TE premium PPR leagues- how high is too high to take your TE1? (1 Viewer)

Having a great season
In PPR formats, with TE's getting 1.5 PPR, it seems to me like you can make a case for taking one of the elite TE's in round 1. If you're adhering to VBD strategy, the difference between the 2 TE1's and the rest of the field seems to me to outpace the drop off in production between RB and WR tiers in the first few rounds. If you are in the range of 5-10, it doesn't seem completely outlandish to entertain the idea of taking LaPorta/Kelce if the top 4-5 WR's and top 1-2 RB's are gone. Looking at the TE tiers, it feels like it's:

Tier 1- LaPorta/Kelce

Fairly sizeable gap

Tier 2- McBride/Andrews/Engram/Kincaid (maybe Kittle/Pitts? Each one of these has more questions than years past, IMO)

Moderate gap

Tier 3- Pitts/Kittle/Njoku/Ferguson

Considerable gap
Remaining TE tiers

Yes, you may miss out on a Bijan/Hall type RB, or a St. Brown/A.J. Brown type WR in round 1. But you'd likely be looking at RB's like Barkley/Taylor/Etienne in round 2, or WR's like Nacua/Olave/London. It just feels like gap at TE is much greater.

i've done a few TEPs and a couple TEP+ (+ being a .5 bonus for te first downs) leagues and have yet to see one of the top TEs go in the first. last night kelce went at the the turn so close (he was selected 2.1 but same as 1.12) and i got laporta at 2.8. i like risking it and taking a wr/rb in 1st then maybe get a top te. works half the time about. when it doesn't i'll tend to wait. very comfortable with ferguson or goedert (who should be in your tier3 i think)
