Terrell Owens (1 Viewer)

Dr. Awesome

Footballguy
What to make of this guy? He's amongst the league leaders in targets. Yet he is averaging about 50 yards per game and is catching less than 50% of his passes.

Is it time to stick a fork in him? Is he ready to break out? Somewhere in between?

The problem is Palmer and his wet noodle of an arm. If Owens has even Kyle Orton at QB, his numbers would be much better.

Palmer has missed him all over the field. Ocho is suffering too.

I doubt Palmer's arm will suddenly get better. Should we sell TO despite not being able to get much for him? Trade for the guy? Ignore him for the season?

On pace for 75 catches for 800+ yards. The touchdowns will come, but if the trend continues it will be the lowest YPC of his career. From what you can see when you watch a game, that's because of Palmer's arm and not TO.

stick a fork in palmer, who is the problem. he has not looked right for a long time now. the bengals need to place a higher priority on drafting a good quarterback next year. until they acquire a better quarterback, it will not matter much for fantasy purposes what wide receivers they have.

agree with the consensus. It's Palmer. watched the Carolina game Sunday and Owens was open multiple times and Palmer sent the ball about 5 yards to the left, right, or short.. Pathetic. Owens even split a double team down the center and was wide open for a long td, and Palmer literly got it about half way to him..

sad thing is I have to continue to start Owens due to injury/bye

This sucks - picked TO b/c I believed he still has it and seemingly, I was right that he still does but Palmer is even worse than what BUF had.

No value in trade and just using up a roster spot over almost-better options on the wire. Probably gonna start him this week but without confidence.

I've seen the same everyone else has, Palmer's decision making and accuracy is borderline atrocious. He hasn't been the same since the injury and probably never will be. The Bengals have a serious liability at the quarterback position and it'd be something they'd address in the near future if it weren't for the toxic contract. Owens is getting separation that's why he has the targets, Palmer is simply not able to make an accurate throw anymore and I don't see it improving. Palmer has gone from a top 5 talent to the bottom third of the league's starting quarterbacks.

I was high on TO and Ocho early in the summer but Palmer didn't look right to me in pre-season. I agree with the consensus that his arm looks done. No zip and worse, no accuracy. Here is a blurb from rotoworld via nfl.com:

NFL Network's Michael Lombardi believes it's a "huge concern" that Carson Palmer has become a "liability" in the Bengals' offense."He's not nearly the player he was three years ago," said Lombardi. "His arm doesn't seem to have the same zip to it. He doesn't have the accuracy with the football, and he's not as explosive." Coordinator Bob Bratkowski conceded that Palmer "didn't play well" when his passer rating from Sunday's game (53.3) was even lower than Jimmy Clausen's (53.6). This is nothing new for Palmer. We're not expecting a turnaround.Source: NFL.com

Frank Black needs to post more. GB that avatar.
There are a few others that are quite nice as well. To answer your question, I own him too and am not comfortable wheeling him out most weeks. I also feel that Palmer is the main problem and then you have Benson talking about them being a power running team and pounding the ball. They play Cleveland this weekend who despite their 0-3 record don't make great days for a lot of superstar players. The next question might be what could you get for him?

This is a good question. I traded FOR Owens prior to this weekend. He has a recognizable name and is getting boatloads of targets. I think if he can put together a couple good weeks his trade value might start showing signs of life. Until that time, you can move him for...what, Eddie Royal? Might as well hold onto the guy.Bengals homers - how good of an offensive coordinator do you have? You'd have to think if TO/Ocho keep getting open but Palmer can't hit them deep, the plays will get adjusted. Right? Will we start seeing more short passes and let the wr's fight for yardage? Will they start running nonstop?

Time to go to the next Palmer?
no. jordan is atrocious. proly why they got rid of jto. now there can never be controversy.heres the thing, palmer still has a strong arm. but he overestimates his strength bc its not what it used to be. more importantly, his accuracy is crap. and his throws tend to sail. also it seems that his footwork is bad, but im no expert on that. his best chance to succeed from a team perspective, is to become a dilferlike game manager. palmer is tough and commands the respect of the team. they believe in him. that will change if he continues to throw the ball. so hopefully he becomes a rich mans sanchez.as for the palmer has always been overrated crowd, yall are way wrong and all you gotta do is stroll over to profootball ref.

I'm probably going to roll him out this weekend...but I can't believe I'm thinking about benching the Bengals #1 for the Giants' #3 (Manningham).

