T.J. Houshmandzadeh-WR-Vikings? (1 Viewer)

Rotoworld...

"T.J. Houshmandzadeh has a trip scheduled with Tampa on Sunday, according to NFL Network's Adam Schefter.

And we have a surprise team in the mix. Schefter's Network partner, however, says the Vikings will do what they can to get Housh signed before he leaves the building. This could all be various negotiating tactics, but Housh reportedly intends to honor his trip to Tampa before making a decision Sunday night."

The last FA's to visit Minnesota (under the Wilf regime) they are not allowed to leave until they sign.

He's been in Minnesota all day. My gut tells me a deal is getting hammered out!

Agree. Housh in the slot. Rice and Berrian on the outside.

Bobby Wade is the odd man out IMHO if this all goes down

With the emergence of TE Visanthe Shiancoe....plus A D at HB

Man, Sage Rosenfels?

Welcome to your first legitimate starting QB opportunity!

Maybe you just have indigestion.

If Housh lands in MIN, expect both Berrian & Rice to improve.
Really? While i guess Rice cant get much worse, i dont think there will be enough balls to go around to make Rice anywhere near a startable FF option.
Notice I said "TO IMPROVE"..........I didn't say Rice was going to challenge Randy Moss for the single season TD record. He's got to worry about staying healthy for a full season 1st.

Rice will improve by staying healthy, not because Housh is there. I dont see how Housh going to the Vikings can be good for Rice. ...and who said anything about Moss, or his TD record? ;)

I think Rice would still be a strong (or at least decent) option in TD heavy leagues.
What would your projections be for Rice if Housh went to Minny?
He's really a tough player to project for. I think he has a ton of talent and is speedy enough to get open, but not a burner. Berrian would get the deep routes and TJ would get intermediate stuff. It would all depend on how they would run the offense. They don't run 3 WR now that often, but I'm not sure if it is because they don't have the WR or they just like the 2 TE for Peterson. And then it depends on how much they will pass or just use the pass to open up lanes for Peterson.ETA: who knows how the knee will hold upPlus, I really don't do projections so couldn't tell you for sure.

OK, let me rephrase. Why do you think an unproven #3 WR on a run first team, with an average QB, and a great defense would be a "strong/decent option in TD heavy leagues"?

Housh would get the vikings to move the chains down to the red zone more frequently, and Rice is a solid RZ target, as evidenced by his play this year.

Because, when you watch the guy, he looks a LOT like Larry Fitzgerald on jump balls, and I think he will take advantage of that as long as he stays on the field.

Even if he was as good as Fitz on jump balls, he would still only have a 6-7 TD ceiling if Housh was in town.

Really? He had 4 TD's off of 15 receptions this past year.

Was Housh there last year? Plus, i am saying his ceiling is almost double that.

Berrian going deep was like a theme for the Vikes passing game at times this year. Why change it? Does he do much else well?

Making Rice "just a deep threat" would sorta stunt his development as a WR, let him learn from these two and run every route he can.

Also, Housh is going to be bounced around the LOS for matchups now that there's not another top WR opposite him.

Honestly I doubt he would want to go to Minnesota over Seattle, TB, or even Cincy.

While I may not love it, I think Seattle is the front runner. He is from the West coast, went to college at Oregon State and has expressed interest in coming back closer to home. He was in Seattle yesterday.

The Tampa Tribune denies two national reports that T.J. Houshmandzadeh will visit the Bucs Sunday.

More misinformation from Housh's camp? Both the NFL Network and ESPN reported earlier Saturday night Housh planned to visit Tampa Sunday. ESPN went a step further and said he planned to visit Philly, which would be a big surprise. Houshmandzadeh is in Minnesota currently. Perhaps Housh's agent is just trying to drum up his client's price and become a Viking tonight.

after all the money they spent on BB last off-season, don't see how they would sign TJ...
Perhaps because TJ is a stud and BB is ###?
Right. They have the cap room. They aren't kicking his tires for no reason, they are considering spending the money. If they feel it's worth what it'll cost, they will. I don't understand why people think that you can't have two overpaid recievers on one team. The Vikings have 3 top paid D-linemen. They had two before they traded for Allen last year.

I understand the Vikes kicking the tires, but this news seems more likely to be coming from TJ than the Vikes.

Isn't 7 TDs decent/good in a TD heavy league?
If he hits his ceiling, his 500 yards and 7 TD's would be OK, although wouldnt win you any championships. Then again, if we are assuming everyone is hitting their ceiling, we will have 50 WR's who catch for 8+ TD's, so no, he is still not startable.

I think this would be terrific for the Vikings. I was one that was hoping they'd draft either Harvin or Maclin, so this makes me happy.

I may even upgrade to cautiously optimistic if this gets done.

That's a start, now if only Big Jim could enter the "half full" crew, then we will be getting somewhere!! :goodposting:

I'll be honest...I really like the idea of signing a big name WR (no pun intended), but if Rice is healthy, I think Wade is ok in his role as 3rd WR and I think that Rice could step up big time. I just don't know where else they would spend their money. I think the Sage trade was good for the team and he will win the starting job (not that it means he is special) and it will allow the offense to keep defenses honest.

"... if this gets done", then Mack may be more of a sure thing come draft day. Or could they trade down and still land him? (haven't looked at combine info lately)

Sage and CPepp will likely be parts 1 and 2 in my 3 headed QBBC next year. Vikings had 22 TD passes last year with Wade at WR and Gus at QB.

Vikings entertain Houshmandzadeh

Minneapolis Star & Tribune

February 28th, 2009 – 9:34 PM by Chip Scoggins

We have confirmed that T.J. Houshmandzadeh is in town and is having dinner with a contingent of Vikings officials in a private room at an upscale downtown restaurant, according to sources/spies.

Sounds like the team is putting the full-court press on Houshmandzadeh.

The big-name receiver (in more ways than one) says he wants to decide what team he will play for by tonight.

By JUDD ZULGAD and CHIP SCOGGINS, Star Tribune staff writers

A year after adding Bernard Berrian to their offense, the Vikings have their sights set on another high-priced wide receiver in free agency.

Owner Zygi Wilf dispatched one of his private jets to pick up T.J. Houshmandzadeh in Seattle on Saturday after he spent the previous day visiting the Seahawks. The expectation was that once Houshmandzadeh arrived, the Vikings would put a full-court press on the longtime Cincinnati Bengals receiver in an attempt to get him signed before he leaves Minnesota.

Houshmandzadeh and a contingent of Vikings officials ate dinner at a private room at Manny's Steakhouse in Minneapolis on Saturday evening.

Houshmandzadeh said in a text message to the Cincinnati Enquirer that he expects to make a decision "Sunday evening" about whether to remain with the Bengals or go to a new team. Houshmandzadeh reportedly is looking for a three- to four-year deal at upward of $10 million per season, and the Bengals have an offer on the table, according to the Enquirer.

Wilf was believed to be in the Twin Cities on Saturday as part of the effort to recruit Houshmandzadeh, whose visit to Minnesota came days after he named the Vikings as one of the teams in which he would be interested in playing for during an interview on ESPN.

"I'm looking at teams I think have good coaches and good offensive lines and good running games," Houshmandzadeh told ESPN. "I have no idea if those teams are interested in me. If I can play with Adrian Peterson, can you imagine what I would do getting 1-on-1 coverage with Adrian Peterson? I am going to win 98.6 percent of the time with 1-on-1 coverage with him in the backfield."

Concur.Rice has shown very little, and with TJ, Berrian and Shiancoenot to mention AD pounding it, Rice looks more and more like a distantlongshot to make a real impact.
