Thanksgiving Sides (1 Viewer)

Give me my turkey, mashed potatoes, baked mac and cheese and some dinner rolls (King's Hawaiian for the win) and I am fat, happy and in a turkey coma. Anything else is ok but I'll fill up on the others first.

Roasted Brussels sprouts with pineapple, dates, and chorizo  Deviating this year from the usual honey sriracha with bacon recipe.

I used to be a sweet potato traditionalist, but my sister-in-law makes this sweet potato fluff with marshmallows and it blows my mind. I want to inject the stuff directly into my veins.

For pie, I'm a pecan guy these days.

Stuffing waffles.

I been using em w leftovers since i saw someone do this on Food Network (just stir a couple eggs & some chicken/turkey broth in the stuffing) a coupla years ago. This year i'm skipping the middleman and serving my thxgiving turkey right on top of stuffing waffles

I'm bring 8000 calories worth of cheesecake and strawberry reduction to my mom's tomorrow., and cranberry sauce with candied pecans - which also pairs nicely with cheesecake.

My favorite is leftovers - minimalist turkey sandwich (turkey, French's yellow mustard and Nature's Own honey wheat), Ruffles, and serrano peppers.

Like most of the standards but it's all about the stuffing.  If it's done right I don't care what else is there.  Absolutely no fruit/raisins allowed in Thanksgiving stuff.  Onion, celery and maybe some sausage.  Keep it simple.
I dont remember what my mother in law puts in hers, but this point still remains. The rest of the meal is forgettable and not because it isn't good. It's just that well done stuffing is the main event.

Always sure to load up on leftovers then combine it with fried eggs all weekend too.

Not usually a fan of mixing foods together, but I loves me some turkey mixed with mashed potatoes.  Honestly, I could eat mashed potatoes as a main course.  I actually have.  I went to an Irish wedding and they had a mashed potato bar at the reception where they served them out of martini glasses.  Best wedding ever.

Hot damn this sounds like a winner. We do stuffing croquettes(stuffing-turkey-potatoes-veg) bur this waffle idea is 3D chess to checkers.
I enjoy Friday croquettes better than Thursday

crust makes stuffing (or dressing) soooo much tastier, so waffles is a nachul thang

ETA; stir a li'l gochujang (or even just some chili flakes) into a carafe of warm Vt maple syrup and leave the gravy for the spuds

Intriguing. Our go to around the holidays -roasting BS with cranberries/bacon/onion with a balsamic drizzle

It's all about the sweet potatoes for me.

My sister makes this broccoli souffle thing that tastes great, probably has a lifetime's worth of cholesterol in it. But you pay for it later as the combination of that and turkey results in monstrous gas emissions.

i aint ready for a brockey fart

Fresh cranberry sauce, adding cointreau.  I make a jewish thing called noodle kugle.  Boil 8-10 oz off extra broad egg noodles al dente.  in a separate bowl, blend 3 eggs, 1 cup milk, 8 oz ricotta cheese, 1/2 cup sugar.  in a rectangular tin pan, throw in the noodles.  melt 1/2 stick butter and add to noodles, coating them.  stir in your blended mixture.  in another bowl or the now empty wet mix bowl, add 3 cups plain corn flakes, dash or 2 of cinnamon and 1/2 stick melted butter.  mix then pour on top of noodle mixture creating a topping.  bake at 350 for 45 mins.  Wa La.

Stuffing all day long.  There is never enough made for my liking.  Homemade, Stove Top, I don't care.

As posted in another thread, I cannot recreate my mom's stuffing, so I have gone to a sausage and cornbread stuffing.  By itself, I like it better than traditional stuffing, but it does not go as well with gravy and turkey.

No one in my family likes green bean caserole, so we have gone to a creamed corn dish made up of corn, creamed corn, eggs, butter, cream cheese, corn bread mix, and diced chilis.  Mix it up and bake it.  Good stuff, and family favorite.

Cranberry chutney. A nice spicy batch of this stuff makes you glad that can of mystery cranstuff is nowhere to be found.

Mashed potatoes and stuffing are truly all that's needed to make a good Thanksgiving meal with turkey. Topped with gravy.

I like my stuffing nice and simple. I don't like vegetables or other stuff in it. But it has to be the right consistency of moist with some crust.

We make something very similar, just without the chilis. We call it corn pudding or cornbread casserole.

I’m all about the side dishes. The only time I eat the turkey is if it’s on a sandwich the following day. Making thanksgiving paninis on Friday with turkey, mashed potato, stuffing, & cranberry sauce. Mmm.

I got the recipe form a friend.  He called it scalloped corn.  Doing a quick google search turns up a multitude of variations.  Who knew.

My mother makes an awesome but simple corn dish.

Canned corn (not creamed), empty into a pan with generous amount of butter, sprinkle with handful of breadcrumbs and grated cheese. Cook for a few minutes.

Easy and delicious.

I make a Cajun stuffing with sausage and shrimp. It rules, but I only make it every other year (we alternate between dressing and potatoes). This year I’m making roasted fingerling potatoes with fennel, onion, and bacon. This is a winning recipe too.

Putting stuffing inside the bird for the first time.  Pray for Malaise.
That's the great dilemma.  Stuffing the bird adds cooking time which can dry out the meat.  You're sub-optimizing the stuffing at the expense of the turkey which may be a good trade-off given all the stuffing lovers in this thread.

I've done both in the past but am doing a dressing on the side this year.

wow, i used to respect you guys ...

it's all about the turkey fat gravy done correctly.

you put it on the potatoes, stuffing and meat.

nuff said.

Is fluff another name for casserole?  I love sweet potato casserole that has marshmallows and a pecan streusel topping.

I make a deep dish pecan pie every year, but I’ve been thinking about trying a chocolate version.

It's basically whipped sweet potatoes with a layer of marshmallows and a layer of brown sugar/pecans on top.

I make this mac and cheese substituting rotini in for the elbow pasta.  The use of Velveeta might make it seem kinda cheap, but its really just for the creaminess factor. If you use high quality stuff for the other cheeses (especially the smoked cheddar) and aren't stingy with the paprika the taste is insane.  I can't cook for ####, but this one is always a home run and 3 of my colleagues (all moms who cook a ton and host their entire families every year) that have added it into their meal.

I like the turkey with cream cheese and either leftover cranberry relish and thinly slice jalapenos.
