Survivor Season 48 - That's A Wart! (2 Viewers)

Yeah, As big of a goof ball/possible future killer as Andy is...and how much of a joke he looked like the past couple of weeks ("nobody sees the game I'm playing").....nobody is laughing anymore.

That move may have completely flipped who makes it to the end, and even though it took a really good acting job by Gen and Sam (that last minute "it will be fine" chat when they would have had to play an idol was a nice touch. Made the other 4 think they had him and kept their idols/advantages in their pockets)....it was 90% Andy. His plan and he had to lie right to the faces of his alliance.

I.AM.SHOCKED! SHOCKED! I can't believe that worked. I thought it was just another producer showing "Andy's plan" that would fail miserably. I cannot believe they pulled that off. I still really like Rachel and am rooting for her to win, but why wouldn't she use the block a vote there? She can only save it for the next tribal. She would have had 2 targets left in the leftover of Sam/Genevive and Andy, who they were clearly looking to vote off. Kudos to Andy. And Kudos to Genevive and Sam for playing their roles. I believe the lynchpin of the vote was Teeny, who probably convinced them to do the split with her blind hatred of Sam. That was a terrible and petty look for her.

@krista4 already mentioned it, but I unfortunately spit out part of my drink when dirtface Sue removed a slight smudge from Caroline's face. Reminded me of the bible verse of not removing a speck from someone else's eye with a log in your own :D

Rachel has a chance to go on an immunity run with this level of competition, and has an idol in her pocket. Good place for her but she was clearly stunned by that vote (and probably kicking herself for not using the block a vote). Really good insight and I think genuine remorse from Genevive about trying to play the gamebot version of herself. Pretty good shakeup in my rankings this week:

  • Rooting to win: Rachel
  • Like the players: Sam will remain here, but Andy is the story getting double promoted. That was a brilliant move and provides a nice redemption arc for him, even if he falls short of winning the prize. If he makes it to the end, it won't be as a goat. Good on you Andy.
  • Neutral - Genevive stays here, and if she somehow won it wouldn't be the worst thing. She's pretty close to moving up to the next tier.
  • Really don't like - Teeny. Added a "really" in front of this tier. Such an ugly look with her rant when she knew Sam was in a no win position there. Then she took on an arrogant stance as she thought she had the game figured out.
  • Can't stand - Sue. I just don't like her, she's fake in every aspect.

The problem is I don't think Operation Italy will win Andy any votes if he makes the final 3. There seems to be a lot of bitterness towards Andy on the jury. I think it was Sierra that said " Andy flipped again" when all the votes were read.

Also Caroline was shocked when Sue didn't play the idol for her as Sue said she would. Both Rachel and Sue left TC with regrets.

Yep. That is the issue with picking a winner watching at home when you just see the edit and who made moves while eating some chips versus people getting lied to their face and getting bounced because of it.

That was an epic move by Andy though.

Wow. Andy went from total spaz to genius mastermind. Amazing.

Teeny total awful. Very unlikable in this episode.

Rachel’s to win still but pretty wide open. Only certainty is everyone will want to take pigpen Sue to the end.
Laughing emoji. pigpen Sue.
Can you imagine how devastating it must be for somebody as appearance obsessed as Sue to be watching these episodes? Her face gets dirtier each episode. Lol.

Andy had to make a move because he was on the bottom of the majority alliance and knew it. The editing was clever in that it looked like the rest of the Underdogs were blowing off his suggestion to split the votes just like they blew off his suggestion the previous week to vote out Genevieve instead of Kyle. But they went along with it even though what we were shown suggested they wouldn't. Once the second Genevieve vote appeared I knew Caroline was a goner.

I think Rachel winning immunity may actually have helped Andy's plan go through. If Rachel was vulnerable, if she sensed something was off with Andy's insistence on splitting the votes, she would have been more likely to play her block-a-vote and/or idol. Since she wasn't vulnerable, she didn't feel she needed to. And neither of Sam nor Genevieve winning immunity also had to help, as splitting the vote on those two isn't an option if one is immune -- if anything, the majority's backup target probably becomes Andy.