I saw very little of the Bengal's game last weekend but from what I did catch, TO was getting open and often beating his coverage. I saw the same play kinged did - TO was open for what would have been a long bomb and probable touchdown...but Palmer threw the ball laughably short. Easily 10+ yards behind him.

The fantasy question is: if TO is getting open an getting separation and getting targets, will his prospects improve? That is, will Palmer improve in accuracy and/or strength as the season progresses or is there a QB in the wings to replace Palmer and improve TOs value?

Sorry, I hadn't checked the target #'s since this past weekend. Until that time TO had a slight lead. At least they're neck and neck and both getting some love from Palmer. If only he could hit his guys.

the backup qb is jordan palmer. he has played before. you can look up his number, he is woeful. and there is no way the franchise benches carson for his brother. so, no there is no qb in the wings to take over.

will palmer play better? probably a little. but not enough make owens super worthwhile. most likely, the bengals will shift more to the run and palmer throwing short low risk passes.

Hawk move Cincy-wise is to grab Bernard Scott. Palmer is awful.. defense is great.. and i say no way Benson holds up all year.

I own TO. Complete limbo. Low trade value. Unexciting to start him, but still seems hard to bench him for the likes of a Naanee or Heyward-Bey.

Yeah - it might not be so bad yet that I'd bench him for DHB (who is available in my league) but my league counts TEs and WRs the same (start 3 of either) and I'm tempted to try guys like Moeaki or Aaron Hernandez or even Marcedes Lewis over TO.

Just a shame that Palmer could be this bad. I'd like to think that he'll pick it up and maybe this is the week where TO gets a TD but if he doesn't, I think I might even just cut him.

Minor hijack here but DHB is worth a look (not comparing him to owens, just in general).Removing Week 1, he is tied for 2nd most targets in week 2 and 3 (13 and 11 respectively). Oak has a nice schedule as well. I think DHB is a cheap buy that could start to produce results in the very near future.

Cincy's offense has been mediocore at best. If Palmer doesn't improve, Benson will continue to get the rock and pound the line. He has proven to be effective in this role but I'm not sure how much pounding he can continue to deliver if the offense remains stagnant. I had Benson and MJD as my starters with A.Bradshaw on the bench. Just traded Benson for Thomas Jones and Santiono Holmes as I have a gut feeling Benson will wear down and Scott will get more and more play time to keep Benson fresh.

For week 4, I may start DHB over TO. Nothing against TO, but Palmer looks awful to me. I know that TO is prone to blow up in any given week and that he is playing against CLE this week, but I'm beginning to wonder if that matters when Palmer is so lame.

It is a combination of things. Palmer is not the Palmer of old and TO is getting a little long in the tooth.

I could have picked up Collie after the first week but kept TO on name value.

I'm not sure you can start these guys with confidence. I'm benching TO for Hester/Manningham. I know he's going to blow up soon but until he does he sits on my bench.

im usually not confident predicting injury, but i thought this same thing after week 3 game and snagged scott in the leagues he was available.another decent prediction, is that palmer will not be allowed to throw downfield as much, and jordan shipley could become very attractive, esp in ppr. he has 13 catches on 16 targets thus far anyway.

I'm seriously considering the same (DHB > TO) but I'd have to cut TO to make the roster space to pick up DHB. I'm dragging my feet on this move but probably just b/c of TO's "name value" and the fact that I used/wasted my 6th round pick on TO.Hmmmmm.....Should I do this - cut TO for DHB????

I say no, but Bloom's 2nd Opinion projections has DHB as a Top 10 Option for week 4 in PPR leagues. Totally hear you on the name value thing with Owens.

Would that be Sigmond Bloom who there's a thread about (haven't read it yet)?

Hmmmm.......mine non-PPR but we have long distance scoring bonuses which could also favor DHB with his speed.

Tempted!

Not sure why I am chairing the DHB committee, but what the heck.. my WRs are unexciting, and Im starting him this weekend (as a WR3 with Owens as my WR2 mind you).More..
Louis Murphy missed Raiders practice Wednesday with an undisclosed injury.Vittorio Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle points out that Murphy missed "a few plays" in the Raiders' Week 3 loss, and the receiver wasn't targeted on Oakland's 11-play drive to end the game. The extent of the injury is unknown, but the emerging fantasy starter should be monitored this week.

Screw it - I'm gonna do it - I'm dropping TO for DHB.
TO is walking a fine line for me as well but Im not sure if DHB is the guy I would drop him for. I am hoping Sydney Rice stays on our waiver wire a couple more weeks and then I will drop TO for him depending on Farve and how he is doing.
