Tampa mike now buffalo mike (1 Viewer)

@JamesWalkerNFL: Filed to ESPN: #Bills trade a sixth-round pick to #Buccaneers in exchange for WR Mike Williams, according to a league source.

Looks like Tampa is going wr at #7

It is a good move for both teams. Buffalo takes a low risk gamble assuming he can be cut easily next season. Tampa gets something for a guy they don't want on their team. As for Williams, I am not sure going home will hurt or help him. I think he might just be what he is, talented enough to stay in the league and be productive for years but dumb enough to be out of the league by time he hits 30.

I like this better than him being released...

Have to think Marrone likes the talent. You don't kick a guy off your team and then trade to bring him back unless you see something there.

Mike Williams was a beast, then he got hurt and people said he sucked. I think he was worth more than a 6th.

Sweet. There's an obvious connection with him being from Buffalo, and having played for Marrone in college. Things didn't end well for him at Cuse, but seems like a relatively low risk pickup at that price and I guess Tampa just wanted to be rid of him.

As a Mike Williams owner in a few dynasty leagues my initial reaction is I think I like this for Williams. He gets a bit of a fresh start on a new team and I think it can only help.

I like Marrone a lot a coach, what he did at Cuse, what he did last year with a hampered/limited QB and other injuries.

Offensively, where is all this going if the Bills release Stevie J.?

Who's WR1 now, Woods? Then Mike W and Goodwin?

What happens in the draft? Another WR, or maybe Ebron? Maybe a RB in the 2nd or 3rd?

I think Buffalo is looking to open it up.

I don't think the Marrone/Mike reunion is so odd, what was off limits in college may be ok in the pros.

Not a big fan. I think Williams is a knucklehead that can't get open in the NFL. He's tall, that's it. Waste of a 6th on a guy that could create locker room issues.

BTW, maybe there is some weird clause in the CBA that benefits teams that have a lot of players with the same name? Because I think this is like the 6th or 7th Williams on the team right now.

ETA: yup. 7 guys with the last name Williams now.

I like this a lot for Williams, assuming he can keep his head on right. The Bills were clearly running an up tempo offense and all the skill players there should have a good chance at solid production. I like the QB situation in Buffalo better, for sure

6'2 isnt really tall. Not short, but I wouldnt call him tall.

Has a 9 TD and an 11 TD season already. Seems to get open occasionally.
also he's 6' 2" which isn't all that tall, relatively speaking.
He is ~220 pounds, which is huge for a 6'1.5" WR.

He's more of a Crabtree/Boldin/Bowe type than a tall Fitz/Marshall/Demaryius kind of guy, but it's not like he lacks size.

He can be a good #2 catch-and-run possession kind of guy.

Kind of a surprising move given that they already had Stevie Johnson. Nice get for the price though. He's way better than anyone they'd draft there.

So he is tall?

It appears he is slightly tall but not too tall, well built and gets open occasionally. If I find out he loves puppies and Nicholas Sparks movies, I'm definitely buying.

Anyone who says Stevie will be released doesnt understand the situation.

-One of the toughest rooute runners to cover in the NFL.

-One of the best route runners also.

-If the Bills cut him, I believe he will only save the Bills 50,000 or something like that.

-Johnson is their best reciever.

-Johnson can play the X, Y, and Z positions

-If Johnson has a "down" year again, at worst they would ask him to take a pay cut.

The only way I see Buffalo releasing Stevie is if they spend a high draft pick (watkins or evans) this year + has a down year + refuses to take a pay cut, then yes he may get released AFTER the 2014 season.

Buffalo goes from having one of the worst WR corps to having one of the best in the NFL after this trade.

I love it!

Stevie might not be around for long.
Depends on what you mean by "long". Williams is only $1.4M this year. Both he and Stevie have huge increases in their contracts starting next year. So I think they easily keep both this year, but either dump one or rework contracts after this year.

Of course, the Bills were rumored to love Evans in the draft, so if they draft him, Stevie will definitely be gone.

The Bills paid Stevie a $1.75M roster bonus a couple weeks ago, which is a pretty strong sign that they're planning to keep him this year.

He is still better than the WR Mark Dominik drafted 2 rounds ahead of him.
When he was a rookie, a guy in my league drafted him. He made his team logo the O RLY? owl and did a crappy shop job with Benn's face on the owl.

The ORLYUS BENNs

"It was horrible," Hagensicker said. "I despise Mr. Williams. You live in the Sanctuary, you think about the name, and it's quiet and peaceful. It's what we moved there for. … It was shocking to me. He was the absolute worst neighbor anyone can imagine."
And full of cannibals.

I'm surprised that Buff is whiling to take that contract, they have a rotten history of taking WRs and this might just add to the list. They really couldn't get the one of the FAs this yr and had to trade for Williams?

As for Tampa, they might of played their hand about taking a WR early but they might not need Evans. Tim Wright (6'4" 220) is really a WR and could easily compete for WR2 duties, they might look for a slot WR instead of spending a 1st on Evans.

Cant he just be called "Mike Williams?"

Since there is no other Mike Williams to compete with him anymore.
