Thank Obama For Your Higher Gas Prices (3 Viewers)

2.99 for regular here in Charlotte. Seems like it drops everyday. Thanks Obama.
in the $2.70s here in Rock Hill....until they go and up the taxes. That should be fun.
Well when your state has the lowest gas tax in the country, crumbling infrastructure and an aversion to raising any other kind of tax something has to give.
Sounds like it is time to cut education funding again IMO.
I'm not sure they can go negative on education though. Outside of York county and the Charleston area, there's not much that could be cut.
Still contributing something like a generous 10% of the funding for public universities. A lot of fat to cut there.

USC and Clemson could use some cutting for sure. Smaller schools are doing what they can to simply tread water. Not the brightest bulbs are going to those smaller schools. Trust me, my wife is a professor at Winthrop. It's appalling what the requirements are to get in there. Have a heartbeat? Welcome!!!!

I was being sarcastic. Public unis are severely underfunded in SC relative to other states.

I wasn't ;) Quantity of money being funnelled to those two schools and how they are using that money are killing smaller schools...it's really stupid.

Jim11 kneels before the great Obama and kisses his feet for his relentless work on lowering gas prices.

Public University should be free. It would actually save the US several billion a year.

Well they are at 46 out of 50 in funding. Got to bring that number down so businesses will rush in to employ the very cheaply educated.
Business is "flocking" to the state because of all the tax breaks....so brutal  The list of candidates for office here is downright embarrassing.
I'll see your list and raise you Charlie Crist and Rick Scott :X

This is a pretty silly comment given that SC has reduced spending on higher education (from already low levels) as a whole by 42% over the last 6 years and those two have declined in line.

It's silly because you're looking at it from a purely statistical perspective. If you pay attention to where those funds are going (mainly administrators) you'd see my point. ROI is virtually nill.

Thanks to increasing supply, oil prices are falling sharply.

To think that a few years ago people here scoffed at the idea that increasing supply could help lower prices....

Kind of funny the trend in oil production over the last 5 years. I'm no expert and too lazy to find a link but I would guess domestic production has doubled or more since Obama took office. In fact I heard the other day that the US is the largerst oil producing country in the world right now (may be 100% wrong on that one). Anyways, if we are to assume Obama has any influence on oil production then he sure ####ed his environmentalist supporters over while lining the pockets of those greedy oil execs. Kind of ironic. It is nice to see prices below $3/gal and so many good to great paying jobs though.

When Jim11 started this thread, he made the assumption that the chaos in Iraq and the rise of ISIS would cause gas prices to go up. While I don't agree with his "blame Obama for everything" nonsense, I think that this was a reasonable assumption to make. Whenever there is crisis in the Middle East, gas prices usually rise, because international speculators get jittery.

But it hasn't happened yet this time. And frankly I have no idea why. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

There has been a ban on US crude exports since the 80's. It is slowly being chipped away. In fact one recent ruling probably cleared the way for over a million barrels a day to be exported, With our increased production and now moving crude into the market it has stabilized supplies a bit. And so I would guess US exports are helping to mitigate losses from Iraq and elsewhere.

Fracking has driven prices down, but the growth has largely come from private land.
Not sure I understand this. I thought fracking was for natural gas, and mainly in the USA. Why would it affect the worldwide price of petroleum?
Both oil and gas, mostly in the US but other countries are getting into it more and more. And you really don't see how increased production can affect prices?

Read a good argument today that the reason the Saudi's are pumping like there's no tomorrow and blocking an OPEC effort to cut supply is that they're working with the US to #### punch Putin for the Ukraine and Estonia and for not playing ball in Syria. Lower oil prices hurt Russia a ton.

Additionally, it's allowing Europe to stockpile ahead of winter and, by inflicting economic pain on Russia, is making it less likely that Gazprom is willing to cut off European gas sales this winter.

Regardless of whether it's right it's worth remembering that oil gets used this way and lots of times we don't really know what's really happening.

Maybe that's part of the reason but it's likely the Saudi's primary motivation is to knock the high cost producers out of the market. The Saudi's production costs are considerably lower than those in Russia, the US, Canada, Venezuela.etc. Lower prices makes high cost production (deep water, Arctic, fracking) unprofitable so some of those wells go offline. I understand bringing them back online after being shutdown is a considerable expense so some of them won't go back into production even if oil prices return to $100 a barrel. It also discourages drilling new wells in high cost fields until the prices rise again. End result is lower prices now in exchange for higher prices later.

You're asking why in a Jim11 kook thread? Slow troll day for you?

Do I need to fill up monday? Or can I wait until Tuesday? I never remember when they spike again around election time. Neither tank will be empty, so trying to maximize it.

Is it illegal to install a tank and pump in your backyard and just get a bulk delivery a few times a year
What I learned from the walking dead thread is gas expires after about 6 months
They didn't treat their gas with fuel saver. And 6 months is fine. I go through about 15 gallons a week so I'll get a 400 gallon tank and get two deliveries a year.

Actually the primary reasons, according to AAA, are the fact that we had no hurricanes to speak of so no real disruptions to supply and we have switched to winter blend which is cheaper to make.

$2.53 at my Costco today!

Thanks Obama!!!
Obama be just giving it away
Must be like the phones.
I missed out on my free phone.

Just curious, is it illegal for the DNC/RNC or a super pac to essentially bribe people to vote by giving them a phone or a gift card or something like that?
Uhhh, yeah.
Just checking. Interesting how people can give politicians money, but not the other way around.

Wasn't always that way:

On Election Day, Washington was away with the militia. Therefore he sent a friend, Lieutenant Charles Smith, to tend to the election in his absence. Smith appeared at the polling place in Frederick County ready for some last minute campaigning. Unlike Washington’s opponents, who showed up armed with a single gallon of liquor, Smith arrived with a horse drawn wagon loaded with 160 gallons of various liquors. This included 28 gallons of rum, 50 gallons of rum punch, 34 gallons of wine, 46 gallons of beer and two gallons of hard cider. He also had a number of mugs from which the voters could drink.

Washington had spent several weeks making the liquor himself. That’s right! George Washington, like many farmers of the day, was a moonshiner. He was ready to kick this campaign into high gear and give new meaning to the term political party.

As the voters appeared Smith offered them a few drinks to quench their thirst. He invited them to drink to their heart’s content. Many of the voters who appeared that day clearly were not Washington supporters. But, after a few large mugs of whiskey they began to warm up to ol’ George. Smith took this last opportunity to make one final speech on Washington’s behalf to the inebriated constituents. The drunks, that is, the voters who had only hours before disliked George Washington, were now applauding him. No one knows how many voters got drunk that day. But all 160 gallons of liquor was consumed in the festive event.
And that is how George Washington won his first election.
