T. Jones Stats Tonight - Error in Play by Play (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
I am watching the game. I know T. Jones stats are incorrect - he should have 4 more rushing yards. How can I notify the NFL? Will this get corrected? It makes the difference between a loss and a tie for me...

Here is the section of the play by play for those who are Tivo-ing...

Third quarter

1-10-ARI31 (10:12) T.Jones left tackle to ARZ 35 for -4 yards (D.Dockett).

2-14-ARI35 (9:33) R.Grossman pass incomplete short left to M.Muhammad.

3-14-ARI35 (9:30) R.Grossman pass short right to R.Davis pushed ob at ARZ 20 for 15 yards (G.Hayes) [A.Schable].

Your not crazy, I saw it too. It may have effected the 2 plays after it too. I suspect it will be corrected in a day or two when they review the game.

It should show up here Stat Changes if its not corrected by the end of the game.

I can confirm that this error occurred. I just happened to be watching the broadcast and looking on at nfl.com at the same time. I'm not sure what you do about it except to look out for a correction at some point in the future.

As a Commish, my policy is that I don't let replays alone demonstrate errors and corrections, simply because I cannot view every play in every game so there is an element of inconsistency involved. However, I accept stat corrections when from the nfl or Elias Sports Bureau or a league hosting site.

Good luck.

Cool link - never been to that site before. Thanks.

I had a similar play last year with a Dallas game. They were off by 5 yards on play and it affected me making the playoffs. I went online to the Dallas Morning News and wrote an e-mail to Tim Cowlishaw and asked him to contact the NFL for me. He was real nice about it and even went so far as to say that he would write a story about my plight.

Well wouldn't you know it, they fixed the play in the scoring and all was right with the world. I ended up making the playoffs and winning the championship. With that money, I donated it to a local children's hospital where I received a special commendation and a trip to the White House. Really an amazing story.

I hope they fix this tongiht so I don't have to go through all of the junk to get it corrected on our league site...

Well, I have to go to bed now. I hope when I wake up, this will have been resolved. Good luck to all the other T. Jones owners who need that point...

Wow. I have Jones and lost 98.70 - 98.38. This would give me a win by 0.08 instead of a loss.

And if the NFL makes the change but decides he lost one yard? A 98.70 - 98.68 loss.

I am pretty sure he had no gain. The TV was showing second and 10 after that carry.Either way, your game is CRAZY close...Good luck. We have to get this fixed!!

Thanks for raising the issue. I posted it on my league message board with a link to this thread so there would be no one shocked if this actually happens. I know if I were my opponent and I saw my win turn into a loss two days later, I'd want an explanation. Hopefully the post will prepare him for the possibility should this change be made.

i did the exact same thing!

I'm glad I am not the only one that was wondering about that. I kept looking at NFL.com and then looking at the TV...I need that point.

If Thomas Jones gets those 4 yards, I go from winning to a tie.

So, no offense to the rest of you, I hope it doesn't happen.

the change would be announced today if so. For Elias and StatsInc, game tapes are reviewed all day monday.

Do you know where the best place to "look" for the changes would be? Website link? Thanks - I remain hopeful this will get done since it was obvious to me watching the game. It's a 4 yard difference, not 1. I really think someone just fat-fingered the play-by-play and it stuck...

email stats inc when(gametime IE 11:47 left in the 4th) where(on the 40yard line) etc. They'll take a little while to get back to ya but they'll give you a sound answer. I'd expect a day on email coming back to ya. Elias changing anything does nothing for FF, the stats aren't used by FF sites. Stats INC is not the NFL's stat provider but they do provide stats for most FF sites.

You can also try calling. I've called a dozen times. A few I get someone and we chat, the other 9 I get someone that answers phones and was no help. Email is definitely a way to get a better answer

Excellent. I just sent an email to Stats - I'll let you know how it turns out...

Not to dampen the mood but as Commish we've got a rule in place to not allow for things like you guys are doing. The stats in the site are the stats that we use, period.

Don't expect the guy you're playing or the rest of the league to simply award you a win. I would suggest getting up rules for this in the future.

BTW, the nfl.com stats won't change.

EDIT - I was told by Sportsline that Elias is their data provider, not Stats. It was last year FWIW.