I was sure this effort would end with Teeny telling the others "Genevieve DOES have an idol, we have to put all our votes on Sam." Maybe she just assumed they had a rock-solid 5-person majority and nothing would get in their way. Which is a dumb assumption this far in to the game. Even the Reba 4 started to fall apart at F7.

I think we can understand Andy's edit a little better now. He may not win, but he's coming back for 50 because of Operation: Italy.

Teeny's obsession with booting Sam is getting almost as weird as Sue's obsession with booting Kyle. The show has done a good job of contrasting her (hyperemotional) with Genevieve (not emotional) and explaining why they have fallen out. Her sudden hatred of Sam has no context, though. She doesn't like Sam because ... while he hasn't done anything to her, he reminds her of people who were mean to her in high school?

After Sam won the reward, I told my wife, "This is the rare case where it was good for someone to win this reward. It doesn't matter who Sam chooses because he is already on the bottom and the other players are already mad at him. So he might as well get the food, rest and letters from home." I certainly was not expecting that his choices would lead to a complete flipping of the game.

Here's what I think of the chances for everyone left:

Rachel -- Like Jesse in 43, the season seems to be hers to win as long as she can win immunity at F4 or win fire, which Jesse failed to do. But she needs Teeny and Sue to stick with her in this round and use her block-a-vote to send one of Andy, Sam or Genevieve home 3-2. Then she needs to play her idol at 5. If things get dicey at F6 and she feels she has to play her idol, then she may need to win immunity at F5 in order to make it to the end.

Sam -- As much as Teeny hates him for reasons that aren't clear, he could well win if he makes F3 and Rachel isn't there. He has this "I'm a wolf in wolf's clothing but you wouldn't/couldn't take me out" narrative. And don't forget that Sierra is the first juror and "Mayor of Ponderosa," and in many seasons, that person's opinion holds a lot of sway with the jury. And she will campaign HARD for Sam if he makes it to the end.

Genevieve -- Everyone knows she is a dangerous player because she is good at strategy and doesn't let emotional bonds get in the way of doing what she has to do for her game (though I still don't see how the Sol move made any sense for her.) She will have a lot of respect from the jury if she makes it to the end, especially if it was because she convinced Rachel/Sue/Teeny that she had an idol when she didn't. But juries often vote for the person they like best, and she hasn't made as many bonds as other players, so she may have an uphill battle.

Andy -- He was the main architect of Operation: Italy, but if that's going to lead him to a win, he has to survive to F3 and convince the jury that the move was his, and show them what he had to do to make it happen. Right now, all the jury thinks is "oh, Andy flipped again." Which is why I think Andy's edit is telling us he is not winning, but he is coming back for 50. I would not be surprised if he becomes Rachel/Sue/Teeny's target at F6 because he's too unpredictable to keep in the game any longer. Or at the very least, his vote is the one that's blocked so he won't be able to cause last-minute chaos.

Teeny -- Definitely not winning after this episode, between her aggro portrayal and her failure to prevent the split vote when she had more information than the other members of the alliance. She is a good social player but her game has had bad read after bad read. Heck, she and Kishan should have booted Genevieve instead of Aysha in episode 3. Would need a Teeny/Sue/Andy F3 to have a chance at winning, and Andy might win that if he can explain his game to the jury. Teeny and Sue have no game to explain.

Sue -- Has been drawing dead edit-wise since Kyle voted for her in episode 2 and she went off the rails. She's a strategic nonentity and has constantly been shown saying and doing weird things. She could have foiled Operation: Italy by playing her idol on Caroline but didn't. If she wins, I will question why the editors decided to edit the winner with serial-killer vibes.

Agree that Rachel winning immunity was critical. I think if she loses it she definitely uses one of the advantages she has.

Also Rachel being dumb with the block a vote was critical. If I ever get cast, I hope I can walk the line between greedy enough and too greedy. My main point is if I'm comfortably in the majority, AND I have an idol nobody knows about...PLAY THE ADVANTAGE EVERYONE KNOWS ABOUT.

