TE: Keller or ZMiller or Shockey or HMiller or Carlson (1 Viewer)

I have them ranked as

Carlson

Keller=ZMiller

Shockey

HMiller

Keller's QB situation scares me a little bit where Russell has actually looked a little better. I actually like both of their offenses. I think I am leaning toward ZMiller being ahead of Keller but by the thinnest of margins.

Edit: Added Carlson to list.

I like Keller a lot this year. He's the de facto #2 WR and a match up nightmare for defenses. My perception is young QBs tend to lean on their check down guys thus increasing the value of the TE. I like Z. Miller and Keller almost equally but I think the Jets may have more success than the Raiders and may have more red zone opportunities. That being said:

Keller

Z. Miller

Shockey

H. Miller

In the drafts that I have done Carlson usually goes 1-2 rounds before these guys. I have him ranked ahead of this tier as well but if I can get Keller/ZMiller 1-2 rounds later I will take that all day.

I changed the title to include Carlson.
Cool. He wins. Seriously though, Carlson should lead all of these players in targets(except maybe Miller), and with Hasselbeck back I would think he would have the highest upside of the proposed group.

Umm you better hope Walter Jones comes back this season, otherwise I see Carlson's value taking a decent hit.

Sadly I think Sanchez will be better than Russell this year and I'm going to toss my hat into the Keller Corner.

I don't get all the Carlson love. Has Hass ever really leaned on a TE? Itula Mili and Jerramy Stevens were never regular fantasy performers in their days with Hass. Carlson got most of his production with Wallace last year (4 of 5 TDs and 56% of catches).

I actually recall Stevens and Mili doing OK in Seattle. (This was before the recent TE explosion, so the totals were generally lower than what we see in recent years.) However, I was reading recently about how decimated Seattle's line is, and how that may result in Carlson being forced to block often rather than catch passes. Also, I worry that one reason Carlson got so many targets in 2008 was that all the other good receivers were injured. In 2009, Seattle's got Housh as a primary target. Branch and Burleson are also pretty good when they're healthy. So for now at least, Hass has lots of passing options. I think Carlson may disappoint.

:blackdot: You're making me rethink my rankings (which is a good thing)

Seattle has a new head coach and a new offensive coordinator. I wouldn't use the past to predict the present.

 Now I really have Keller and Z Miller in a toss up. Starting to like Miller a bit more. Russell looked better this week...

Hasselbeck Strengthens Rapport with Houshmandzadeh & Carlson --•ESPN's Mike Sando reports Seattle Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck strengthened his rapport with WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh and TE John Carlson during tonight's preseason game against the Chiefs.

I am also concerned here ...on one hand he seems like a better release guy, but I think back to how Gonzalez suffered for awhile when he had to stay and block. Anyone heard what the plan is here - could the Jones thing some how help Carlson (wishful thinking only)?

I'm also a bit concerned about Carlson's role, but perhaps on the optimistic side:1) Carlson is an important weapon in the passing game - I don't think the team wants to diminish his role here. Perhaps they go with a 2 TE set (John Owens?) that allows Carlson to remain a passing option.2) From most accounts, Walter Jones at age 35 has lost something. It may not be as huge of a blow to the line that many think.

:lmao: The new OC has been using a lot of two TE sets in the preseason.

I am really starting to become a fan of waiting to draft a TE like Zmiller and then coupling him with grand-sleeper (tm pending) Jermichael Finley about 4 rounds later.

ZMiller is solid and if Finley is continues what he has been doing with that offense you have a TE duo that won't finish many points behind the Wittens and Gates of the FF world if you play their matchups correctly.
