I've used CCleaner for years and I guess it got hacked or something because when I went to update today it redirected me to another website and started downloading malware. :wall:

I went ahead and did a system restore and ran Malwarebytes and it looks like everything is gone but I can't get rid of this healthcare tool.

I tried to Googles and they say to just hit the remove button. There isn't a remove button. I tried resetting Firefox, twice, didn't work. I uninstalled and re-installed Firefox but it's still there.

I'll make a $50 donation to the charity of your choice to first person that can help me out.

TIA, your pal,

Bob

This is somewhat basic but is there an installed program? Click "Start"... choose "Control Panel"..."Programs" and click "Uninstall a program". Is there anything similar to healthcare... Scan for issues if the software can be deinstalled...

You may need a different malware program; I sometimes use several to complement each other and these may be required to get all the pieces out..

Download Spybot S&D 2, update the program and definitions and Scan. It often finds things AntimalwareBytes doesn't.

Then Add-On "AdblockPlus.org" to all your browsers.

Then update to the newest version of CCleaner and run that baby again.

Then update your Antivirus and scan with that.

I haven't used Spybot in years, was considering downloading. Think I'll do that again.

I have ADP you were just seeing the "clean" version after I tried to wipe Firefox clean.

There were about 20 programs that installed which is why I just went for a system restore. None of those programs appeared afterwards.

Like others have said see if it's something you can remove from the Control Panel.

Run msconfig to stop some services and programs from starting up. <you may want help with choosing what to keep and remove>

Download rkill - Link - will start the download

Download Malwarebytes

Run rkill and see if it finds anything (it doesn't take long to run)

Install and run Malwarebytes, but choose a Custom Scan and pretty much select everything. Let it run. It may take a while.

More ETA: You may want to start the computer in Safe Mode with Networking. You should be able to run the Custom Malwarebytes scan in Safe Mode.

My notebook is sadly tattered over the years, but I believe the Duff Man is the go-to guy for these sorts of things (at least if I have my aliases straight).

Ran Spybot. Still there.

Ran Rkill, there were 20 files that it freed up that can be deleted now. Feeling optimistic...

You might prepare the fetzer valve with some 3 in 1 oil. Make sure you use gauze pads. Then use about 10 quarts of anti-freeze, preferably Prestone.

Edit to add: No, make that Quaker State.

That oughta fix it.

Try uninstalling Firefox, then deleting this folder:

C:\Users\"St Louis Bob"\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox

Then re-install.

Didn't work. Up next, Combofix

I had a Firefox add-on that I could not get rid of despite running just about every tool listed in this thread. Wound up doing a Windows re-install. PITA. Good luck!

Yeah, usually Rkill stops processes from running so you can run other cleaner type programs. Some virus/malware will disable your antivirus and other programs like task manager.

Also, here is an add on that won't remove the malware, but will search malware databases for the keyword you choose. Might help you find something describing how to deal with it.

After using Firefox for years and years it pains me to say this, but, after you finally get rid of this thing dump Firefox and switch to Crome. Firefox extensions and add-ons just beg for these things.

ETA: Fresh windows install fixes everything.

Just fixed an issue yesterday with a Chrome extension after fighting with it for a couple of days. Issues are ultimately dependent on the user.

Also just today cleaned up another virus that got past Microsoft Security Essentials. I'm not a fan of MSE, but again it is more of a user issue.

Download IObit Uninstaller

http://www.iobit.com/advanceduninstaller.php

-Click on the tab for Toolbars & Plugins

-Look for the tool that you want to get rid of. If it's there just select it and hit remove
I used iObit Uninstaller a few months ago to remove some program nothing could get rid of. Knocked it out on the first try.

If you're still having issues, I'd give this a shot.

####, that's what I'm afraid of. I finally just made it into the office. I had FF synched to that computer but disabled it immediately and this computer is still clean. I'm wondering if I use this computer as the root, and sync it with my home if it might work.

Didn't have time to run Combofix before I left.

I ran Malwarebytes after Rkill but still there.

I really don't want to switch to Chrome because of all the tracking they do.

My sincere thanks to everybody trying to help. I'm a bit OCD and although it looks like this thing may be disabled, it's driving me crazy being on my computer.

It sounds like this thing isn't being recognized as a virus/malware. Not sure if SLB backed up his Firefox bookmarks and uninstalled/reinstalled Firefox yet.
