This always happens to me. Theres a thursday game and I've got to get my lineup in this morning and I get the report that T.J. is Questionable for this weekend. I can't wait it out till Saturday and then decide, I have to decide now.

What are you guys doing? Keeping him in your lineup or sticking in a backup?

Has anyone heard anything other than "He did not practice."

Sounds like precautionary measures to me to hold him out of practice. (although I haven't heard anything else)Although I do have the luxury to wait in most of my leagues. I would leave him in there unless you think you can win comfortably with a backup. Who are your other options? league rules?

Housh missed a ton of practices last year and still played (with the exception of the first two games). I suspect it is nothing to worry about, although I would still keep my eyes open for additional information.

Standard rules, 6 pts per TD, 1 Pt per 10 YaRec

Other Starting Receivers are T.O. and Deion Branch

Backups are Santonio Holmes, Greg Jennings, Jacoby Jones.

I'm thinking about putting in Holmes instead to be safe.

As DY already pointed out, TJ routinely missed Wed. practices last season also and always played and always played at a high level.

Start him with confidence. :D

Saw this on the Bengals message board.

From CBS......

9/5/07 WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh Knee This is the first the Bengals have mentioned of any injury for Houshmandzadeh. The Bengals offense already has a daunting challenge ahead in the Ravens defense and not having a top receiver like Houshmandzadeh can only impair them further. Keep track of his progress throughout the week before making a final determination on whether or not to start him. If healthy, he's a must-start in all leagues. (Updated 09/05/2007)

I'd start Holmes to be safe. I dont think it is a huge difference this week even if both are healthy with Holmes against Cle, and Housh against Bal. Leigh Bodden (Cle corner) was arrested yesterday, so it is unsure if he will even play. I wouldnt make my decision based upon that news, but if you need something to tip the scales in addition to the knee...

That is a tough situation. For your sake, you better be right.Checking out TJ's game logs against Baltimore over the last three years:

http://subscribers.footballguys.com/players/HousTJ00-3.php

That's 6 games, 60 targets, 44 catches, 667 yards and 4 TDs. Yow! That's pretty good. Add to that, he didn't have fewer than 60 yards in any of those games. Gosh, I hope he plays for me.

Ha!

Didn't this happen last year with Steve Smith week 1, though more severe? Yea happened then too. Also happened during the Thanksgiving week but I can't remember which player.

furthering Mr Pink above.. do not bench this guy:

MATCHUPS TO WATCH: Bengals WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh, coming off his first 1,000-yard receiving season, vs. Ravens secondary. With Chad Johnson working the other side of the field, Houshmandzadeh has hurt Baltimore badly. In last season's Cincinnati victory at Paul Brown Stadium, he led all receivers in catches (10) and yards (106), and his 40-yard touchdown catch from Carson Palmer provided the eventual winning points. Houshmandzadeh's career-high of 171 yards in a game came in 2004 at Baltimore, and he had a nine-catch, 147-yard game with a touchdown against the Ravens at Paul Brown Stadium in 2005. In nine career games against the Ravens, Houshmandzadeh has 55 catches for 784 yards (14.3) and five TDs, an average of 6.1 catches per game and 87.1 yards per game. He also has had two rushes for 23 yards (11.5).

I've had Housh the last 3 years and he'll miss numerous practices, but always shows up on gameday. Get used to it, he'll be fine.

Is it just me, or is it a bit odd that we really have no information on the injury or when it was sustained? I even went through the Cincy papers and couldn't find any information at all. Generally speaking, I think this is good news insofar as it suggests that it isn't that big of a deal...

i'm fortunate to be able to wait for sun. but with your deadline, i'd do this, also.
I'd lobby your league to allow changes until Sunday, as well. I can't think of any particularly compelling reason to require complete lineups to be in so early. Obviously, you've got to have your Saints and Colts in by tonight, but the rest of your lineup should be free until at least noon on Sunday.

I'm the co-commish of the league, but usually it goes up for a vote. We'll see.

Update:

http://frontier.cincinnati.com/blogs/bengals/

Right tackle Willie Anderson, who did practice Wednesday, came out late to practice this morning in work-out clothes -- not his practice uniform -- and worked out on the side with strength coaches. There was no official words from the team, and Anderson could be following a pre-planned schedule to prepare for the opener Monday night.

Kicker Shayne Graham worked out on the side with strength coaches and then jogged over to the artificial turf to prepare to kick. He was in his practice uniform. He had limited participation Wednesday as he rehabs from a bruised hip.

Also not practicing for the second day in a row were wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh (knee) and cornerback Johnathan Joseph (foot).

Practice squad wide receiver Bennie Brazell appeared to suffer an injury to his left knee and sat on a water cooler with the knee wrapped in a large ice bag.

Levi Jones remains listed as the starter at left offensive tackle on the depth chart dated Sept. 4.

Media no longer are allowed by the Bengals to report from practice which players might be running with the first team or second team. Head coach Marvin Lewis sent that rule down today through the public relations staff.

Independent media are limited to watching to first 30 minutes of practice. Some NFL teams close their practices to all but team-owned media.

LOL at the bolded part. Roll over . . . play dead . . . sit . . . bark! Why not tell them what to write/cover at that point?

Damnit two days in a row eh? I think I feel safer sitting him just to be safe because my roster needs to be finalized before tonight.

I think tomorrow will be telling. If he doesn't practice Friday, he should head to your bench.

Remember they're playing on MNF too, I'm not terribly concerned about this yet. A couple of days to let the knee calm down can't necessarily hurt.... (i hope)

Except my lineup needs to be in by tonight.
I hate needed to submit the entire lineup before Thursday's game. But now there needs to be rule changes in leagues because the offical injury reports are now only submitted on Friday's after practice. This needs to be brought up to the commish.

Yes, I did not realize this when I posted yesterday. That means most of us could end up having to gamble if there's no new news. If that little "Q" is still there when I get up Sun. morning, I think I'm going to bench him for Cotchery.

Still a somewhat scary situation, given the Monday night start. I've got Reggie Brown sitting on my bench at the moment, and he may wind up getting plugged in unless we get something more definitive before kickoff on Sunday.

I'd plug T.J. in if I were you. He's now listed as "probable." This just posted on Rotoworld:
T.J. Houshmandzadeh-WR- Bengals Sep. 7 - 3:40 pm et T.J. Houshmandzadeh (knee) is listed as probable for Week 1.The designation means he's virtually certain to play. Houshmandzadeh practiced in a limited fashion Friday after missing work the two days previous.Source: Cincinnati Enquirer

He's still got a Q on my ESPN team, but the Player News is better:

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis didn't seem overly concerned about Houshmandzadeh (knee), the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Spin: Talking about Houshmandzadeh and cornerback Jonathan Joseph, Lewis said: "I expect them to be ready to play, but they weren't able to go full speed today for the entire practice. So they go onto that list of who didn't practice."

To be clear, this quote was from yesterday. Housh worked on his own, on the sidelines, today at practice, but has been declared probable for Monday night's game.
