TC's Suicide Contest (1 Viewer)

Weapon of Mass Instruction

Watch my feet!
TC -- hope this is ok. I figured some would like to discuss the contest and I knew you wouldn't want us to muck up the contest thread.

Things started to get tough when we got to week 6. BYEs really started to become a big factor. In weeks 8, 9, 10, we have multiple teams on bye AND we'll have 7-9 teams that we've already picked.

Week 8: 13 games, 7 teams you've already used -- gives you a pool of 6 games to pick.

Week 9: 14 games, 8 teams you've used -- gives you 6 games.

Week 10: 14 games, 9 teams you've used -- gives you 5 games to pick from.

*You aren't going to pick StL so really you have 1 less game even than that.

Now that we are 7 picks in, we're not really showing our hand since the strategy has already been shown. I tried to start off saving the great teams for later but that quickly became hard to do. MOST teams have already used NE and DAL and many have used IND already. I still have IND and NYG to use.

I used WAS this week and was feeling :pickle: most of the day until right at the very end where I was  then  then :headbang:

Well after the nail biting from the last 3 weeks, I needed a break so I took NE vs MIA this week.

My picks: PIT JAX IND SEA AZ CLE NE

While I havenot exactly left the best for last, I feel there are still good options available for me.

13 games, having used 7 teams already, means you have anywhere from 6 - 9 games to choose from. For example, if you already used Detroit and Chicago, that only wipes out one game, not two. Etc etc.Maybe a better way to look at it is - there are 32 teams. 7 have been used already, and 6 are on bye. These sets could overlap, so you have anywhere from 19 - 25 teams to choose from this week. It's going to be different for everyone of course, but I'm agreeing with your basic point that the pickin's are getting slimmer as each week goes by.

ANYWAY, I'm still alive, having used SF JAX CAR DAL TEN CLE SEA (in that order). So I still have a pretty full arsenal of teams to use, including NE and IND. Think I might roll with the G-Men this week but I haven't decided yet.

You're right. Just feels like that much of a limitation. Not sure who I'm going with this week. IND, SD, or CLE, I guess.

And you're right, that it really is much more of a limitation than the numbers indicate. Mathematically I still have St Louis still available, but in reality I can't really count them as one of my remaining options, as you pointed out.

Often picking correct winners is equal to picking correct losers - and that seems to be what many entries are doing in October by targeting the MIA/STL/OAK/ATL games

This week is pretty tough, but for those of us fortunate enough to make it through to next week, it's absolutely brutal.
