T.J. Houshmandzadeh Owners (1 Viewer)

Granted, the weather wasn't great today but the lack of targets for Houshmandzadeh was alarming. And the bottom line is his production in the first two games has been brutal. Chances are you won't get much of value for him in a trade if you're in a league with savvy owners because everybody knows the Bengals are a mess right now.

So what are T.J. owners looking to do? Are you going to sell and hope to get something of value for him? Bench him until the Bengals show some signs of life? Or keep starting him and hope things magically get better in Cincinnati?

I dont think I can do anything but stash him on my bench and hope that they can get their act together. I doubt that you could get enough trade value to make it worth while.

They play Cleveland next week I believe, and those two teams have had their fair share of shootouts in the past. That will probably be the last straw

ETA - they play CLE week 4, they play the Giants next week. oof

I think the wind effected more than most people think. I'm going to not downgrde the Benfals for this performance even though it's very easy to do so after what we've seen

I have Palmer in a league and I am sort of in the same situation. I wouldn't blame it all on the weather. I guess we will see what Big Ben and Derek Anderson can do passing wise in this weather. I think it you have Palmer, TJ or Chad Johnson... u just have to hang on to them and hope for the best unless someone offers u a bail out trade.

I have Housh in 2 of my leagues. I don't have another WR on the bench I feel more comfortable with than TJ so he will remain in my lineup.

I have Palmer in one of those leagues and I will not be playing him until I see something out of that offense.

Btw, I'm now 0-2 with each of these two teams.

Well, I would hold onto him, you aren't going to get good value for him, you'd be selling low. I'm in the same boat with Palmer. I didn't start him though because of the weather conditions. There is no way for a team to have a good passing attack in that kind of weather. Today's stats are misleading.

Same problem with Ocho. I benched him this week and he'll stay there until the Bungles turn it around or someone offers me something good for him.

It's not fun having him now, but since you won't get jack in a trade. Hold on to him and ride it out  Uuggghhh..Kev
Totally agree. Not good play, bad oline, and rough matchups. The key for me is that Perry did a little better and there's been no change in the key skill players from last year (except Rudi for Perry, though the team felt that was an upgrade). My only hope is that the oline can get better over the next few weeks. But I'm not worried long term as long as Palmer stays healthy.

I have Palmer, Housh, & Ocho Cinco all on the same team. So my options are slim and none.

Personally, I'll be benching Palmer for JT O' Sullivan next week against Detroit, but I don't think you can bench TJ or OC unless you have an option like Bryant Johnson, etc.

Most of you probably play in 12 team leagues or larger so if you drafted TJ it was as WR1. So WR4 or 5 is someone like Bryant Johnson, Sidney Rice, etc. I'm guessing here.

So it seems to me that if you did that the only reasonable option is to hang in there and hope for the best.

Personally, I didn't think the Bengals could ever be in this bad of shape. I mean they really haven't been good for the last 2 seasons and Palmer & Co. have put up nearly 30 TDs each year and TJ and CO have caught nearly 20 of those combined each time.

After watching today's game in detail, I am certainly perplexed.

Were there big changes on the O-line? New Offensive packages installed?

Because it really looks similar to how Jason Campbell was against NYG on opening night... completely lost.

Anyways, you'll never get back in a trade what they "should" be worth, so my opinion is hold and hope.

so is he a guy who should be benched against the Giants? I just feel like he's going to blow up for 8-110-2 and I'd hate to have some scrub in there instead.

I'm torn. Holt went for 6-76-1 against the Giants so if the Bengals make a concerted effort to get the ball to Houshmandzadeh he could have a good game. I was more concerned about his lack of targets in the Titans game than anything. Housh is my WR1 so I don't like the thought of benching him in Week 3 but I'm giving serious thought to sitting him for a "lesser" option this week who I think has some upside. I was going to do that last week with Housh (I was going to sit him for James Jones) but I decided against it at the last minute and paid the price for it.

The line was destroyed week one... week two had some wind. I didn't get to see most of the game because the winds knocked out the electric in the 1st and hasn't been back on.... but I'm guessing that if it was 80mph at my house... it was probably near that at the stadium also. Maybe wait one more week? :goodposting:

The wind was terrible but it didn't stop Justin Gage from having a productive game. I like TJ a lot and I do think he'll come around but he's extremely risky right now and I don't think it's out of the question to bench him against the Giants this week - even for a lesser option.

Ugh. After owning him in almost every league last year I went ahead and made a deal for him as the last peice of the puzzle in my main dynasty league. Instead he has been an anchor through two weeks. I will be benching him for Vincent Jackson in week 3.

he'll be riding the pine with Steve Smith coming back from suspension
No offense, but this is an easy call. I'd start Smith ahead of Housh even if things were going great with TJ. I think the key question for Housh owners is would you sit him this week for a lesser option? Vincent Jackson was mentioned earlier. That's the kind of guy I'm referring to. Or an Amani Toomer, Isaac Bruce or Bryant Johnson. Or maybe Ike Hilliard in a PPR league. Guys like that. I think that's the question a lot of TJ owners will be debating this week. I know I will be.

