I can’t find the old thread, but Djokovic is pretty good. I think Alcaraz will role this generation. He has a similar mental toughness as the big three.

Awesome seeing American Madison Keys come from the 19th seed to win the Women's Australian Open.
Maddy! So happy for her and a long overdue and deserving major.

I'll admit I shed a few tears of happiness for her.

I was shuked when I heard she has been on tour for 16 years as I assumed she had won a major in her career prior to this.

Bunch of upsets already at Wimbledon on mens and women's side.

Bummed to see Coco and Pergula go out so early.

Sablenka... "Why didn't you say sorry?!!!" What an on-tilt whiny, sore loser.

Incredible win. I've been a big fan of hers. Was labeled as the next Capriati as a junior and then looked to have flamed out. Taking that year off due to tennis burnout did wonders. Loved her post match interview.

Missed this, what was the context?

That was a fun match. Great tennis by a couple of well put together young ladies. I was mesmerized.

pretty compelling ladies match on right now
Wow...first I've even heard of Ansimova- knocking off Saba to fo to the finals!

Did Saba implode like she normally does, or did the American just play better?
American played better. Last shot she hit to win the match was incredible.
This.

Sabalenka played well - not her best, but well enough to win. I thought she was gonna win when she fought off Ansimova's first match point. But Ansimova was just better today.

It's been a fun tournament to watch. Tomorrow's men's semis should be interesting.

Anisimova won a point on a net cord. Most players will hold their hand or racket up as to say I'm sorry like it's some unwritten tennis rule. Anisomova did not. During the next changeover, Sabalenka yelled at her. Sabalenka is a miserable person.

I actually like Saba...have seen her be gracious and accommodating in all the ways i hope major sports figures would behave. But she also seems to have a huge emotional shift that pushes her in the other direction (eg- her comments after losing to Coco in both majors)- which im guessing also gets in the way of her game, causing her to implode.

I read a live report of the match right after it ended that mentioned her storming off the court immediately...not so gracious an act, although i didnt know the reason. If the net cord thing is it?...pretty lame.

:lmao: I didn't even know this was a thing. Tennis people get upset about this? These unwritten rules are so stupid, and every sport has them. It's called playing tennis. This stuff happens, get over yourself (not you specifically Ramblin').

Via google ai:

In tennis, a net cord occurs when the ball hits the top of the net during a rally and changes direction, often resulting in an unpredictable bounce. If a player wins a point due to a net cord, it's customary to offer a token apology, acknowledging the lucky break. This is a gesture of sportsmanship, recognizing that the point was won due to a random event rather than skillful play.

it's definitely a thing- the apology- even at the youth level.

didn't know anybody would get upset in its absence... especially enough to storm off a court afterwards or whine to their opponent about it.

Saba keeps shooting herself in the PR foot with this stuff. took her weeks (iirc) to properly apologize to Coco for her comments regarding the match after losing the French final. so long, that you could practically see the publicity team's gears grinding just to make it happen.

and damn... Iga seems to be back on track- only dropped 2 games?
Iga's comments about her opponent (from BBC). I don't think Iga's historically done well on grass... maybe her first semi, let alone final?

"I don’t think I’ve played Amanda [Anisimova] on the WTA, we played in juniors and I mean she can play amazing tennis and she loves fast surfaces because she has a flat game and fast.

"I will have to be ready for fast shots for her being proactive but I’m just going to focus on myself and prepare tactically tomorrow because as I said, we know each other from juniors, I know how she plays but we've never played a match, but I don't have good memory."

I saw the end, they hugged at the net, Saba seemed gracious at that point. She then gathered her things and headed off with a few waves to the crowd. Did not seem like a storm-off to me unless she was supposed to hang around for Amanda's on-court interview??

The net apology thing is stupid.

Just watched the highlights... Yeah- no storming off at all. Gracious hug and judge handshake before walking off.

Post match comments reflect graciousness as well, but mentioned frustration about the netcord no apology and opponent celebrating a point before it was over (which they spoke about together).

So this all sounds like people who already dont like Saba leaning into their dislike to foster more dislike. Much ado about nothing from what I've seen.

I think Jokers done, unless he can somehow avoid Sinner in a major (injury or bracket...or Sinner getting knocked out early). Matches between the 2 are looking less competitive every time.

And not gonna lie, I'll be salty if Sinner wins this weekend.

Dude should have been knocked out last round. I get that's tennis/sports with the injury, but man his luck is incredible between this and even getting a chance to compete at Roland Garros with that weak ### suspension.

I guess. Although i feel more for the guy who has to withdraw.

But cant complain with a Sinner v Alcaraz final.

And would be cool if the american wins the womens side.

Djokovic is still amazing, but Alcaraz really looks like the future. His mental game is super strong, just like Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic had.
Sinner is already the future as well... they are the Big Two for the next half/three-quarters/full decade. Fonseca if he continues his trajectory.

This is rough so far...Ansimova a disaster.
She is. You could tell she was a bundle of nerves when she walked onto the court.
Its sadly embarrassing.
Is she crying during the match? :sadbanana:
She looked like she was crying during the first set.
Handled her post match speech much better than her match.
I was hoping she snagged the winner's platter from Iga, bonked her on the head, and ran off centre court, into the sunset.

Sinner/Alcaraz should be a good one. If it's anywhere close to the French Open match, we'll get our money's worth.

The ladies doubles is 1-1 in the 3rd set right now.

My SM feed has shown a several instances of Alcarazs good sportsmanship - the thrown racket point vs Shelton, and calling opponents points/serves in that had been called out by line judge.

the French Open match

Among matches I saw... only Legend-on-Legend violence even considered for inclusion:

#1 2008 Fed/Nadal Wimbledon Final; epic in every way and Winners/UFEs was insane
#2 2019 Fed/Djokovic Wimbledon Final; basically a repeat of the above
#3 2025 Alcaraz/Sinner French Open Final; long, grindy match, but shot making in late match was otherworldly and W/UFEs was high
#4 2012 Djokovic/Nadal Aus Open Final; marathon grind, mental toughness on display, but low W/UFEs moves it down list

#5 1980 Borg/McEnroe Wimbledon Final; 4th set tiebreak gets it on list
#6 2001 Sampras/Agassi US Open Q-final; zero breaks of serve, high W/UFEs, but a QF match and only 4 sets