Thanks. I found the information below on the CBS site. We have allowed corrections in the past, they just need to be official corrections, as long as it is brought up before the next week's games, even if it isn't resolved until later...

Question

I believe the Official Stats are incorrect. Can this be corrected?

Answer

The statistics presented within your fantasy league the day after the games are directly from the Official Statistics provider of the NFL. After the games have concluded, the games are reviewed repeatedly on video tape to correct any statistical discrepancy input during the game. The unofficial Live Scoring statistics displayed within the GameCenter during the ballgames are keyed in as rapidly as possible at the stadiums and are prone to occasional errors. Most, if not all Sports web-sites simply present an initial stat feed on their statistics pages, and are not overly concerned with updating the page unless a gross error is identified. The statistics within our fantasy products are accurate per the Official Statistics provider of the NFL.

- Please note that the live stats you see during games are NOT official. We receive official game stats each night/early morning after games are played and are updated according to the league’s certified box scores.

- Please do not e-mail if a live scoring error should occur. Wait to see if it is correct the next day and usually, it will be. Occasionally, there are small discrepancies in the live presentation that are taken care of rapidly, independent of official statistical scoring. If you believe the stat in question is still wrong the following morning (10am), this is the time to submit your inquiry.

- We do not change these official stats unless the NFL Official Stat, although we will include any late changes the NFL sends us by end-of-day Tuesday. If you play in a Football Commissioner league, the commissioner can manually change any scores in the league by using the ADJUST SCORING feature at the bottom of the SCOREBOARD page.

Thanks for the advice. I completely agree and have had the rule in place for years now. If MFL changes it's official scoring before the kickoff of the following week then the stats are changed.

I just received the following email from STATS, Inc. (though this may not be relevant if Elias is the official stat provider).

"We're sorry Brian but that play is still being ruled as a -4 yard rush and his stats are

11 carries for 39 yards."

I just responded with following:

"Really? He was definitely tackled at the line of scrimmage (31) for no gain so I don't think it is controversial. Is this not something that would be changed when people review the game on film??

Thanks again for your help."

I'll keep the thread updated if I hear anything else...

Also, since the game is being replayed on the NFL Network on Thursday, maybe there will be a chance for everyone to see the play in question.

At this point, I'm beginning to wonder if it will be corrected officially...

Well this latest update sucks. If you're certain you're right after TIVO rewinds, and they still don't make any changes, all it says is the so-called reviews they do are phoney.

Might want to check in with the wife and kids, bridaniel. Or maybe give mom a call to see how she is doing. I have a feeling these 4 yards are seriously interfering with more important things in life.

Thanks for the concern. All is well on the home front. :D The latest email from Stats is:"If the NFL reviews the film and makes the change we'll match our data, but in the end it's their call."We'll see....

Thursday is often the cut-off day. If the matter on Jones' stats isn't overturned today, it most likely won't be.

As to those razzing bidaniel, if your week's game hinged on that one point, wouldn't you have a strong interest in whether the stat was accurate or not?

Interesting...didn't change on MFL. Didn't cause me to lose or anything but I find it interesting CBS changed it but not MFL.

Anyone know how to get MFL to update? I sent an inquiry through the site but need the change to be made by tomorrow before gametime. Any suggestions?

Edited to add: I contacted MFL and the scoring change is now available for week 6.

Looks like the official stat change has been made by Elias (Thursday from the looks of the CBS and ESPN changes), but MFL didn't notice it until tonight (post below is at 8:18 PM ET) and they are leaving it to commissioners to make the cange themselves.

From the Myfantasyleague support board:

http://sidelineleagues.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=17560

Week #6 Bears-Cardinals game

The Elias Sports Bureau made an official stats change after reviewing film of the Bears-Cardinals game. The following stats have changed as a result:

• Thomas Jones: from 39 to 43 rushing yards.

• Rex Grossman: from 148 to 144 passing yards.

• Rashied Davis: from 31 to 27 receiving yards.

If you want to apply these stat changes to your league on myfantasyleague.com, you can use the For Commissioners > Statistic Changes menu item.

If you want to apply these stat changes to your league in FFLM, you can go back to Week #1 and then use the "Update" button to update your stats.
