We had some things posted on this..what happened to the posts? Gates said his ankle is worse than the last couple of weeks. May only play on passing downs. With Cassel out, there is a good chance that SD builds a lead, and Gates sits for much of the game. If he don't get his in the first half, it could be ugly. Here's hoping that Gates is a part of the "lead-building" process in the first half!

This does not sound good but I have to interject that it's presumptuous to assume San Diego blows out the Chiefs today. I know this thread is strictly injury info but KC can simply run the ball if need be, they have the horses.

He's ranked number one on everything I've seen including this site. So, the experts must know something we don't...

I've seen enough times when the "experts" just didn't jack with updating their numbers and just always say "Oh, guess I didn't realize he wouldn't be playing much. Sucks to be you...". Late breaking injury stuff like what Gates has posted you pretty much need to make a judgment call...

watching fantasy football now on ESPN 2. they reported Gates said some time this past week he will play. then they said Gates said Friday if the game was today i could not play

He's going to play and he's going to play at something south of 100 percent. That number is unknown, and of course it just depends on whether "x" percent of Gates is better than 100 percent of a more healthy option for you.

I realize this doesn't help anyone...but that really is the bottom line mindset that we all have to operate under with him for this week- and the rest of the year if he does not regress.

The meme that Gates is out appears to have originated from this tweet from SportsInsights saying that he's been downgraded to doubtful.

SportsInsights doesn't cite its source, and it seems unlikely that he's actually been downgraded to doubtful on Sunday. Doubtful is for Fridays. On Sunday, he's in or out, active or inactive. So I don't know what to make of the SportsInsights assertion.

Also, there's no word from Kevin Acee yet, who is usually among the first to report these things. (Also no word from LaCanfora, Schefter, Mort, et al.)

I have been a subscriber and follower of this site for a very long time. Cheatsheets.net, etc , and I have never said anything negative about the staff in all that time. I understand that this is a hobby and an in-exact science to say the least.

With that said I am sorry, but there is no way that Antonio Gates should have been unanimously ranked #1 when there was even a chance of him being ruled out. This ranking was there early on and right up until game time today. Again, I understand that I am ultimately responsible for my own lineup, but once in a while I would like to be able to depend on the knowledge of a staff that I pay money to on an annual basis to give some reliable rankings. In my opinion the ball was completely dropped here by the entire staff, and it could cost some people their season. Some accountability here would go a long way.

I appreciate those who posted the pre ten o'clock rumors. It helped me make the hard decision to bench Gates and go with Zach Miller. Thank you.

Why shouldn't he be number one? Until he is ruled out with his injury, he is at the top of his position. Once he was ruled out, he's came off the cheat sheets. Seems pretty simple, IMO. It's not like this is a new issue. Gates owners need a backup ready to go. If you didn't, you weren't prepared...especially in the playoffs.

the previous poster was correct - just because a guy plays doesnt mean he's 100 percent - now sometimes a guy does play well regardless of injury, but this isnt always the case - cue Gates himself in week 12. Listing a guy #1 when he's been hobbled for several weeks makes no sense IMO, and the poster that was frustrated had every right to vent . . . this is not just a knock on FBG, but to all sites (I saw it today on ESPN and laughed) that had Gates #1 . . . it's just a cursory ranking devoid of any advanced thinking . . .

I had a backup thanks, and whether or not I had a back up is not the point here. To list Gates all week as the #1 TE right up until 12:59pm is careless. The rankings that I pay for should take all circumstances into account including factors such as past performance, opponent, weather conditions, player injury, etc, etc. After all, aren't those factors the reason why the rankings are updated on a daily basis all week long and right up to game time. That's what I pay for, because I don't have the time to do it myself. This was a blind ranking, if not just plain lazy. My 7 year old daughter can tell me that Gates would be the best TE this week if he plays, but I pay for rankings that I expect to be a bit more detailed.

I never understood the concept of paying someone to rank the players for u... I never have and never will, and most of my teams make the playoffs. Why don't you just hire a general Manager to run ur line ups / make trades / pick players off the WW and etc...point is dont cry about it; had he played I'm sure he would of had a TD

Then what's the beef? The number one ranking was predicated on Gates playing. EVERYONE who owns Gates knows he's dealing with injury issues. Most weeks he has been able to play through it and put up top production and that's what his #1 ranking was based on. Seems pretty obvious. He's been dealing with the injury but when he does play he's more likely than any other TE to put up top FF stats. This week he was ruled out and didnt play. So again, what's the beef? What level of detail do you want? You want them to add a caveat that is OBVIOUS to everyone just to make you feel better?

I'll agree to disagree.

UNGH

Following Sunday's win over the Chiefs, Antonio Gates (foot) acknowledged that he is uncertain he will be able to finish the season.

To be clear, Gates firmly said he will try to play against the 49ers on Thursday. But he did not even test his foot in the pregame yesterday and admitted he knew last Friday that he wouldn't be able to play against the Chiefs.
