Team Defenses - After a Bye Week (1 Viewer)

Is this a Honda? I don't recall seeing this broken down before, but I spend very little time reading the subscriber content relative to my time spent in this forum, so perhaps I missed it.

These numbers are pulled from one of my 2006 leagues. Results will vary based upon league scoring rules.

14 team defenses outscored the average of the #1 defense (Bears) last year following a bye week. 12 teams scored more than seven points above their average.

Team Avg Pts After Diff ByeTitans 8.6 31 22.4Chiefs 7.8 30 22.2Dolphins 9.6 26 16.4Bills 9.1 21 11.9Ravens 14.3 26 11.7Vikings 10.4 21 10.6Packers 7.3 17 9.7Cowboys 7.8 16 8.2Panthers 6.9 15 8.1Raiders 7.8 15 7.2Eagles 8.9 16 7.1Broncos 7.9 15 7.1Pats 9.8 15 5.2Redskins 4.4 9 4.6Giants 6.7 10 3.3Lions 6.1 9 2.9Jets 7.4 9 1.6Bears 14.5 16 1.5Seahawks 7.9 9 1.1Chargers 9.3 9 -0.3Browns 7.4 7 -0.4Falcons 7.5 6 -1.5Bengals 7.5 5 -2.5Steelers 8.8 6 -2.8Colts 5.6 2 -3.6Texans 5.0 1 -4.0Buccaneers 6.0 0 -6.0Jaguars 8.4 1 -7.4Cardinals 8.1 0 -8.1Saints 6.8 -2 -8.849ers 5.5 -4 -9.5Rams 6.3 -4 -10.3As for this year, there were four teams coming off byes last week:Redskins - 26 points

Titans - 17 points

Jaguars - 9 points

Saints - 4 points (200% improvement on their weekly average) :bag:

This week gives us:

Minnesota D @ Bears

Philly D @ Jets

Raiders D @ Chargers

Cincy D @ Chiefs

D gets 2 weeks to prepare for an offense that only gets 1 week to prepare for said D. makes some sense, and definitely worth following. i'd love to see more data on this.

Interesting.

I've studied offensive players' fantasy production after the bye and found no effect at all.

Here is some additional data: the average of all teams from 2001--2005.

Code:
Turnovers Sacks TDs----------------------------------------After bye 1.91 2.46 .23Other weeks 1.79 2.29 .15
Not a huge effect, but it does appear that there may be something there.

This is great information when looking at who to start. I was debating between Minny and NYG this week. This makes my choice that much easier.

VERY interesting... I just dropped Oak for Arz, and I think I'll stick with it, but this makes me wonder. I'll be keeping an eye on it...
