Tampa/St. Pete Guys - neighborhood choices? (1 Viewer)

I am moving to the area and have narrowed down the neighborhood/areas to buy our final home. It will be on the water/canal with boat lift. Choose between the Dana Shores/Bayport Colony communities on the northern part of Old Tampa Bay or the Tierra Verde/Isla del Sol communities of St. Pete. FYI - I will working at MacDill AFB so the commute from Dana Shores area will be much better - but the St. Pete neighborhoods will offer much better fishing - right? I am coming from the Wash DC area so a 1 hr commute will not phase me.

I know people that live in both. Go with Pinellas. Just north of Dana Shores is Town N Country aka Town N Compton. It's not that bad though, and it is close to the mall & airport.

If you are going to be boating the top of the bay sucks. You can flats fish, but it takes quite a bit of gas to get to the skyway. St. Pete is so close to great fishing & beaches.

You can get to MacDill fairly quickly over the Gandy bridge. It might not be much further at all. It's actually probably a quicker drive right now that 275 is a mess due to construction.

You may also want to consider the Apollo Beach area. Distance wise it seems long, but you can get to downtown quick on the crosstown.

Thanks Quez, this is the type of info I am looking for. I assumed that fishing the northern part of the Bay would be primarily flats, which wouldn't necessarily be bad but it looks like St.Pete's beach area will offer a wider range of fishing, and close to the Skyway bridge, Ft. DeSoto, etc. I did visit Apollo Beach and really like the housing (Mira Bay) but too far away from city "nightlife" for my wife. Strongly leaning towards St. Petes Beach area, you can find some pretty nice homes in the $500k-$600K range. Looking forward to moving there in September!
