Has he be named the starting QB for the VIkings? Does he have the backing of the coaching staff to be the man this year? Any feedback is appreciated as I have not heard too much on him lately.

I just listened to them interview Childress on KFAN this morning. He listed Tavaris as the number one and Bollinger as the number two QB right now. He indicated that Tavaris was showing good progress during their "QB school" which is intended to work on him reading his progressions and building a foundation for doing that at game speed.

Of course Childress isn't going to come on the radio and talk badly about Tavaris, but I do think it answers your question.

Tavaris is currently the number one

The coaching staff is expressing their confidence in Tavaris

Childress has been saying exactly this the last couple months....he should be the starter unless he looks like total crap in training camp/preseason.

I'll just say, he looked more than decent in his start against the Packers last year. His horrible numbers were more a product of Childress' game plan and some awful drops by alomst every reciever he tried to hit. (the worst of which was Williamson behind the entire D at one point for what would have been an easy 6 and he, of course, dropped it - but it was a perfect throw)

He just needs a few weapons on the offensive side of the ball (and they started by giving him Peterson) and he will be fine.

My inside word, which ultimately comes through the owner, is that they are married to Tarvaris. They believe in him and see him as the future. There was never any contemplation of taking a Quinn or any other QB.

I heard this before the draft and all evidence appears consistent.

This is definately true. Unfortunately, it will take a few years for these things to change. Childress seems completely clueless as a playcaller (something he never did in Philly). I hope he gets better in year 2. And the WRs are terrible. The worst in the league. We didn't bring in any free agents, but did draft a WR in the 2nd and 5th rounds. The Vikings did improve their running game in the draft with Adrian Peterson. That could help open up the passing game. Because of these factors and the fact that he was supposed to be a very raw project coming out of college, I wouldn't expect big things early from Tavaris. He looked good in preseason, but overwhelmed in the regular season. That being said, he should be given every opportunity to start because we have nothing else at QB.
