to go out on a super limb and say that Bryant Johnson will benefit this weekend from the Giants having to solid starting corners in double Will's. Boldin and fitz will get their touches but the cardinals will play a lot of 3 wr's sets and Johnson(a former first round pick) will prey on whoever is the nickle back in the Giants offense. Also, he is Warner's favorite target.

I know you said only one surprise player, so I won't call him my pick, but watch out for Little LT - Sproles.

Chris Perry goes off for 150 combined yards and a long TD.
I'm assuming this happens AFTER Rudi does it first :(
Not neccessarily, as 90 of those yards and the TD could come on one screen pass on 3rd down. I love the pick, and it would be a surprise. :D

Oakland also really struggled vs. TEs overall last season:- Gave up 700+ yards to TEs

- Surrendered 12 TDs to TEs (worst in the league)

- Gave up at least one touchdown to a TE in 8 games

- Allowed 2+ TE touchdowns in three games

Last year was last year, but I don't see any big improvements. Granted these numbers are a little inflated by having to play Gates and Gonzalez twice each, but I'd bet someone in New England notices this deficiency on defense.

I'll go against a lot of experts predicting Cadillac won't have a big first game. 125 yards 1 TD

Exactly mt thinking. Rudi will rack up some impressive stats as well, but Perry will get alot of yards through the air.

Duce Staley, it looks more and more like he will play. I think the Steelers want everyone to think it's Parker, but Duce might be the shocker here

Jake Delhomme will light the Saints up. This is a grudge match from Week 17 last year when the Saints beat the Panthers (at Carolina) to take the Panthers out of the playoffs.

 Well, since you beat me to the punch, I'll pick someone else so I'm not labeled a biter...(but nice pick, I think he finally "shows up")

I'm gonna say Barlow makes a statement against the soft STL run defense...

rush: 24/115/1

rec: 4/35

Umenyiora Osi / NYG

3 tackles

2 assists

2.5 sacks

1 FF
you predicting that he'll own the man-mountain Leonard Davis?
Well the post did ask for a surprise, so yes, I guess I am predicting that. Of course I have the same guarantee as the TMQ, so there you go.

I second Antonio BryantI am a Cowboys fan and have always loved this kidI really think he puts it together this yearI start 3 WR and i have Chad Johnson, Steve Smith and Darrell Jackson and STILL want to start Bryant this weeki really think he's gonna go off for like 125/2looks like he'll do it on my bench thoughLoop