Seriously?

It's week 2!? And one week's weather was a major factor.

I'll be the first to admit that the Bengals have issues right now, but I hardly see it as panic time for TJ. Palmer is going 3 for 20. If you think the Bengals are going to sit back and settle in for a terrible season, you're nuts.

Rest assured, the Bengals know there is a problem and are working on fixing it. The team has an amazing amount of talent, they've had issues getting it together over the first few weeks but they'll work on improving and improvement starts with a Palmer to Housh combo.

Give them time ... they'll bounce. This thread got me thinking though and I am going to go low-ball every TJ/C "Ocho Cinco" J out there in all my leagues.

Just traded for Chad J.. .. I am desperate at WR and the owner wanted to bail....

:lmao: - the sky is falling in Bungle land! They played two great defenses - and one game in hurricane winds. If you own any of these guys I would hold - if you dont swoop in and steal them - this is a good offense - it will get in synch soon!

I'd like to think he's going to turn it around and I know he'll improve on what he has done but I'm honestly starting to consider that he might have lost a step. He's 31 and his YPR barely cracked 10 yards last year.

FWIW, i just traded FOR Houshmandzadeh...

Houshmandzadeh & Bo Scaife for Roy Williams & Scheffler (i already have witten).

-biz-

Bench him until he produces. Even then (unless it's soon and for a couple of games in a row), I think he's on the bench and untradeable.

buy Housh on the super cheap if you can. This is the time of year to pick off quality players from panicky owners.

Great deal for the other team. Probably won't hurt you as you have Witten, but no question he got the better end of the trade.Trying to trade for Housh in one league and trade him in another ... guess it depends what you have otherwise.

Keeping him... and starting him. You are overreacting, and you are going to rip your hair out when you bench him and he produces. It's only been two weeks... and one of them had severe winds. I made a mad dash to my computer to start Chris Chambers over TJ when I read about the winds, but it was too late. I won the game anyways... and I have faith in TJ. Stud receivers and QB's don't just suck all of the sudden. Besides that, he is in a contract year!

its kinda funny cuz LJ (on my team) is in the same boat as TJ as far as trade value and i just got offered a straight up trade LJ for TJ (in a ppr league). based on their performances, its tough to tell who's the better value!

I don't think this is a new phenomenon with Housh and I'm not sure that the first 2 games should really alarm owners as he's played 2 tough defenses. He has averaged about 7 ppg (non-PPR) since the middle of last year; that would put him as a mid-WR3 in most leagues. I think he's probably closer to a WR2 because he has more upside than downside but he's just not a top 10 or even top 15 fantasy WR.

Wide receivers have scored in each of the first two games against the Giants. Santana Moss in Week 1; Holt in Week 2. So what are TJ owners doing with him this week? If you have a Top 20-25 WR that can start ahead of him, that's one thing but is anyone benching him for someone ranked lower than that? Or are you rolling the dice with him and hoping he can at least salvage some respectable numbers or maybe even crawl back a bit the way Holt did against the Giants last week?

Starting A Gonz over him this week with Fitz and Driver. Housh will be on my bench until that offense shows me something this season.

I can't argue with that. If those were my four WRs, I'd keep TJ benched this week too.

Desean Jackson is playing great on my bench but I can't justify benching TJ yet - going to give him one more week....

What's going on with him is concerning. In PPR leagues what I valued about him was his consistent week to week production. Last year he only had one game under 10 points per game and it was like 9.2. His first two games this year would have been his two worst last year. Than you look at his huge drop in YPR last year and the big fade he took at the end of the year and I wonder if he did not get old overnight. Which to me is what I'm trying to figure out. Is his problems related to the offense or is his inability to get open part of what is hampering the offense. If he has lost a step I think Henry might help free him up a little when he returns. No matter the problem with him I've really got little options besides him so I've go to pretty much ride or die with him.

The Ravens and Titans have either players or coaches who used to play the Bengals twice a year when in the same division. Both defenses are physical and aggressive. The weather didn't help last week, either. Slow, rough start for Cincy so far, but Houshmandzadeh should come around by weeks 4-5.

I think getting rid of him depends (as always) on the make up of your team ad the starting lineup rules of your league. I have Housh in a league that starts 4 WR. There's little reason why I would trade him. I'll let him ride out the storm as one of my starters until I find someone better (if you have Jackson or Royal, I'd start them over Housh right now) or Housh and the offense show signs of life.

i hate to keep bringing this up, but this is not a two-week trend. its a 10-week trend, going back to midseason last year. he got off to a phenomenal start and his numbers were what they were because of it. is he capable of another 5-game run like that? sure. but the norm is pretty average IMO.
