TE George Wrighster (1 Viewer)

Can any Jacksonville homer shed light on the Jaguar tight end situation?

Kyle Brady is listed as the starter on nfl.com but Wrighster has 10 receptions to Brady's 1 for a paltry 6 yards. I am assuming Brady is the better blocker so is Wrighster pulled out when the Jaguars are in the redzone?

He holds a very small amount of value for the time being by virtue of Marcedes Lewis being on the bench. It’s more or less assumed that once Lewis’ ankle is fully healed he’ll become the immediate pass-catching TE in Jacksonville over Wrighster, and the only time you’d see George on the field would be in two TE sets looking to pass instead of run.

Lewis started to see the field a bit last week against the Colts, too, so his playing time should be increased from this point on. If you’re in a very, very deep league I’d take a look at him if he was your last option but he’s at best an extremely short term solution.

Talent wise there’s no question that he could be an effective tightend in the league, by the way. He’s just never been able to put it together, and the Jags have moved on to Marcedes. He was actually wide open on the first interception Leftwich threw against the Colts and would’ve gone coast-to-coast for a touchdown if not for the poor throw.

*Quick edit to say add that yes, Brady comes in the redzone package because he's among the elite blocking TE in the league. Whether that will change once Marcedes Lewis starts getting playing time is yet to be known but I'd assume we'll start seeing him out there in those situations with Jones/Williams because of his ability to stretch the field.

So it comes down to this, anyone have any good info on him. His last couple weeks have been comparable to Witten my TE so I thought I would give Wrighster a try.

Dazz covered it pretty well, I'd only add that with the injuries to first Greg Jones and then Wimbush, the Jags were left with no real fullback on the roster. For weeks now they've been using 2 TE single back sets and a TE as fullback among other quick fixes that have given extra field time to TEs. If/when Wimbush is healthy they could go back to more traditional personel packages with 1 TE on the field at a time. So things could get very tight for TE playing time. With 3 viable options, I doubt any will be a good bet short term. Longterm Marcedes Lewis is the guy, with Wrightster having a productive game here and there as he has played well enough to keep some of his field time. I'd get into why Lewis is the man, but I don't want to hijack this thread too much.
