Tandon Doss WR and Torrey Smith (1 Viewer)

Hey with the Ravens not grabbing Braylon Edwards or Malcom Floyd in FA. I think the Ravens must really like what they have in Tandon Doss and Torrey Smith. I just traded to get Tandon Doss in a dynasty league. So this is great news for me. Does anyone else agree??

I saw this about Tandon Doss by a Ravens Beat Writer in a Tweet.

A few thoughts from #Ravens practice.. O'Neill Cousins def knocked off some rust. Much more in synch.& Tandon Doss moves w/fluidity of vet.

FWIW, Flacco hand picked this guy---projected by some as high as a late 2nd, the Ravens took him in the 4th...personally, I'm alittle higher on Doss than Smith

Smith is a little quicker straight line, but I think Doss is a little stronger w/better hands...

Smith tweaked a groin this week, my fear is next week it's something else...I see Doss as a little tougher and likely to remain on the field longer

had this been a normal off season, I'd like the rooks chances a little better---almost 100% sure a vet WR comes in to take the pressure off the rooks, keep an eye on them mid Oct or so

the Ravens have 10% of their cap tied to Nagda's tag---they MUST sign him long term to allow the cap room to work something w/a:

--WR

--backup QB

--O-lineman or 2

--edge rusher

not asking for much here, am I?

COach Harbough said this about Doss in the Q&A after practice on 8/4

On what rookie WR Tandon Doss offers: “Tandon [Doss] has really showed up well. I would say that for all those guys. They have all done a good job, but the guy [Doss] catches the ball. You throw it to him, he catches it. He runs good routes. He is really big. He is long and he gets up the field fast after he catches it. The thing I think about Tandon is, [he] has been very consistent throughout camp, and that is pretty important. He hasn’t been up and down at all, and he has stayed healthy.”

Love Doss in dynasty. Seems to be smart, hard-working, excellent size, good route-runner, and big hands. There may be some other bodies there in Baltimore, but none are guaranteed to be the long-term #1 or #2 yet so the opportunity is still a nice one with Flacco at the helm. Excellent stash, imo.

Another snippet from today:

Rookie receivers Torrey Smith and Tandon Doss have both been impressive in training camp. Smith, the second round pick out of Maryland, has show good speed and doesn't back away from the Ravens veterans cornerbacks. He's also shown good acceleration going in and out of breaks. Maybe most important is his ability to adjust and get under the long passes. Very few times have any of the Ravens quarterbacks overthrown him.

Doss, the fourth round selection from Indiana, has excellent hands and he sucks up every ball thrown near him. He runs good routs and can make the catch and turn quickly. It remains to be see how the two will play in a regular season game, but they've been consistent so far in training camp.

Tandon Doss is playing like a young Anquan Boldin. Yeah....he's that good. His routes are clean and he's catching everything thrown his way. He may be the steal of the draft. Torrey Smith is playing lights out as well. He is fast and he's making extremely acrobatic catches

I tried like hell to trade him for a 2nd rd pick. That is over. You know who you are ;)

I was an Indiana football season ticket holder (I know it is like sighting a bald eagle) during both of their college careers. Doss is, by far, the more complete receiver and NFL prospect.

Hardy had all the size and speed, but no real football IQ. He ran two routes, streak/deep, and the 5 yard goal line slant; both emphasizing his size/speed combo. Obviously, none of that has any value in the NFL. He just picked on smaller NCAA defensive backs.

Doss is a complete receiver. He never really flashed as a speed or size prospect, but he ran routes like you would not believe. As a couple of you guys already mentioned, catches everything. He is not a guy who will ever break through double coverage, but he will be in the right spot, at the right time, and nearly always catch the ball if it is there. That is about all you can ask for out of a rookie WR.

Sounds like a nice NFL WR3-4.

ESPN's Todd McShay had Doss as his #4 WR in the draft:

One of my buddies who is a huge Ravens fan says he reminds him of former Viking Chris Carter.

per RavensInsider:

Wow, Derrick Mason going to the Jets.

Looks like the door's still open for 2011 relevancy for the Ravens rookie WRs.

If you are a dynasty owner of Tandon Doss or Torrey Smith owner. Mason going to the Jets is a good sign for you.

Yep I'm a Doss owner. ;)

Not sure about this year. Neither of these guys seemed NFL ready to me--maybe Doss, but I think Smith is a better match with Boldin, with Doss the possible heir to Boldin if he really impresses, or 3rd receiver. I expect a big year for Boldin, a lot of receptions to Rice, and something like 300-500 yards for each of the rookies, Dickson, and another d-level FA.

I like T Smith long term - if they sign Cotchery though it would bump him out....hope they go with the kid.

Cotch and Smith have very different skill sets. Cotch is an over-the-middle type with little speed, while Smith is built to stretch the field. I do agree it might bump Smith down a bit because he may not be on the field as much, but if the Ravens are intent on making sure there is someone to go downfield and draw coverage to open things up underneath, Smith is by far the best option for this IMO.

Smith is the better option over Cotch for sure. The Ravens drafted him for a more vertical passing game and Smith brings that while Cotch doesn't. Doss sucks in every ball that goes to him and after watching some film, I think he had the best hands in college football. These 2 WRs were great picks for the Ravens and could make up the losses for Derrick Mason and Heaps production

I may get flamed for saying this but I targeted Doss in every draft I have had so far based on I think he is pretty much what the ravens wanted to get from Boldin. I think he has those types of skills AND professional attitude. I just think he is going to be a no-nonsense guy that shows up to work and has the skills to do it and I think (just a hunch) that those are the things the Ravens saw too.

And the Ravens got Smith to stretch the field and allow Doss the kind of room to make those plays we are used to with Boldin. It may take some time, but I really think Boldin/Doss with the speed of Smith will translate into what we kinda thought that Boldin/Housh would have been for the Ravens had all those guys played at the level we think of them playing in their better years.

I grabbed Doss pretty late on one of my dynasty leagues but I'm not expert on the players coming out of college and I just generally read up on the rookies. I wanted to give a thumbs up to nfl.com on Doss because after reading about him over there and looking at how they graded him I grabbed him. He graded out very high and sounded like he was pretty polished and a lot closer to NFL ready than a lot of the earlier picks that were coming off the board. Footballguys is great but it's just a small example of the value of digging through a few other sources too as you prepare for those rookie drafts.

Wow that sounds like all Great and important things for a WR... What can't he do... could be super sleeper for dynasty purposes. :banned: :banned: :banned: :banned:

Good Comparison I agree, same fluidity and about same size at 6-2. Great, big hands and durable... :goodposting:
