Take Rice, Forte, and Foster out of this and this will be a pretty weak year for FA RBs. Other than Hillis, who needs the right situation (SEA?), the rest are stop gap starters while you wait for your rookie to be ready. Tolbert and Bush offer some intrigue, but not enough to boost a lackluster group.

Wow, only about 5 of them (besides the big guys who will obviously be picked signed) will even be relevant at all. Yeah, real luck there

Is moran norris a real person?
yes, he's a horrific fullback on the 49ers. We lovingly call him Moron Norris.

Damn, how bad was that draft where R Brown, Benson, Caddy went 2,4,5. That will never, ever happen again. Fred Taylor and Barry Sanders kids be dammed.

Injuries derailed Caddy and Brown - both of them looked like they had very promising careers ahead of them but were brought down by injuries.

I could see Lynch getting some interest, but I think Seattle will bring him back. He'd be a good guy for KC.

I don't think any of them beyond Rice, Forte and Foster will actually be starters - at least clear cut. Maybe Hillis or Bush, but perhaps their roles will be in an RBBC as the thunder component.

I'd love to see Detroit make a play at M. Bush. We desperately need a true, tough, RB. I've not watched him enough to know how well he catches the ball, or does in pass protection, but he sure seems to produce numbers when he gets opportunity.

So does Arian Foster get signed by Houston to a mega deal or do they get the compensation picks from another team and go with Tate? I mean that first round in the 2012 NFL Draft is looking pretty stacked!

:goodposting: The kid they drafted is coming off a bad injury, M. Bush would let them take their time with him & Best.

With the Texans likely to make the playoffs for the first time (finally!), I think it would be really hard for them to justify changing things up. As much as we look at the two backs being interchangeable in fantasy, it is obvious that in real life foster brings things to the table Tate does not. The Texans also have a decision to make with mario and that could affect their flexibility in what they do with Foster. My guess would be that the team, like most, think they need multiple backs these days. They sign Foster to a contract fitting what he has done with them and they keep Tate. They then either franchise Mario or try to sign and deal (if they think he is not ideally a LB and aren't going to change back to a 4-3). I think if they decide to move on from him, they will find a 4-3 team that will love to bring him back as a tradtiional 4-3 DE.

(sorry to hijack thread but..) I'm confused by what you mean w/ Mario. Why would they think he's not suited for that position when he was playing at a high level and even guys like Winston have said they think he was having a career year before the injury? With a torn pec, it's not like a blown out knee. He'll build that strength back up with plenty of time to be ready as many expect him to be ready by Feb. At the least, they franchise him and use him...Also, I'm not sure why that would effect their decision to do with Foster. Foster is actually an ERFA, not a RFA as the OP suggests which basically means he has no rights. He is a their will and they hold the leverage. As everyone knows, you need two backs in this league.

On the Texans... they'll have to look at re-signing (or not) Mario and Foster, plus center Chris Myers who is having an All Pro season, kicker Neil Rackers, TE Joel Dreessen, and CB Jason Allen.

Mario's got around a $14m cap number this season I believe, so that by itself will make some cap room, but otherwise they were right up against the cap this year after signing J. Joseph. They might have some cap problems.

If they have to make some sacrifices I'd actually want to see them give Foster a long term contract, re-sign the guys above, and then trade Demeco Ryans. Not that I want to see Ryans go, but they obviously don't see him fitting into the Wade Phillips scheme. He was being pulled in anything other than base packages until Sharpton go hurt. As a 4-3 MLB he's an All Pro, so I'd rather see him get to go play somewhere that fits his game and see the Texans get some picks than watch his talents go to waste. That could free up some more money then for guys like Foster.

I think Tolbert will be franchised again like last year.

I never knew that he was tagged as a FB so the Chargers saved a big chunk of change. I could easily see Scrooge Smith doing it again. I bet all the Chargers players just love playing for that team. He reminds me of Comiskey in Eight Men Out, "29 is not 30, Eddie. You will get only the money you deserve."

I wonder if that is part of why they always seem to under-achieve. The coach seems to bear the brunt of that, but higher ups are the ones who tag players & sign the checks.
