Me too. I'd like to be able to draft, or at least get into contact with someone if we're drafting on one of my conflict dates.

I am unfamiliar with the amount of time an auction draft takes but am doing one on Xpertleagues to test out how things work. What I am finding out is that it takes a lot of time so figuring one day for this auction in my mind would be foolish thinking. A draft is different because it is one pick and go whereas this auction I am doing is taking awhile. I would think having a time limit of 4 hours on a player would be a good starting point and with a suspension at night time of about 6 hours. The auction I am doing now has a wait time of 2 hours but for the first few picks/rounds I think 3-4 hours would be ideal. Again, I dont think this one auction with 12 people having to fill in 24 roster spots is going to take one day... I would prefer to start early in the morning if we do do that. If somehow it could be done the following weekend (August 6th, 7th, 8th) would be great for preparation and stuff or this weekend where everyone will be on the cusp of events. I would hate having to miss this because of my soccer tournament on July 31st/Aug 1st.

a time limit of 4 hours on a player
 no.
All I am saying is spread it out over a couple days. It would be nice to do it in one day but with everybody's schedules I think to have an auction would be better to have over a couple of days. If this were the case we could easily work with each of our schedules and have time in between to plan and see how the draft is going. That is all I am suggesting.

A four hour time limit wouldn't free up your weekend, it'd mean you'd have to check in every four hours at a minimum, and hang around at your PC until your favorite player got picked. Hopefully we can use Unlucky's system from his Phenoms fantasy football leagues:

III. Auctions

a. Auctions will be conducted using the fantasyauctioneer software (located at: http://www.fantasyauctioneer.com/)

b. Each team has a fictitious salary cap of $200

c. The minimum opening bid is $1 on a player (it may be $2, depending on software limitations)

d. Players will be bid on one at a time, with a rotating nomination order

e. The bidding increment is $1

f. Each bid placed extends the bidding time on that player for 10 seconds

g. The bidding ends when no bid has been placed on a player for 10 seconds

h. The next owner has 30 seconds to nominate a player, or else the computer will select a player for him

i. Each team must have $1 in free cap space for every empty roster space

j. Each owner must fill his roster during the auction

m. The auction concludes when all teams have filled their roster

These auctions typically take about 4 hours IIRC.

I guess the fast internet connection is muy importante than. 4 hours is a little low since we will have more roster spots. Hey, I would be up for this type of thing, since I have a fast connection, to start at around Noon eastern time which would be 11 am my time during any day except for that weekend. Any other weekend other than July 31st and August 1st would be perfect.

very nice...good luck to all.Dave, if someone drops out, I'd love a crack at an auction format.Gator

We need to set a date. I'm having potential draft dates fill up with other activities the longer we wait.

me too, and this weekend is booked but the stated dates are close to coming into play too. as it is going we will have 1 or 2 days notice which is :wall:

Come on Fellas. You know the staff/owner is just stalling...trying to fine tune the dominator specifically for this draft. :P Boy do I have some deep sleeper gems!! And spare me the Hutchinson and Boerigter retorts :bag: Hey Maxwell, how does it feel knowing you're going to be drafting with the big boys?

I've drafted with the big boys, which is more than I can say for you.Come on over to No Mercy if you want the competition. (everyone else that is, not me)

I finally decided on how I'm going to break down my positions:QB: 5...I'm going to create my own "squeeze" since it worked so well in Survivor IRB: 8...Can you say Clarence Farmer?WR: 5...Fred convinced me WR depth is useless after 5TE: 1...Gonzo is all I needK: 3...The Dominator Said SoDefense: 1...Sinrman was rightCoach: 1...Go Cards!!Strategy: draft all of Dodds' handcuffs

It's going to be hard to draft Dodds' backups in an auction.

I was just curious how other people are structuring their strategy writeups. My basic outline is:I. Alotting Player ValuesII. Positional StrategyIII. General Auction StrategyIV. Dodds Tendencies/Rudnicki Weaknesses/Maxwell ShortcomingsSo far I'm at 2 pages in an outline format. Is an outline format OK? I don't want to spend too much time on it until I know that I'm on the same page as everybody else.

Did you include a section on how Doug is back in again this year despite not making the cut last year?

When is this again?? I am new to auctions so I do my writeups after the fact. I have a few targets that I want at all costs but... When is this again??

This guy is pretty pretentious, no.

This is the best they've got to challenge the staff?Rudnicki will run wild on em.

Keep talking punk... keep it up :gang1:

I'm starting to wonder if we're even going to have this thing. Still haven't had any word yet on when it will be, and the range of days Dodds wanted to have it starts tomorrow.

