Tennessee Titans (1 Viewer)

Weapon of Mass Instruction

Watch my feet!
:bag: Well, actually...

Hey, they doubled down on the salary cap for that 5 year run and it got them. What are you going to do? It is taking longer to work themselves out of the hole, but here are a few observations after yesterday's game.

Honestly, they didn't play all that bad yesterday and should have won. They lost by 3 on the road, being an 11 1/2 point dog. Titans lost a fumble on the 2 yard line, had a punt return TD called back, and except for having a bonehead, innacurate statue for a QB were almost in position to attempt a game tying FG.

So, here's the deal:

Titans are rumored to have at least $41 million under the salary cap heading into the offseason. They have very few unrestricted FAs, no one of huge note that the have to resign for big $, and will likely have considerably more $ under the cap after releasing/restructuring Pillar/Olson/Sirmon.
That is a LOT of money to work with. Spent wisely, that could really catapult them. Spent foolishly, well...
Currently, the Titans have picks in rounds 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 5, 6, 6, 7. I would suggest -- having just given VY the big $ -- they they not pay another top 3 pick but trade the top pick down and others up to get 2 mid 1st rounders.
These moves would allow them to jettison some dead weight and dead money like: Lamont Thompson (SS), Zach Pillar (OG), and upgrade the CB (Reynaldo Hill). Frankly, it is my opinion that if these 3 were upgraded and the Titans had an actual NFL QB that the team would actually be pretty dang good.
Notable free agents for 2007 (best info I currently have) at key positions: (CB) Aaron Glenn, Ike Taylor, Nick Harper, Jabari Greer, Asante Samuel, Ronde Barber; (DE) N.D. Kalu, Holliday, Wiley; (Safety) Cato June, Gibril Wilson (OG/OT) Sean Locklear.
Some young talent will work its way on the field. Calvin Lowery at safety -- is a beast on special teams. Cortland Finnegan CB/NB -- great against the run and speed to spare. Loper/Stewart on the O Line -- not Walter Jones but appear to be upgrades over Pillar/Olson. Vince Young -- Too early? Yes. Do the Titans have a choice? Not anymore. Not sure what the truth is -- but I think Billy Volek, for all of his many shortcomings, beats the Jets and Dolphins and the Titans are 2-1.My opinion is that Jeff Fisher will be back IF he wants to be back. I do not think that Floyd Reese will be back. Not sure what I want, but that is what I think happens. I do think there will be significant coaching personnel changes.

Whew. I feel better. ;)
