With the Eagles (9-6-1 regular-season record) and Cardinals (9-7 regular-season record) meeting in the NFC Championship game -- which ensures that one of them will be in the Super Bowl -- the Patriots' draft position has improved by one spot to 23rd overall.Draft order is determined by regular-season record, and the 11-5 Patriots were initially projected to draft 24th. The Eagles were initially projected to pick 22nd and the Cardinals 21st.There is one exception, however, as the Super Bowl loser (regardless of regular-season record) picks 31st and the Super Bowl winner (regardless of regular-season record) picks 32nd.Thus, the Patriots bump up the spot.

Enjoy it, it is all you have.

Do the Patriots really want to move up in the draft? I know it sounds absurd, but from what I read in the Patriots' offseason thread, they have a significant amount of players with expiring contracts in the next two years. Obviously they are still in the middle of the first round where the rookie contracts aren't quite as absurd, but I'd like to hear what a Pats fan thinks about it.

Once you get down that far into the first round I'd think 1 spot wouldn't make much of a difference contract wise.

You are probably right. For some reason I thought the Patriots were picking in the mid-teens rather than 24th (or rather 23rd now).

Well, I'm thinking at least one is sure to be. :goodposting:
Don't forget people, it's still all about the Patriots
Ummm, did you see his screen name? Of course it's all about the Patriots to him. Still, it's interesting information to know especially for those who are highly involved with following the draft. Why such hostility?

Aw come on, these guys thrive on the negative attention. I'm just trying to help out.Honestly, I think non-playoff teams should be locked into 1-20, regardless.

Do they have more than one 1st rounder again? If not, then I'm glad they're picking 20 something. Just a stab in the dark I bet they have multiple 2nd rounders though.

I live in PA, and am watching both the Pennsylvania teams (Eagles and Steelers) go to both Championship games! Here is to a PA Super Bowl! :) It is about the football man!PS yes I know I should wait till the Steelers actually win first.

You're right. We are witnessing the birth of a (Cardinals) dynasty. Perhaps Ricky Prohl should come out of retirement....

I prefer Jim Hart, Mel Gray, Larry Wilson, Conrad Dobler, Roger Wehrli, Terry Metcalf, Roy Green, and Otis Anderson.

Winner!
New England's last SB win was like, what.... a hundred years ago? You're as irrelevant as my team.
The Raiders are hardly irrelevant. See "comic relief".
Pats go 11-5 with a qb taken in the 7th rd, getting on the job training. Raiders go 5-11 with a 2nd year qb that was the #1 overall pick. Please...with Al Davis still running the show in Oakland, I'd rather be a Lions fan.

2003 was a down year for the Steelers. They played bad all year, and the last game was against the Ravens. It was a Sunday night game, and Jamal Lewis was trying to get to 2000 yards. I really really wanted Pittsburgh to win. The game went into overtime, and we lost. It was a frustrating end to a frustrating season.

However the loss moved the Steelers up in the draft the next year. Our first draft pick? Ben Roethlisberger. If not for that loss to the Ravens, it's safe to say the Steelers would not have gotten him.

So you never know how these things will end up.

Yep considering the Eagles have 2 picks in the 1st. They could package those and move up to the top/mid area.

welcome to FBG, where it's "IN" to be a Boston hater.

So in other words, they will probably wind up drafting the same guy. And they will have to pay him a bit more since the salaries are mostly slotted by pick.

But if they want to trade down they will be able to get a little bit more in value for the pick.

I know people can't get enough info on the Patriots.

So now that the Chargers have lost, the Patriots' selection in the second round is in the middle of the round (15th), not at the end.

Thanks San Diego.
