Tennessee QB, what to do? (1 Viewer)

If you didn't see the pregame, Collins only wants to play in the 2009 season if he's starting.

Then there's Vince Young "the future of the franchise"

what would you do?

I think/hope Vince Young is still the future of the franchise. Go Jags!

:goodposting:

Vince Young isn't very good but I think you have to hope things change because the Titans aren't going very far with Collins. I'd draft a qb in the 3rd or 4th round and then let Young be the guy next year.

I don't get it. Was Collins really that terrible today? They played a great defense and lost by three. Bironas missed a long kick and some questionable officiating helped the Ravens drive for their final points, too. A close game by evenly-matched teams, like we expected.

Why would you turn the team over to Vince Young? I'd have zero confidence that he's mentally tough enough to take that team to the Super Bowl.

The game could not have played out any worse for the Titans than it did today. That said, Crumpler fumbles inside the 5 yard line with 9 minutes to go, otherwise it's 14-10 Titans and 17-10 a few minutes later. Baltimore stole this game

Clearly you bring Collins back as the starter, if you are 90%+ sure he's better than Young.

If you think it's close/uncertain who is better, then you have a couple options:

1. Bring Collins back, and start him.

2. Let him walk, and have your supplemental picks improve.

3. Try and sign & trade him.

Honestly, I'm not sure Collins is really that good at this point, and I think the Titans aren't looking for a QB who can the game himself. There will be some QB's who are better than Collins on the market, and that list may get longer.

Bring in another vet if anyone capable is available and let him and Young duke it out in TC - unless Collins is prepared to do the same

Too bad McNabb isn't (probably) on the market anymore.

Stick with Collins coming in as the starter for 2009 and see if VY or Chris Simms can bounce back.

I think you're buying into the "future of the franchise" thing too much, Bri. Who's to say VY is the future?I think you go into next season with Collins as the QB in mind but you tell everyone on the team, whether it's the QB, right tackle or whatever that every starting spot on the team is up for grabs, just like it is every year. Best player starts at the position, period. If that's Collins, that's the guy.Forget about potential or the future, there are too many examples like Warner over Leinart that support playing the best QB on the team.

I'd stick with Collins and look for a top WR from this draft. I have my doubts that VY can physically play QB since he isn't much of a passer from the accuracy standpoint. With people now questioning his mental toughness I can't see what he has to offer other than rushing yardage.

:lmao: Collins is a good game manager and leader who still can make all the throws on the field on a team that needs to win now. The Titans need to upgrade the WR corps. That should be a priority this offseason.V. Young can afford to sit another year and learn if the front office still has confidence in him. I'd like to see them draft another QB and bring him along slowly as well.Collins certainly didn't lose this game and played admirably since taking over earlier in the year. He deserves a shot next season.

I genrally agree with this. It's not Kerry's fault that Lendale White or Alge Crumpler carries the ball like a loaf of bread. (Actually, Fudgie the Whale would probably take better care of the ball if it WERE a loaf a bread. Maybe I'm onto something there.)Collins got that Titan team within a couple plays of making the AFCC against a great defense. If his teammates take better care of the ball, he probably pulls it off.Not saying they shouldn't upgrade if the opportunity presents itself, but at present I don't feel they have any "upgrades" currently on the roster.

Man, my wife and I had to leave after the first quarter when it was 7-7. Tennessee looked like they were having NO problems running the ball at all. What the heck happened?!

Chris Johnson got hurt. You can't put this failure at Collins feet. He did all that was necessary to win. Fatdale fumbled and Crumpler crumpled.

I definitely don't pin this loss on Collins. At all. Chris Johnson is the cornerstone of this franchise & was none more apparent than yesterday. They really need another playmaker on offense (a quick WR to be exact)

I'd start Collins in 2009 & if Young is capable of leadng them when Collins's time is done, then he'll be the guy. I don't see this situation much different than Warner/Leinart in AZ. The older guys will be the guy until they're unable to get it done anymore or call it quits.

There was a report a month or so ago that Tennessee intends to re-sign both Collins and Simms after the season. Read into that what you will. I would imagine it would be an open competition come training camp, and let the chips fall as they may. Going into his 4th year, Vince Young still needs a lot of work, who may have even taken a step back in some regards. Young's rookie contract was a five-year deal, with an option for a sixth, with $25.7 million guaranteed and an overall value that could reach $58 million with option and roster bonuses and salary. At the time of his signing, his annual salary was more than Shaun Alexander, LaDainian Tomlinson, Reggie Wayne, Terrell Owens, Walter Jones and Steve Hutchinson, and almost as much as Peyton Manning and Donovan McNabb. He's a far cry from earning his keep.

Chris Mortensen (ESPN) just reported a short while ago on NFL Countdown that Kerry Collins will only re-sign and return next season if he's deemed the starter, and coach Jeff Fisher wants him back as the starter. FWIW.

not me, I'd prefer they trade Young. Houston fans love the guy, see what the Texans would give to bring their boy home.

I agree with KC and Leinart/Warner is a good example

That was White's 2nd fumble all year long. What about how he took care of the ball throwing a pick deep in Raven territory? Can't blame it all on Crumpler and White.
