Tatum Bell or Addai (1 Viewer)

Which one of these from the RBBC will come out on top this year. Denver always puts up good rb numbers, but Shanny can turn on a dime. Tatum is just a fumble or two away from backup duties again. I think Addai and Rhodes will be sharing carries a year as long as they are healthy and it is productive. less risk to injury.

false statement - 100 percent false based on Shannie's history.Tatum is the starter and feature back - he is NOT in a RBBC.

Bell by far at the moment. Addai has shown some skills lately and seems to be working himself more into the game, but for the near future Rhodes is still going to get lots of time.

Like last year, Tatum was "the starter" only to see Mike Anderson run for 1000 yards and 12 tds.

not really close in my eyes. i'd take Tatum hands down imo. and i havnt always been an avid supporter of him till i seen how much hes come along this year.

It isn't like my memory hasn't failed before but I seem to remember Shanahan naming Tatum the starter last year at the beginning of the season. He was a hot commodity at the draft.

Anyway, I was just looking for opinions. FBG keeps saying how Addai will take over soon but I don't buy it. I think Indy will keep doing what is working.

Nope - never happened.Go read the blogger dating back to last August if you don't believe me:
August 31, 2005, 08:25 Broncos :: RBRB T.Bell, Battling For #2 JobLee Rasizer, Rocky Mountain News - [Full Article]The one-game assignment for the preseason finale Friday hardly is what RB Tatum Bell had in mind when the summer began. While RB Mike Anderson locked up the No. 1 assignment for the regular-season opener, Bell largely was an observer and special-teams contributor. Bell needs to find his rhythm and solidify his hold on the No. 2 job. Bell, RB Ron Dayne and RB Quentin Griffin will bid to earn regular-season snaps. Bell's expectations have changed to include impressing coaches to where he might be able to spell Anderson for two to three series a game. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------August 21, 2005, 06:46 Broncos :: RBTime For Double-Feature At RB?Matt Schuman, Greeley Tribune - [Full Article]Sometimes two heads are better than one, especially if it is a two-headed monster. The Broncos don't need a starting running back. They appear to have two. While in the past Denver HC Mike Shanahan has always had a feature back in his offense, this year it may be time for a double-feature. The combination of RB Mike Anderson and RB Tatum Bell appears to be a winning one.

In that case, look here:http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...howtopic=264704

I am going to merge this one with that one anyway, so you mnight as well read the opinions there

Well, that remains to be seen. Tatum will probably be "featured" at least as much as Mike Anderson was "featured" last year, and will probably finish in the top 20 in carries in the NFL... but it's very possible that Mike Bell might still get enough carries that people will still consider the situation an RBBC. Remember, Denver averages 33 carries a game, Mike Anderson averaged about 18 a game last year, and before last week Tatum had never had more than 17 in a game. I expect him to crack 17 carries a lot in the upcoming weeks, but the potential is still there for Mike Bell to get double-digit carries on a weekly basis.

Let's see what Shanahan does when they struggle to run the ball this week. Will he turn back to Mike? Who knows?

See Quentin Griffin for an example of when a guy was named the starter only to be yanked. See the RBBC last season. Shanahan is unpredicable.

Mike Bell is a decent RB who can play the Mike Anderson role. If Tatum shows any ***** in the armor this can be a committee again. Personally, I think Tatum benefits from carrying the ball 15 times or less a game as he's not big and benefits from hitting the long home run after someone else softens the defense.

I still like Tatum more than Addai, all that said.

I highly, highly, highly doubt it. Shanahan has a pretty long leash, historically, and definitely doesn't penalize players for one bad game against one great defense. Shanny's not stupid- he knows that bad matchups happen, and that even the best of players can have trouble producing in unfavorable circumstances.Remember, Quentin Griffin went 25/66/0 with a game-losing fumble, 12/7/0 with a lost fumble, and 21/66/0 in three successive weeks in 2004 before he lost his starting job. He also had a lost fumble in week 1, giving him 3 lost fumbles in three successive games. Shanahan didn't bench Griffin out of some sort of knee-jerk reaction, it was a long time coming.

Also, while I agree that Tatum Bell probably operates at peak efficiency on carries 1-15, the question is whether Tatum Bell on carries 16+ is better than Mike Bell on carries 10+. Obviously Shanahan thinks that's the case, so Shanny's probably going to be using Tatum more heavily from here on out.

Here are a few thoughts:

1. Last year everyone in FF assumed that Bell would be the starter and thus he became a commodity. Shanny named MA the starter in preseason and never turned back.

2. I can't see Shanny making a final decision and announcing it going into the Baltimore game, only to reverse his decision after one poor game. Shanny is as aware as anyone how tough the Ravens' D is.

3. After the great performance against New England, Bell has earned some slack.

Just my thoughts
