Packers | Injury update: T. Murphy

Tue, 28 Feb 2006 05:46:54 -0800

Bob McGinn, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports the chances of Green Bay Packers WR Terrence Murphy (spine) gaining medical clearance to resume his career in Green Bay don't appear good. He went on injured reserve after the fourth game when doctors discovered he had a narrow spinal canal. Murphy and his family have talked to four or five neck specialists around the country trying to determine the level of risk if he returned to the game. The Packers would like to have an answer about his availability before the draft. Indications from sources familiar with the situation are that Murphy probably won't play again.

I'm sure this bumps up Javon Walker and Donald Driver not sure what will happen with Ferguson who has never lived up to his hype.

Suck for him, he was a promising player. Ferguson has about worn out his welcome. I bet they sign Gardner fairly cheap in hopes he can play the WR3. He's a better WR option than Chatman and Ferguson.

That's too bad. I think Murphy would have been much more productive than Fergie.

I don't think A&M has a good wr coming out this year so I'd expect GB to wait until next year to grab a wr. :sarcasm:

I also thought Murphy was really coming on before his neck injury...

Thomas Davis's hitting may have already ended a career, but I think it was Poopy's mishandling of the kickoff that left Murphy out to dry on probably the last play of his career.

Another disappointing WR comes out of Texas A&M, although by no fault of Murphy's

Oh contraire :

He got hurt last year in his senior season, but the kid can play a little bit.

Marginal prospect, he'll be lucky to get drafted. He does seem to play faster than the time he put up at the combine.

 he would have been a pro bowl WR.

You're correct. It was Davencrap who mishandled the kickoff which caused Murphy to pick up the ball.

Why is it you gents never include Antonio Chatman?
I mentioned him. I'd rather have Gardner. Do you want a 5' 8" with limited speed catching possesion type routes? He doesnt' have break away speed. More of a quick but not fast guy. Last year's numbers were a mirage. He only saw that many looks because there was no one else left.

Chatman was better than Ferguson last year. That's not saying much though.

Wrong! A&M has one of the best WR prospects in the draft this year, he just doesn't know it yet.

Man, that sucks. Murphy was showing alot of promise.

2005 second round pick, already gone. Not sure what I want the PAckers to do to address the wide receiver position now. I definitely don't want them to sign Walker to an extension before the season. It is a realtively weak wide receiver class, but I wouldn't mind them taking a flyer on a small school raw prospect.

and that magically gave him a congenital spinal defect? That's impressive!

Interesting FF news, too bad for Terrence and his family.

Packers | T. Murphy still hoping to return

Tue, 28 Mar 2006 06:21:10 -0800

Pete Dougherty, of PackersNews.com, reports despite facing 50-50 odds, Green Bay Packers WR Terrence Murphy (neck) still hopes to return to the team in 2006. His odds improved a little this offseason as he's gotten further into a rehabilitation program for his injured neck. Tests last year showed Murphy has stenosis, or a narrowing of his spine in his neck, and the condition is career threatening. Doug Hendrickson, one of Murphy's agents, has presented an optimistic front about Murphy's future from the start and continues to now. Murphy is not taking part in the Packers' offseason workout program and will continue rehabilitation.
