TE Darnell Washington, PIT (1 Viewer)

WBG84 @WBG84
Georgia TE Darnell Washington is a cheat-code making contested and high-point grabs because of his towering size, length and strong hands.

Can also make one-handed catches look easy. Like an NBA power forward going up for a rebound. #NFLDraft

A 6-7, 270 pound TE making a mid-air adjustment on the ball.

Darnell Washington is a freak of nature. #NFLDraft

Georgia TE Darnell Washington (6-7, 270) is a colossus who flashes above-average athleticism.

A man of his towering size should not be able to hurdle people like this. He's an intriguing prospect. #NFLDraft

Sure, he's huge but not sure why he didn't see more action at Georgia even with as much of a mismatch as he is, especially vs college kids. (Yes, I know he had Brock Bowers in front of him too.)

You could cut and paste that comment on almost every single offensive skill player to come out of Georgia the last few years.

The Georgia TE is listed as 6’7”, 270 lbs and is still able to move like this.
One of the biggest TE prospects the NFL Draft has seen.

Look For a Playoff Team to Take Darnell Washington First-Round
...He’s an athletic cross between a tight-end and a third offensive tackle

Complete tight-end

Washington can run and pass block, plus he’s a threat to catch the ball in the short-to-intermediate route levels. Not only can he pick up additional yardage after the catch, but he can even hurdle a defender.

That’s how athletic he is.

Even more, he can look like he’s blocking, but then sneak out and get wide open on a route.

Big time blocker

...one of the best blocking tight-ends I’ve ever seen in 40 years. He uses his dominant size and strength to block like he means it.

Pass catching

Imagine a much larger version of Seahawks’ wide receiver D.K. Metcalf running routes and this will give you an idea of what defenders will be facing in the NFL.

He’s a gigantic mass of chiseled muscle, building speed and elite athleticism, running into the short to intermediate route levels against smaller and less agile defenders. I say smaller, because he’s larger than just about everybody on every team’s defense.
...The name of the game on offense is finding, creating, and exploiting mismatches
...Don’t let the lack of receiving production fool you either. Washington had all-world tight-end Brock Bowers ahead of him on Georgia’s depth chart, who led the Bulldogs’ in receiving.

Washington held his own with a whooping 78% catch rate over his three seasons at Georgia (45 catches on 58 targets). He’s got strong baseball glove size hands that lock onto a football like a vice-grip...

This is the truth. Every player comes out of Georgia and teams think they've been misused but we can fix that.

Doesn't matter, Washington will be a ten year pro based on that skill alone.

Three years, 70 targets, 45 catches. There is absolutely nothing special about his route running. He is definitely a mismatch; so is Jelani Woods.

My bet is he goes to a run heavy team and evolves into a frustrating streaming TE. But the good news if you're in love is I make wrong calls all the time.

Got a feeling he is going to be a much better real player than fantasy player….you can not teach what this kid brings to the table…has a chance to be a real difference-maker as he can have a big effect on both the passing and running game…would love to see the Pats find a way to get him.

If you guys think this player is gonna be something in the NFL, can't wait for Bowers.....Is this another Jimmy Graham where he underperformed in the CFB ranks, and blows up in the NFL?

His vertical is concerning..doesn't quite match up to Graham or Jelani Woods' last year.

Graham is totally different as he was a hoop player who converted to football so he was raw...two things about Washington...I think he will be a stud in real football, the question is will it translate to steady production in fantasy football as you don't get points for great blocking...as for his college career the numbers do not scare me one bit...it has been pointed out before but these players from schools like Georgia and Bama may not put up the numbers they should have because they are basically playing on an all-star team...it should not be held against them.

Don’t forget the other TE at Georgia. Brock Bowers would have drawn targets Washington could have received

You are getting a complete TE, who will destroy 230 pound LB in the running game. Doubtful he is ever the target magnet other guys might be. More exciting for football than fantasy football.

OTOH, his nearest comp is Gronk

Mercedes Lewis is the obvious comp. I don't think he is ever super useful for fantasy because teams will use him a lit like Georgia did- as a 6th OL.

Some of his ooh and ahh catches were only that way because he turned wrong, lost the ball, or lost his feet.
What's that legend that went to Tampa Bay? Don't make this guy him.

He may be special and all, I just...it wasn't because of catches at the combine

Darnell Washington reportedly drew many comparisons to Rob Gronkowski after his impressive workout at the NFL Combine. Washington measured in at 6’6”, 264 pounds, 34” arms and posted a 4.64 40-Yard Dash. When Gronkowski participated, he measured in at 6’6”, 264 pounds, 34” arms and posted a 4.68 40-Yard Dash. The future is BRIGHT for the Georgia TE

Could he be the O.J. Howard we all wanted?