I LOVED this episode. I loved it so much. Editing was great because I hated that they said Caroline when they should have decoyed to Sue. For the exact reason of an idol. Which I would never assume Sue had, but she did and could have played it on Caroline and I would have thought Caroline had something from Tuku days. So good. So good. I love it.

Anything that can upset the "let's all the weaklings band together and be weak together yayyyyyyy" that post-merge often becomes, I am 100% in favor of.

As much as it was a brilliant move by Andy, I don't see how much it actually helps him unless he makes it to the final tribal, which is now seemingly a much longer shot than it was before. There are two very distinct alliances with Operation Italy (3 with Genevieve, Sam, Andy) vs. Underdogs (3 with Rachel, Sue, Teeny) and the latter has both an idol and a block-a-vote while the former have nothing. I guess there could still be some idol shenanigans but I can't foresee anyone flipping from one alliance to the other for the next 2 votes.

idk. He was 5th of the 5.

He took out one of them. So he's 4th now, likely, as Sam and Gen still get voted out before him right?

Plus the 3 have two idols? I thought Rachel and Sue each have one.

He went from likely needing 2 or 3 immunity wins to "can i pull one out against Rachel, Sue, and Teeny when it matters most? Can I make fire?

And I never understand but would be so surprised if Sue and Teeny actually think they can beat Rachel. That's the craziest part of Survivor. Like Caroline's exit speech was "I really think I would win that one." I mean, if you can sit next to Sue and Teeny, sure. But you were 5th place if we all voted now lol.

Besides throwing a tantrum when Sam didn't take her, she also threw a tantrum when Genevieve told her that Rachel would beat her at final tribal council.

She was completely erratic this episode.

Yep. I think people will be aligning to sit next to her and Sue. Sam / Genevieve may be the exception as they do seem to be connected now.

Can't believe that group fell for "spilt the vote," from Andy. You'd think after his 20th time insisting of split the vote they'd catch on.

But they fell for it, enough so that both Sue and Rachel held on to their immunities.

And sorry Carolyn, you had a 1% chance winning this, and that would only be if Sue, and the disliked Genevieve were there with you.
And that might have been the worst final 3 ever had that happened. :yucky:

Listened to the podcast and Jeff unofficially blessed any action that is big like the Ocean's 11 / Operation Italy task shows that the person (people) involved get invited back whether it works or not. Just to take the risk that everything has to go just right, but 1 thing can derail it.

Absolutely wonderful game play by Andy. Such a weird player. One moment he gives off hard core Brandon Hantz vibes where he just seems like he has a mental illness. Then he comes across as an articulate scholar the next. Ha ha

I didn't have a problem with Teeny. She seemed okay. Then this episode. So ugly. The grand standing about Sam's stereotype was silly. Interesting that she didn't mention anything to alliance about G's idol. Cost her.

I'm sure she's never been stereotyped and couldn't understand how crappy that is.

pigpen Sue
A thousand times this. Rinse off your damn face.
It’s wild how filthy she always is 😂😂

I mean jump in the ocean!
At this point it has to be on purpose.
I can only come up with one reason. She has had so much work done on her face that she is avoiding too much ocean? She is maybe concerned that the water will lead to a bad reaction? She has obviously had her lips done, cheeks, Botox, hell I don't know just lots of stuff done.

A few people on other sites have made a good point about your second sentence. Andy has been acting weird AF all game. It's just how he is. So he was able to use that to his advantage. Your average contestant pitching a split vote as awkwardly as Andy did would immediately arouse suspicion. But Andy didn't because they thought he was just being Andy.

