You can tell we're in a lockout because the TO ACL injury has dominated the airwaves on Sirius NFL, the NFL Network and ESPN. Ultimately I have a hard time imagining he'll come back from this and play. As many have said elsewhere, it's not so much about his ability to recover from the surgery, but he'll need time to get back to 100% effectiveness, and then you blink and before you know it he's 39 years old. The question, as with most great aging athletes, is whether HE accepts that fate. I suspect he'll at least attempt to play again. Let's remember that even Jerry Rice went to a Broncos training camp and had to be told it was over.
One of the things I find fascinating is this talk about TO and whether he's a "first ballot" Hall of Famer. Maybe it's just whitespace for me, but I put no lasting value on whether someone is inducted in the first year eligible. Can many of you remember who got in on the first vote after a few years have passed? It strikes me as the media's way of bringing Owens prima donna history into the conversation, because they can't credibly argue that he's not a Hall of Famer, so the argument now becomes, "well he's a Hall of Famer, but his attitude will keep him from being a FIRST BALLOT Hall of Famer!" Who cares?
He's a stone cold lock for the Hall, love him or hate him.
