Switzerland, anyone? (1 Viewer)

American Airlines used to go direct from JFK to Zurich but that changed when they bought US Air. We had a NY to Philly flight booked and they dropped it and put us on a flight that got in later than our connection...lol wtf! We wound up having to take a flight from NY to DC and then DC to Philly. PITA. Coming home, we went through London.

We've been to Lake Como and Milan so didn't go that way but Lugano looks really nice.
Drive to Philly, probably save you time!!

We thought about it but figured that we probably wouldn't have saved much time considering we'd probably leave extra early to go to a car rental and to allow for traffic leaving NYC, plus concerned if anything happened to the car. We're 10 minutes from LaGuardia...less risk.

We landed around 10am and our room was ready when we got to the hotel. We dropped our bags and had a great breakfast at Sprungli, walked around town, slept in the room from about 2-4pm and got back out again until night time. We even walked around a bit the next morning before heading to Lucerne. I'm glad we spent some time there. Great view from Lindenhof!
I haven't ruled out staying in zurich one night yet.  I really won't nail down plans for another 24-48 hours when the return flights begin to be bookable.  I churn credit cards so zurich has some hyatt properties that would work.  There aren't many big 3 properties in the other areas we are looking at, but the hyatt footprint with SLH will add some options in theory.

We stayed at the Park Hyatt in Zurich. Really nice.

Forgot that if you live in downtown NYC, you don't necessarily have a car.

You could have gone Euro the whole trip and taken the train down there! ;)

I live in Queens and have a car but we were booked to return to JFK through London so we would have had to rent a car to drive to Philly.

We never fly (unless we have to, like when we went to HI) so things like this are never an issue!!

Heading to Switzerland for a train tour around the country next June. It’s starting and ending in Zurich. Stops include:

1. Lucerne

2. Lausanne

3. Zermatt

4. St. Moritz (side trip to Tirano, Italy)

:bag:  did not notice that this was an old thread and had posted in the past.

While I really enjoyed st moritz, I would likely only want to return to ski.  I would say that it may not blow you away, but I have a slightly elevated view of the area as I had a life changing experience in sils engadin (near st moritz).