For a long time (certainly even more so in the "new era") survivor has propped up the misfits, outcasts, "weirdos", etc. All the way back to Hatch winning season 1 back in 1999 (when seeing an openly gay man on TV was a pretty unique thing)

Teeny probably feels like the show is a pretty safe space to crap all over the tall, good looking, presumably straight alpha male type. (Even if it came off very mean spirited and totally undeserved). Obviously we don't see anything close to all their interactions, but they've never showed anything from him that would incite that kind of vitriol. Seemed pretty clear to me that she's projected some stuff from her past onto the "quarterback type" guy that just happens to be in her way

During her pouting session she commented to the other people maybe she’s just hating on him because he’s a guy or something if I heard correctly. I get these people are starving and they are stressing but of course if the tables were turned this would have been what the whole episode was about and the person would probably have to make some public apology

Pretty sure she’s on the all girls team and doesn’t like men in general. Sam just embodies the good looking qb alpha male stereotype she particularly doesn’t like.

Right. If Sam said the same thing about her it would be WW3.

I am pretty sure it was her that commented about her "wife" back home.

Love Andy now, can’t stand Teeny.

While I loved the move just because one of the weaklings is gone and Teeny again was on the wrong side of the vote, I hope it wasn’t just for one week. If Rachel, Sue and Teeny stay together, the block a vote and two idols makes them the final four notwithstanding immunity challenge winners. Maybe Sue and Rachel throw Teeny under the bus knowing they still have idols. Only 6 left so only two votes left for them to play an idol and definitely a chance Rachel wins one of two immunity idols.

Also, I think they purposely have been taking every opportunity to show dirty Sue. It was obvious when they showed her working on the fire and rolling in the dirt that Sue was just getting dirty and had a lot of charcoal on her face.

Any chance Andy's issues from the start were an act to keep him around and under the radar and now he is making his move? I doubt it but part of me was thinking that possibility early on.

I actually thought that last night but I think he’s gained confidence from lasting so long. I can’t fathom that the early part was an act.

Oh definitely, I think they added that in because I can’t imagine the show folks didn’t see what we saw for weeks. Felt like they had to explain how she looked so dirty. People in here were talking about skin conditions, etc. when it was truly dirt and soot.

I get these people are starving and they are stressing but of course if the tables were turned this would have been what the whole episode was about and the the person would probably have to make some public apology
Pretty sure she’s on the all girls team and doesn’t like men in general. Sam just embodies the good looking qb alpha male stereotype she particularly doesn’t like.
I am pretty sure it was her that commented about her "wife" back home.
I was trying to be PC.
She said it, so let it fly!

100% agree. When talking to my wife after the ep, I said I loved the move but that I didn't know if it really helped him. The 3 women are still in control of things going forward.

But you were 5th place if we all voted now lol.

gonna say no to the bolded. sue will want andy out next for getting caroline out. all this did was buy sam and genevieve a few more weeks imo.

Any chance Andy's issues from the start were an act to keep him around and under the radar and now he is making his move? I doubt it but part of me was thinking that possibility early on.
I thought back on Redemption Island that if Philiip Shepard pulled it off at final Tribal to explain that his whole-game wacky "The Specialist" persona was all an act and he really was a cold, calculated former special agent and revealed that then, it would be epic. This might be similar if there's any way it's the case.

Can't believe I'm actually rooting for Andy. He's had a couple of good 'resume moments' recently, and if Sam/Genevive go next he'll have a jury member breaking down Operation Italy (so they know it wasn't just Andy "flipping"). "Operation : Italy" is going to be stuck in my brain like Michael Scarn's "Threat Level : Midnight" is.

Rachel wins this thing going away if she's at the end. Good story, a few moves, likeable, and she's a good communicator (needed big time for the finale - more than 1 Survivor championship was won/lost at final tribal).

While Rachel has played a decent social game, I am not sure why she's the favorite? She was gifted a reprieve at the mini-merge when she was all but guaranteed to go home. I understand that she was unlucky when they drew 3 new teams, but it seemed like show manipulation to save her.
She was then gifted an idol. Did not search for it, did not complete a puzzle or challenge for it. Just 'dumb luck' (maybe???).

So he was gonna lose anyway and still does? What would you do?

She solved a puzzle to get the steal a vote.

I'm not really impressed with anyone left. The winner will be whoever wins the final immunity necklace among the non-goats.
