Does anyone know how this rookie is doing in camp? It's been hard to get word about the backup LB's in Baltimore. Is he playing in the middle or outside? Is he destined to play on the practice squad this year? Is he worth holding onto in a keeper league?

He's been playing well in camp. Not a threat to start this season on the inside, but he won't be on the practice squad. He should contribute on special teams and will be needed depth with Prescott Burgess out. We'd need more information to know whether he's worth holding onto in your league (roster size, number of keepers, scoring system, etc) and we prefer those requests stay in the AC Forum to keep these threads news and discussion only.

Probable starter now that Scott is gone and Lewis may be gone too. HUGE bump in value no matter what spot he gets inside. Anyone know where he might end up if Lewis leaves too?

If Lewis leaves, he would seem to be an early favorite to claim an every-down role somewhere. I'm not sure anyone else on the roster is a clear every-down threat, so we could see the Ravens move quickly on a free agent rather than wait until the draft. In this defense, Gooden fits best as the RILB most likely, which, since the Ravens have lost lots of flexibility with Thomas and Scott out of picture) could be the better tackling role.

I didn't know if I should put this here or the Indy thread. Jene, you mentioned that Keiaho is in a similar tier/talent level (sorry for the paraphrase) as many of the other FAs. Does Baltimore make any sense for him in your opinon (all opinions welcome)?

Keiaho isn't dynamic enough to play ILB in Baltimore or any 3-4 hybrid scheme. Very unlikely that he'd be paired with Gooden if Lewis leaves. I was thinking more along the lines that Boley, Brooking, Vilma, Burnett and maybe even Peterson are similar body types with at least as deep of a skill set.

Thank you - I assumed that was the answer but still learning as I go along.

Boley, Brooking and Vilma are all spoken for now.....

If Ray Lewis returns to Baltimore and presumably starts at MLB, will Gooden slide into Bart Scott's position?

You would have to assume that this is the case.

Where do Jameel McClain and Antwan Barnes fit in? I am assuming Gooden takes over for Scott as well, but could it be a rotation of Gooden and McClain for this season.

With Ray Lewis staying in Baltimore for a few more seasons...welcome to the waiver wire in most leagues Gooden.

Bart Scott's role in the Raven's defense doesn't do much for most fantasy players.

(Rotoworld) The Ravens' website confirms that Tavares Gooden is expected to replace Bart Scott as Baltimore's starting inside linebacker next to Ray Lewis.

Analysis: Scott was only once a 100-tackle guy, but Lewis' impending decline could lead to more opportunities up the middle for Gooden. Gooden will also face competition from Prescott Burgess and Brendon Ayanbadejo in camp.

Man, this would be nice.

Rotoworld) Ravens beat writer Mike Preston has selected ILB Tavares Gooden as his 2010 breakout player.

Analysis: Preston believes last year's third-rounder will need another year in the weight room before he turns into a "beast." He could still put up high tackle numbers this season in Bart Scott's vacated spot next to Ray Lewis.

does this ILB position get many opportunities to rush the passer or is this guy more of a cover LB? I recall one year where B Scott had like 6- 8 sacks or so....

It can be. Scott's big season came while he was cleaning up alongside Suggs, Lewis, Pryce and Thomas while the secondary was still strong enough to not need him to drop in coverage. I don't think Gooden will be anywhere near as capable in pass rush as Scott was, but I think a couple of sacks is within reach if he gets enough snaps on passing downs.
