Texans/Cards Game Thread (1 Viewer)

Going out, but I got it Tivo'd.

Watching mainly for the Cards side of things. See how the O-line is coming along, and to watch Fitz the Beast.

-dump-off pass to Green on 1st.

-quick out to AJ for a 1st down

-Green for 4 yards, called back due to a holding penalty.

-quick pass to Daniels on 1st and 20. Seems like they're trying to get Schaub into a rhythm early.

-Dayne for a couple

-toss to Green on 3rd down, nice pursuit by the Cards D, nothing there.

Are the Cards playing a 3-4 or a 4-3 defense? I'm curious as to whether the injury to Okeafor has shelved their plans to switch to a 3-4 this season.

-reverse to Boldin on the first play, Boldin launches it downfield to Fitz. incomplete but PI. Boldin threw it 50 yards. Fitz was about 5 yards behind the DB but had to hold up and drew the penalty

-false start on cardinals. pass in the left flat the the FB on 1st down

-James up the middle thru a gaping hole for about 7

-pass to Boldin on a come back route, just short of the 1st down

-cards going on 4th and short. James does his typical lower his head and imitate a battering ram straight ahead. not sure why he consistently does that on short yardage. it's about 4 inches short.

So much for vanilla offense in the preseason for the cards, 1st play is a reverse pass.

Edge is still useless in short yardage, getting stuffed on 4th and inches.

-play fake pass to Bruener. horrible play. cards didn't bite at all. loss of a yard

-AJ and Walter at WR

- Green goes nowhere. bad blocking up front

- Schaub with a nice touch pass over the middle to Daniels for about 15. just over the LB's reach. Daniels took a shot but hung on.

- Green with a nice run off right guard for about 6. He looks a little stiff to me. trying to run over people.

- Another nice Green run to the left for about 8. really nice blocking on that play and Green found the hole.

- Dayne in. play action. pass to AJ, but he was well covered. PI. pretty close call, looked like good D. nice zip from Schaub

- Screen pass to dayne. brought down by an ankle tackle.

- falst start. 2nd and 7. end around to Jacoby Jones for about 8 and a 1st down.

- Dayne for like 1. not much room to run.

- pass to AJ deep down the left into the corner. nice D to break it up. ball may have been a little underthrown, but a pretty good throw.

- 3rd. pass over the middle to a wide open Daniels. Schaub  Daniels. 1st and goal.

- play fake naked bootleg. Schaub scores easily.

NICE DRIVE

- short pass to Fitz underneath for about 5

- James dances for about 3. Cards oline getting a decent push.

- Leinart finds Bryant Johnson on a crossing pattern for a 1st down. everything for Leinart is short right now

- play fake rollout. another short pass to Boldin for about 5

- James falls forward for about 3. another lower his head job. has he always run like this?

- James out on 3rd and 3. I think Arrington came in. Leinart runs up the middle for a 1st down. he needs to learn to slide better. that might have been a designed QB draw.

end of Q1

- James off left tackle for about 4 yards. i'm not really that impressed with Edge today

- Leinart deep down the middle to Fitz. pass hung up in the air and it turned into a jump ball. that was all Fitz going up and getting it. sweet catch.

- 1st and goal. James up the middle for 2. not much room to run.

- Leinart back to pass, looks to scramble, and at the last second found Edge just tinside the goal line. dangerous throw but he squeezed it in there for the TD.

Yes, EJ has always sucked in short yardage FYI. I think people are seeing how his "greatness" was more than a little attributable to the rest of the Colts' O. Not saying he wasn't/isn't good, but....

probably the best preseason game i've watched so far this year

- screen to ahman green, does a nice job to get about 8. kind of an ugly play but AG made something out of it.

- Green initially stuffed on a counter, but 2nd effort gets him about 5-6 yards. Green looking better.

- Schaub deep right to a WIDE OPEN Walter. not the best pass but it worked. Walter got open on a stop and go. Texans OL #70 down on the play, tried to limp off but couldn't make it. Weary. Walking very gingerly off the field.

- Schaub deep to AJ down the right. Rolle the CB with the PI. Rolle pushed him towards the sideline. Rolle having a bad series. ball might have been uncatchable.

- Green stumbles into the line on 1st and goal for no gain.

- Schaub roles out but no one is open, throws it away. Green was closest in the endzone.

- empty backfield on 3rd. pass to daniels but throw is high out the back of the endzone. Daniels wasn't really open.

-FG good

- Arrington with a good kick return but coming back

- Leinart out. Warner in. deep left pass to Bryant Johnson. had it but lost it when he hit the ground. nice throw.

- Shipp up the middle for about 3.

- Warner nice throw over the middle to Barret for a 1st down.

looks like all cards starters are out so i think i'll stop

Shipp looking decent FWIW right now. Warner not amazing but not bad either. That throw to Bryant would have been one helluva catch; no shame in not getting it.

PS when did AZ sign Martin Mull as its kicker?

Rosenfels rolls out and throws back across the middle to Jacoby Jones dragging across the middle for about 15 yards

Jacoby Jones picking up where he left off last week....

Edited to add a 15 yd reverse and another 1st down catch...

Jones has 4 touches for 50+ yards total. 2 run and 2 catches. I think those were his only 2 targets also.

Sage and Jones both looking good. Jones has no speed but otherwise looks very good IMO. Definite value in deeper leagues.

passing attack looks really good...

You know... this is why I have Rackers as my sleeper K. Excellent Pass, incredibly average run game, new coach, new (and excellent) special teams coord. I don't think Rackers will put up the numbers from 2005 but I also don't think he'll have all the crazy long misses that he always seemed to have under Greene. He was perfect for kicks under 40 last year.

Prior to his injury, he was a great back... after injury he was a decent back on a great O... don't mistake the two for each other

JJ is a 4.49 / 40 yard dash guy. Not world class, but more than fast enough. I would hardly describe him as "no speed".

He'll be a starter full time by game 3, and I wouldn't be surprised if the rookie ended up with about 59 catches for 613 yards and 4 TDs.

Can anyone tell me who was the Arizona receiver in the 1st drive, in the 1st Q who was in on the 55-yard Defensive Pass Interference infraction?
