TEs After the Top Four Guys (1 Viewer)

With the top TEs generally being Gates, Shockey, Heap & Gonzo, how do you rank the remaining 8-12 TEs left on the board? I think there is a lot of discussion on deep sleepers, but what about a serviceable starter that begins to show value in the middle to later rounds of draft? I am talking about guys like Witten, Crumpler, Watson, Troupe, Cooley, etc. While it is nice to hit on that deep sleeper in the 18th round, hitting on one of these guys can go along way to sucess this season. Just seems like this group is such a jumbled mess that I don't have a strong feel as to who will come out on top.

My rankings after the top 4:

5. Crumpler

6. Cooley

7. Witten

8. LJ Smith

9. Watson

10. Troupe

11. Miller

12. McMichael

13. Winslow

Anyone out there liking any few TEs over the others in this type of range?

Even though I'm keeping Gates in one league -- I'm high up on Watson. He's a personal favorite of Brady -- and I know Brady doesn't play favorites... but with Branch out for the extended future, I really think he'll become a huge weapon in that offense. He's the prototypical, big and fast TE that is a huge pain for DBs or LBs to cover because they are either too small, or too slow. Plus -- despite losing their top WR I don't see that offense slowing down much -- they just adapt and overcome. I think Watson benefits the most.

In my opinion:

5. Cooley

6. Witten

7. Crumpler

8. Miller

9. Smith

10. Watson

11. Troupe

12. Winslow

13. McMichael

14. Davis

15. Clark

5. Troupe

6. Crumpler

7. Winslow

8. McMichael

9. Witten

10. Smith

11. Miller

12. Cooley

13. Watson

These are all very close IMO.

Jermaine Wiggins averaged 70 catches the past 2 years, Minnesota loses K-Rob, and no one likes Wiggins this year?

That is only about 4 yards a week. Nothing to write home about, guy. ;)

I don't know that I'd put Cooley that high now that Was has a GL specialist in the backfield...
Not sure that changes things that much. Portis is a monster at the stripe himself anyway.

Watson is going to produce in a major way this year.

Who do you think Brady has been working out with all this time? He does not have that many options in training camp to throw too, so you better believe he and Watson are getting in a rhythm.

I know this guy is being hyped beyond what you might expect because he has yet to produce that banner fantasy year, but I think the hype is legitimate and this guy will reward those that draft him big time.

Different offense this year..the TE position isn't as big a deal with Childress as it is with Linehan.LJ Smith did well in Philly with Childress, no question..but the TE position dind't get as much love as it does in any offense Linehan coaches..

From the Mighty JB:"Duckett had 12 rushes at the goal line and scored 7 TDs. That's a better % than guys like Larry Johnson, Jerome Bettis and LaDainian Tomlinson. And WAY better than Portis who scored on just 4 of his 15 goal line attempts."TJ has 27 TDs last 3 years. He should get a lot of GL looks, and bite into Cooley's numbers.

Good stats to back it up. The only thing is that a lot of those 1 yard TDs went to Sellers last year, so maybe Duckett gets some of those. It may have a negligible effect on Cooley.

I would put Crumpler in the big 4 and pull Gonzo out. I think Gonzo's career is winding down. Last year when Roaf was out Gonzo didn't do much. Roaf is gone this year for the entire year. Crumpler never contends for the #1 but is always in the 4-5 range.

ive got crumpler ahead of heap
If you watched Heap and McNair in PS you wouldn't. I have Bubba in the top 10 instead of Troupe.
I think he is thinking after the trade he will get more loks but this is how people blow stuff way out of proportion.. Heap is gold this year. If I had a choice between Heap/Crumpler/Tony G.. Heap wins it hands down.. I got him as the #3 TE this year..

I think McMichael is going to surprise this year. He has had flashes of brilliance in the past and I think will only benefit from the changes the phins have made.

I wouldn't put Crumpler in, but I can see the logic in pulling Gonzo out and making it a big 3.

As a Crumpler owner, I am very concerned over his shoulder surgery and subsequent conspiracy to keep it under wraps. I wonder if he starts the season at full speed and also question if he gets nailed on that shoulder if he will miss time.

If only the guy found the end-zone past wk12 in any season. :D I like Randy around TE 6

I've tried to target Troupe and or Watson in each draft. Sometimes, I'll notice Watson going earlier than I can grab him, but love both of these guys based on their talent and situations.

That an reocurring knee problems. I will go after someone else in later rounds like Smith or Watson.

Watson has really moved up. I ended up taking Troupe at the 10th/11th turn because he was the last of the tier I wanted and had 22 picks til my next shot.

So since Linehan does like to employ the TE in the passing game, where does that put Joe Klopfenstein on this (or any) list?
I loke Klop alot. He is very athletic and fast and he is going into a nice situation.I think 500-4 is not completely out of the question

In all of my drafts, I've mainly targeted Watson (but also Troupe), and been able to get then after the top 8 or so TEs are gone.

Watson will be huge this year, and Troupe won't be far behind. I'd much rather get one of these guys in the 8th-10th rounds, rather than spending a fifth-rounder on Witten/Crumpler/Smith/Cooley/McMichael. Watson/Troupe will put up better numbers than any of those other guys.

And Gonzalez won't even finish among the top 10 TEs this year. :bag:

Al Saunders loves the Tight End. I see Moss coming down a little bit, Cooley going up. Lloyd and Randle-El are not that good, they will be of little impact.

That may be a better way of classifying these guys. Crumpler never really challenges for #1. He's always in the 4-5-6 range. Consistent as can be but not a HR hitter. More like a hitter for average....

I've got Watson & Smith at 5&6. After that, everyone else is in Tier 3.
 These guys have the environment to succeed: Good QB, Good RB, bad receivers. I like them both especially in PPR leagues.
:bank: Im loving that LJ is still slipping even if he's going to see (from Reid's own mouth) an expanded role in the offense.

Saunders loves Gonzo. He was a WR coach before joining KC in 2001, when Gonzo's stats dropped from 1200/9 to 900/6.

I don't know why people are so down on McMichael. He's been a top 5-8 TE for three years running, and is now on a much better offense. Even Culpepper at 80% health would be leaps and bounds ahead of Frerotte/Feeley/Fiedler.

The only negative is that Mularkey hasn't used the TE much on offense, but he hasn't had any TE worth throwing to before.

Not true. Gibbs wouldn't give him much of an opportunity to punch it in for the first half of the year. That's why so many TDs went to guys like Cooley and Sellers.

I drafted him in the Triathalon, but I've lowered my projections for him for a few reasons:- Childress/new offense- Kleinsasser- Richardson
