Teens record, mock man drowning (1 Viewer)

I'd help in any way I can.  Call emergency responders and jump in to get him to shore.  He seemed to be mentally disturbed.  He couldn't swim, walked with a cane and entered a marshy area of a retention pond and continued into the water with this clothes on, which is something no rational person would do.  It was a stupid/insane decision for him to get into the water, but I wouldn't let him drown on my watch.  He needed help and those men didn't give it to him.  I think most of us would help the guy and worry about gators after the fact.
I don't know how you'd stop and think before jumping in. You read stories of people doing some heroic things to save a stranger's life not really realising until later that their own was in danger. It's a reflex for many people to jump in and help.

Calling the drowning guy stupid is wrong. What do you bet this is a mentally ill person, perhaps with Altzeimers, checked out, who has wandered away?

And no I did not watch the vid.

Update on news now:  family had reported him missing a couple days before..

Just goes back to how we are raised. They obviously haven't been taught anything valueable about life and respect so all they know is to watch and laugh, and of course video and post it nowadays.

These are the kinds of kids that will possibly, in their youth, or grow up and shoot someone with no remorse. And then we'll hear all the adults tell of how good they are. Yeah, they are who they are because they're not taught values/morals by a responsible adult.

I wouldn't even be surprised if the adults "responsible" for these kids didn't think anything disgusting about the situation at all.

Another sad display of the ugly side of humanity.
I think your post is very pessimistic.  These people were young.  I think there is an equal if not greater chance these young men will make this event an experience they will learn from, and when faced with the opportunity to help a fellow human again, they will do so.  Why would you think these people are finished products?  I'm glad I don't see the world like you.

I'm a really good swimmer so no doubt I would try to help 99.9% of the time but somebody mentioned a good point, if there were signs saying stay out of the water because of gators I'd seriously have to give it thought.
This is in town, near US1. It would be very unusual for a gator to be that far in.

Also the pond was fenced.

I thought the Florida rule was "If you can't see through the water assume there is a gator in there"
I said unusual, not impossible. The odds are small enough that it shouldn't deter you from saving a drowning man. Also there was no mention of gators in any of the articles when it would have been noteworthy for them to be there.

I still don't understand all this talk about saving or not saving the guy... that's missing the point. It's irrelevant because it's blatantly obvious these people did not value that person's life. They didn't film themselves showing concern. It was a joke to them, his life was worth less than nothing to them. That's the issue.

The didnt not save him because they couldn't swim, or because of gators, or because they forgot their ####### swim trunks. They didn't view him as anything worth saving.

You can tell by the audio that those kids aren't going to learn anything from this

50%+ of this board admitted they would watch a stranger drown while they save their dog.  Is that really much different than what these kids did.
