TE Hunter Henry, NE (1 Viewer)

maybe based on the severity and timing, he can come back, would be huge to have him on the field this year...and for ####s sake Bosa too, why cant the chargers have nice things?

Yes, it can be real infuriating with constant reported injury from Chargers.  It actually made me questioning the competency of their medical and training staff.  Why can't they have a similar approach made by Eagles and other teams.

Not for nothing but the coaches son of the high school (Pulaski Academy)  that Hunter Henry attended, a coach that HH I've heard has a tight bond with to this day, that coaches  son returned from an ACL injury in 69 days. Granted this was at the HS level but I got a lot of people from Arkansas who were telling me back when HH got hurt to not dismiss him trying to come back early, that he has a tight bond with this coach and it would impact how fast he thought he could return.

He's also playing on a team whose QB played in a game with an ACL and per Dr Chao made one of fastest ACL recoveries.

Here is a link to the story of the ACL in 69 days story in case anyone is dubious: https://www.arkansasonline.com/news/2015/nov/26/zacks-back/

I personally wish he'd sit out the year, but my guess is if they are contending you'll see him on the field later this year.

Dr Chao also said today that it's good too see Henry doing this right now but that he's still months away

Good to see but still months from ready. A soccer player did return from ACL in 4 months to play in the 2003 World Cup

Hunter Henry (ACL, PUP) returned to Chargers practice on Monday.

Henry remains on the reserve/PUP list, but there is a possibility the Chargers could get him back for the playoffs. It would be a surprise if Henry were active for Week 17, and he certainly won't play this week. Henry's Monday return to practice opens a 21-day window to participate in drills and potentially be added to the 53-man roster. ESPN's Stephen A. Smith predicted Henry versus Derrick Johnson would be one of last Thursday night's key matchups. Neither Henry (PUP) nor Johnson (street free agent) played in that game, but perhaps Smith was just a few weeks early on the return of the Chargers' 24-year-old difference-maker tight end.

Hunter Henry - TE -  Chargers

Chargers GM Tom Telesco said Hunter Henry (knee, PUP) could return for the first round of the playoffs.

Henry was cleared for seven-on-seven drills this week. He's had a fast recovery from May ACL surgery, giving him a realistic chance at a postseason return. With the Chargers getting next to nothing from Antonio Gates and Virgil Green, getting Henry back would be a huge boost for an offense that's already one of the best in the league.

For Henry's sake, I hope he doesn't play.  Jerry Rice came back from an ACL too quickly and injured a knee-cap, which was related to the original ACL.

I will see your anecdotal example and counter with another. Melvin Ingram, a current Chargers player, came back faster than Henry would and played great.

I hope we never get to say "I told you so".
He has obviously been thoroughly checked out and cleared. I don’t think there is any increased injury risk, I think the only question is how effective he can be having missed the entire season.

Well mark me down as an owner that hates this news
I used to hate it as well but have come around on it, I know I'd be actually disappointed if they reversed course and said they were not going to activate him.

Way I see it there is no way he's playing if he's not medically cleared. I'm just going to assume HH and his representatives are intelligent people and fully aware that he is entering the last year of his rookie contract and no way on earth would they be taking the slightest risk. So for one thing just fact he is cleared and willing to play is kind of good news, beats alternative.

But reason I don't mind him coming back is I just kind of miss seeing him play, I'm a big investor in him on my dynasty teams and kind of look forward to seeing him play even if it's not helping those teams right now. Give me some good feels heading into the long off-season.

Hunter Henry (knee) is expected to be ready for OTAs.

This wasn't in doubt after Henry returned for the Divisional Round. It confirms Henry hasn't had any setbacks and will get in a full offseason. Coming off a lost year, Henry is a post-hype sleeper in an offense that has room for targets after moving on from Tyrell Williams.

Does anyone care to speculate on this guys upside? Can he be a yardage monster like Kelce or do we think a perennial under 1000 yards with hope of double digit TDS?

He’s been held back by gates and obviously lost a year to injury, but has shown well when in. With tyrell Williams gone and gates hopefully hanging them up for good it should give him a clear path to solid numbers- hard to predict 1000 yds for him, but the upside seems there. I think it’s reasonable to hope for double digit tds. The way it’s gone for Henry owners LA probably draft fant or something.

A year removed from ACL knee surgery, Chargers HC Anthony Lynn said Hunter Henry looks healthy this offseason. "Right now we expect him to be ready to go, and he looks good," Lynn said.

2 player stocks I’d love to buy: PHI TE Dallas Goedert & LAC TE Hunter Henry. Both offenses are going to live in 2 TE sets & both guys will go off.

He's going to be a "this will be the year guys!" player until the chargers give up the ghost and draft another te.

Sell high to the one guy in your league who won't stop believing.

I like Henry, but I am skeptical he will be a top 10 TE this season. He would need at least 75 targets to finish in the top 10. Last season, all Chargers TEs totaled 73 targets.

Last season, the Chargers attempted 512 passes and had 506 team targets. I assume the difference was throwaways or spikes. That was a big dropoff in pass attempts from previous seasons, but this is the offense HC Lynn wants, so I expect it to continue. The Chargers have great depth at RB in Ekeler, Jackson, and Newsome, so even if Gordon gets hurt their running game should remain strong. And the Chargers are now poised to have a top 3 defense, which just feeds into Lynn's philosophy of leaning on the running game and defense as much as possible.

The Chargers still have a strong set of targets in addition to Henry - Allen, Mike Williams, Gordon, Ekeler, and, to a lesser extent (but: speed), Benjamin. So Henry will have plenty of competition for targets. It is also true that Mike Williams emerged last season in Henry's absence as a top red zone target, which might reduce Henry's TD opportunities.

I hope I'm wrong, but I expect him to be in the 11-15 range this year.

Henry could be a monster. Had a fantastic rookie year as a 21-year old in 2016. 2017 wasn't as good as anticipated, but he's one of the few players at the position with stud FF potential.

Just 24, there's very few TEs I'd rather own in dynasty.

The dude had a quality rookie year then was depth chart blocked by a legacy player and a 1st year HC afraid to tell a franchise legend no. He blew a knee last year. It happens. I'd be more concerned about his concussion history.

Agree, why of all injuries is that concerning? AFAIK, he had one grade 1 concussion in 2016 and after protocol was cleared for the next game. His other injuries were left knee, right ACL and a kidney laceration -- I don't recall him suffering any other concussions.

This guy has the size and skill to turn in a quality season in a high-powered offense, but there are plenty of weapons on the offense, and the trend we saw last year of Rivers utilizing his backs much more in the passing game, and Mike Williams developing into a trusted red zone target, are what shies me away from believing "THIS IS FINALLY THE YEAR" for Henry.
