Texans camp was entertaining tonight. Lots of 11-on-11 scrimmage. AJ was all over the place. He must have had 4 catches in the first 10 plays despite the units taking turns. He had at least 2 catches of 40+ yards. Moulds also looked good. Joppru was working at TE with the first team, though I didn't notice Putzier at all so I don't know if I'd read anything into it.
Domanick didn't work out. Jerome Mathis was still in a boot. Antowain looked unimpressive, especially given it was non-contact. I didn't think there was a very big difference between Morency and Lundy. Tried to watch their blocking but never really got a feel for either of them. If I had to pick one or the other just based on this practice, I might have given the slight edge to Lundy.
I noticed Seth Wand had moved to right tackle on the first string, and Spencer was getting reps at left tackle. Weary was right guard and I think McKinney was left guard though I never did really get a good look there. from what I could see Spencer seemed to be doing ok, though he was far side of the field so I couldn't concentrate on him much. Winston was playing right tackle with the 2nd string and I thought he looked decent when he was in.
The offense seemed to have the edge when Carr or Rosenfels were in during the early drills. I thought Picket looked pretty bad, but Porter did ok. They did a 2-minute drill at the end and the defense just ate up the offense. Carr was getting passes knocked down and was under a lot of pressure. It was at the other end of the field so I couldn't really see which linemen were at fault on the pressure.
I noticed them run a couple of designed QB draws with Carr. Don't recall that in the playbook under the old regime. He has always been a top rushing QB (has to be with as often as he had to bail on the pocket), so it could be an opportunity for a few more rushing yards.
That's about it. Didn't really watch the defense very closely. Dunta and Buchanon were the two standouts at DB. Dunta had some opportunities at picks, and Buchanon made a great play to knock a jump ball away from AJ. He also got up into the backfield once and would have had an opportunity to bring Antowain down for a good loss. (Given his reluctance to tackle in the past, I stress the word "opportunity".)
