Tarvaris Jackson now #2 (1 Viewer)

The Vikings will break training camp this morning with their No. 1 draft pick on injured reserve, a brewing competition for the No. 2 quarterback's job and the indefinite absence of their top receiver.

On the day the Vikings placed linebacker Chad Greenway on injured reserve, officially ending his rookie season, coach Brad Childress said that rookie Tarvaris Jackson will be the first quarterback off the bench Saturday night at Pittsburgh. Jackson has leapfrogged veteran Mike McMahon on the depth chart, at least temporarily, and will appear midway through the second quarter against the Steelers.
On the radio they said that Tarvaris has the #2 spot currently. He will play 1.5 quarters tomorrow night and get time with the #1 O-Line. McMahon will also play 1.5 quarters. O'Sullivan won't play at all.

great value in rookie drafts right now...
I agree. I took him 3.8 after taking VY in round 1 of my dynasty league (20 keepers, 12 teams) because I like him so much. Of course, I already have Hasselback, McNair, and Schaub on my roster as well, so I feel pretty good for the future as well as the present.

anywhere in the 3rd is value in non-IDP leagues. There are about 5-6 IDPs I would take before Jackson, so his ADP *should* be about 25-26 in those leagues rookie drafts.

Unless you're in a Minnesota league. We'll probably have some guppy take him in the first.
Hard to say, what about implied payouts? If you are in a Minnesota league , odds are you can get an overly inflated return on your investment if you were to trade him once he becomes a starter.
I thought I already replied to this, but apparently not. You make a good point. The starting Vikings QB in my league would have a higher than normal trade value. If he falls to the 2nd, then I'll grab him. I've got plans for my 1st rounder.

Who sees the field first --Tavaris Jackson or Kellen Clemens?
A month ago, I would have said Clemens for sure, but now I think both could see the field by the end of the year. You would think Clemens is closer because of his experience against DI defenses in college (PAC 10 to be exact), while Jackson was playing against the SWAC, but as of right now, they are both getting good reviews and seem to be far from overwhelmed in their preseason action.

I agree. I think that the Jets will try to keep Clemans off the field if possible - that oline could get him killed as he learns. They will likely plop him in when their rookie offensive linemen get a season under their belt and the rb sitch clears up.Johnson and Pennington could both be hurt - but I think the RB and Oline sitch is much better in Minni and they will be more comfortable throwing a rookie in their. And finally, despite all evidence to the contrary, I still think ramsey will at least be a servicable back up.

Bloom or anyone else-

Would you rather have a combination like Vince Young and Tony Scheffler or Vernon Davis & Tarvaris Jackson?

I can't say one combo stands out over the other. Both of the big names have undeniable talent that could make them special players. Both have been mostly quiet so far. Scheffler and Jackson have great situations. Camp and preseason have given observers reasons to think both have chances to become productive starters. You should be happy to land either combo if you are picking 8th in your rookie draft.

TJackson went early 2nd round in our dynasty rookie draft right after the NFL draft (12 team, 53 player per team):

2.04 Jackson, Tarvaris MIN QB ® Notes: The last QB I like, and I think I can get one of my other targets later. This guy has huge upside and the Vikings really like him, and with Brad Johnson getting up in age, he will get a chance to compete soon. Very tough decision.

Wasn't my pick, unfortunately.

I think Davis is the only one of that quarter that projects as an elite player at his position, thus I would take the Jackson/Davis side of things.

Jackson has a great attitude and is really doing well. The new staff look like they have made a good choice with this guy. I would like to see Jackson in more games 1st.. but he might be allright even this year if Johnson were to miss some time with an injury.

The offensive line while talented looks like it still needs a lot more work before they start playing as a cohesive unit. Hopefully they jell sooner than later or Jacksons chances to see the field will be pretty high...

Jackson has made enough progress that if this continues I can see him being the starter in 2007. Best case scenario Brad Johnson stays healthy this year while Jackson continues learning.