Yes we are still having this. I have been derailed on a few things here (including blowing up my monitor yesterday).

Can you guys post the best times and see if we can reach some kind of agreement.

I am ok with stretching the time fram out a bit, but we still need to get done pretty quickly. I definitely want to do this in one setting.

What everyone needs to do here:

1. Go to fantasyauctioneer.com via this link: Fantasy Auctioneer

This link will test your PC and make sure you have everything you need. Because they use some proprietary java applet, you likely won't have anything.

2. Please also send me your email address so I can set up a league.

3. Go ahead and play with the software in a mock draft versus computers. It is very easy to use.

4. List out what days / times are good and bad. I am guessing this will need to be done at night or on the weekend to get 12 people to do this.

Thanks in advance. Sorry about dropping the ball, but this week is nuts as everyone tries to subscribe before the price increase and that leads to lots of questions, hand-holding, etc here. But this draft is definitely going to take place.

David

To mock vs the computers, do we just create an auction, and somewhere along the way it'll let us set the other teams to cpu?

What about tomorrow (Friday) night? Or Saturday afternoon? Or Saturday night?Personally, my schedule gets very difficult from this Sunday (although I could do it Sunday night) until next Saturday, but I could probably pull it off on Wed or Thurs night. The week after that I'm fine. But the sooner seems to be better for you, and tomorrow night (or anytime tomorrow) would be fine with me. Same goes for Saturday.

Saturday is out for me other than morning.

This weekend sucks for me. I have a soccer tournament during the day and than work at night.Friday - start work at 5 pm get done at 3am.Saturday - soccer starts at 8am and goes to 3pm... work at 4pm to 10pm (later if busy, but if i have somewhere to be i.e. internet i can be there instead)Sunday - soccer depends on what we do on saturday... work at 4pm like saturdays schedule.Monday - would work great anytimeTuesday - would work great anytime... i deliver from 10 - 1 but whateverWednesday - would work great except i might deliver from 4 - 9 dont know yet.Thursday - would work great except might deliver from 5 - 8 dont know yet.Friday - same as the friday before... but during the day would be great.Saturday - no soccer this weekend and only work from 4 - 9 each day so in the morning would be great for me.

Kev...what time zone are you in...that will make a huge difference on the weekday nights.I'm completely open over the next week.Weekdays - I can start at 6 P.M. PST time on weekdays and go as late as needed.(I have normal workdays)Weekends - I can sacrifice either of the next two weekends...but will need to know ASAP. (I would prefer Sundays)Since Kev has the busiest schedule, it looks like his schedule only meshes with the 9-5 guys on Monday during this upcoming week. (Also,Chase's schedule seems to be the exact opposite of Kev's...not good)Should we shoot for Monday Evening or the second weekend?

I'd prefer weekend after this upcoming one or anytime in the evening starting from next Wednesday on.Also, can we stick with Daylight Savings time rather then Standard time when discussing times so we're all on the same page.

Kev,How soon can you find out about Thursday? With Chase's schedule it looks like that may be best, unless he can do Monday. Is there anybody that can't do Monday or Thursday.(not trying to be bossy, just thought David could use a little help organizing)

Guys - I'm having some problems with this. I'm still on 56k at home, so I was planning on using a work PC. However, when I tried to do the compatibility test, I failed on firewall problems:
3. If you failed the firewall configuration test...For performance reasons, we are currently using port 5555. Unfortunately, if you are behind a restrictive firewall (i.e. you are at work and your employer blocks all ports except port 80, the standard Internet port), you will be unable to use this computer for our auctions at this time. We are currently in the process of switching to port 80, so that by this summer, our application will be able to bypass any firewall that allows Internet connectivity. We will be scaled up to 15-20 servers by then, so the switch will have no performance impact. In the meantime, if you are having issues with your firewall, please be patient with us and use another computer to participate in our auctions at this time. If you control your firewall, please make sure you allow access to port 5555 and make sure that applets are accessible. Please see your firewall's help menu to get detailed instructions on how to do this.
Not sure what the timeframe is for their switch to port 80, or if I can come up with another place with a high-speed connection. Arrgh. I thought my day was at rock-bottom when I blew my engine this AM, but I was wrong again. :hot:

What city are you in Haze?

Mondays are always out for me. Otherwise, I'm pretty flexible and can likely participate any other weekday evening or anytime on the weekends. However, Aug. 19th to 22nd is out for me as I'll be out of town on vacation.

I can't, I have a conflict with some slow draft some clown wanted to start early. ;)

That's OK, you're really just one of the extras in this league anyways. ;)
