Texans & Giants - player strategy (1 Viewer)

Shark Poolers:

I noticed something this weekend when I participated in a few mock drafts...when I had the opportunity to grab players with a week 10 bye week in the early rounds, I had less challenges in taking later picks with bye week conflicts:

e.g. by taking Slaton, Andre Johnson and Brandon Jacobs in the first few rounds I didn't run into situations where I wanted to grab a player only to notice that my WR # 3 had the same bye week as my WR # 1 or WR # 2 or similar situations with my RBs

This flexability allowed me to take BPA instead of dropping to a lesser player or to another position to avoid bye week conflicts.

What does the shark pool think...does landing a few of these players make it easier in later rounds to make choices on targeting players?

ALWAYS take BPA. I never draft for bye weeks. Makes no sense to me anymore. If one of your guys get hurt, who do you want on your team, a guy whose bye weeks looks good, or the better receiver? You don't even know what your roster will look like in week 10. You always want the better guy. Always!

Sorry, I should have made it a little more clear...say you are picking towards the end of the first round, and perhaps you have a chance to grab Slaton or AJ as BPA...don't reach for them per se and if you land them then you will have an easier time avoiding bye week conflicts later on in your draft when picking players at the same position...this also applies to Brandon Jacobs

I mentioned this in a couple of threads but more along the lines of looking to fill your TE/K/Def with one of these so you can take only one at each position and use the rest of the draft to load up on depth at the core positions to carry you through weeks7-9 where 6 teams are on a bye  .....not having to "worry" about these spots until week 10 would be nice....

TE: Owens

K: Either one

Def: NYG should be solid as well as maybe Houston to a certain extent

should take best available, but if you have something like this in mind it can help you relax a little......personally, it may not determine who I take, but I will be planning ahead for what I think will be a waiver wire/bye week nightmare come those weeks...many owners will be scrambling to even fill out a roster if they dont pay attention.....6 teams on bye combined with an injury here or there will cause some problems.....teams may end up dropping guys they shouldn't just to fill a starting roster and if you use this strategy you will have the depth to slide in and maybe improve your depth....then when the frenzy subsides in week 10, you just do what you have to do to cover your week 10 byes, but by then there should be plenty to choose from...

What about playoff schedule? What about strength of schedule?

The Texans have a favorable schedule for WR & RB, especially during the playoffs
