Team Defense Rankings this wk (1 Viewer)

I wont go into any specific numbers because I don't want to give away subscriber info, but I'm specifically talking about 3 teams... PIT, IND, HOU. I owned the first 2 going into my playoff semifinal this wk, and picked up HOU to play this week against the Rams. The decision seemed like a no-brainer to me for numerous reasons & for the record I'm sticking with it irregardless, so this isn't a WDIS topic.

FBG rankings had the Colts highest of the three, I don't remember exactly, but since the game is over I guess I'm safe in saying "top ten." Suffice to say I didn't start them and in the league I'm referring to (with VERY liberal defensive scoring... 10 pt TDs, scoring for both points and yards against), they posted a whopping 16 points (10 for the return TD). 16 might not be bad in most leagues, but in this league if they hadn't returned the kick they would have been complete garbage. Even 16 in my league is average at best.

The Steelers are ranked slightly below the Colts, but I don't like the matchup with Green Bay (especially with their defensive anchor out again). They've been mediocre at best & pretty bad at points without him in the lineup. So I picked up Houston with their juicy matchup against STL, except they're ranked below the Steelers in the middle of the pack.

I guess I'm just curious about the logic behind the rankings and/or if anyone else noticed and was perplexed by the same thing...

Did you do the customized scoring options that the Turk set up? Those are :goodposting: and give a much more representative ranking for your league.

Hi QG. I'm curious about your note regarding "customized scoring options that the Turk set up". I'm not sure what that is. Could you please elaborate? I love going with matchup Defenses each week, and would appreciate any alternatives that would help me with my weekly choices.

Part of the subscription to FBG (which if you don't subscribe is totally worth it, btw). The particular section is: "Custom Cheatsheets/MyFBG - Drinen" (Doug Drinen = The Turk)

Custom Cheatsheets/MyFBG - Drinen is the item you're looking for

Actually no, I hadn't entered my own league's customized scoring. And the most recent standard rankings have HOU a notch ahead of PIT anyway. A little late at this point however for most leagues if you're looking for a WW defense for the week.Upon customizing my league's scoring, it does show HOU slightly ahead of IND & PIT, however the only factors I can see that would cause this is that HOU is projected to give up slightly less total yards (like 30) than the other 2 teams, and the yardage difference happens to cross a scoring level in my league. And slightly more turnovers (less than 1). On the other hand, IND & PIT are projected to get significantly more sacks.

Even then there isn't very much difference between the 3 tms (about 2 points total). Indy actually outscored their custom projection by 1, but they did it scoring a return TD worth 10 pts in my league, when they were only predicted to score .2 TDs. So the rest of the projection was obviously way off.

Again, I'm not trying to nitpick, but without even delving into detailed projections, HOU just seems like the obvious logical start of the 3, not just marginally better.

Well part of it seems to be the Texans haven't been very effective sacking the QB (they only have 22 for the entire season). The Rams are middle of the pack in allowing them (29).

Pittsburgh is second in the NFL in sacks and Green Bay's line has been wretched all year (dead last).
