The 2015 season is half over, and "spring league" ramblings (1 Viewer)

To much of the fantasy community- this season is essentially half over. :(

Sure, many of us are going to be making the playoffs, a testament to the community here and the strategy and ideas herein.

But not all of us are going to make it past week 13, and week 14 in many leagues. In fact some of us, heading into week 8..........are either in must win scenarios or are pretty much "out of it" already. No fun at all.

Inevitably, when we hit roughly this point each season, I tend to feel a bit down. Regardless of how my teams may be doing.

I am in "only" 4 leagues this year, (which is nothing compared to some of you) but I have my hands in some others. I help a couple of close friends with their teams when asked, continuously bouncing ideas and things off them etc. etc.

I also "split" one team with a longtime friend , and thats been a good experience. We are doing well at 6-1 and seem to be a lock for the playoffs and have a good chance at a title run.

If anyone here has never "split" a team with a friend, I do recommend it. (with the right person of course)

You get a bit of a different feeling when you do well. Also, you get another set of eyes and ears when you contemplate a "lottery ticket" add or drop, or when you consider any off the wall move or play.

Anyhow, each year, the time seems to stall for me, somewhere in the late February range, and it seems like the next season will never arrive.

Then the springtime early hype trains begin, news trickles out here and there and the season slowly approaches.

Then the last week before the season starts there is a bit of excitement, then BOOM~! , the rush begins.

This season, has been a real blur.

I cannot complain, I am doing well in most leagues and I have no major gripe. Only that this year has just flown by faster than the years past, it just seems to have been............

"make a few moves, week is over, make a few moves, week is over". :(

A couple of years back, there were some rumors of a developmental NFL league, a "spring league" if you will.

Many leagues have been tried or talked about, most have been a bit of a failure.

The time has come, through massive fan interest for something of this nature.

With all the Fan Duel and Draft Kings ads, fantasy has just exploded the last handful of years.

A "spring league" would be a great addition for us as fans and fantasy players.

Can you imagine say a 10 week developmental/lesser league, starting in May?

Eight weeks of play and a two week playoff structure would be just perfect, and give us a nice fix leading up to the NFL season.

Enough of my selfish desire for more fantasy.........

What are any of your "knee jerk" thoughts to the season being half over?

The season is slowly coming to a close.

I'm surprised there hasn't been more of an "outcry" from the immense fantasy community concerning a "spring league" like I mentioned above last month. There was talk of it here and there, but it never came to be and the NFL itself doesn't seem but so interested in one.

Instead their focus seems to be growing the NFL into more of a worldwide product.

The market is plenty big, and a secondary league would immediately have a huge following from the fantasy starved masses. :excited:

It seem like every season as we start getting near the end, my thoughts trend towards this idea and "fantasy involvement" year round.

Until something else comes along, I suppose we all should enjoy the last few weeks we have left, until next year.

You are waxing poetic. Sounds like as the days get shorter and the trees start to lose their leaves, you get a little melancholy. I don't feel this way until after the current season. But, I'm only in dynasty leagues so the wait isn't long. Once NFL FA starts, we start up. I actually decompress in Jan-Feb and just enjoy the playoffs and a short break to recharge. In between if I need a 'fantasy' football fix, I play Madden.

I don't really want a spring league or feel we need one. IMO football season is just right the way it is. I would say get involved in dynasty more to fill in the offseason gaps.

I don't know if I would call it "waxing poetic". :D

I tend to get these thoughts most every year, and it often starts around week 7-8.

This season in particular has seemingly flown by faster than in years past, but maybe its just me.

But you do bring up one thing and I have alluded to it before, and thats DYNASTY .

I have never gotten into one of these leagues, and its something I have always sort of been slightly interested in.

I do think that would make it more interesting in the offseason, and your "season" is longer in that sense, like most dynasty leagues I reckon.

But the bad news for me is, the local group of fantasy players that I am in close contact with fairly often, they just aren't into it as much as I am, and I don't even know of a single dynasty league near me. I am sure there are some around though, its just a matter of sniffing them out.

Another issue with me in general is, once fantasy ends, so does my football watching. While you could say I am a fan, its more the fantasy aspects, and for the most part I am not much into The Superbowl and all the hoopla that surrounds it.

Week 16 is the end for me generally.

I'm not into any other fantasy sports either really, so it truly is a very long downtime once FF ends.

I personally think a "spring league" or "developmental league" is a great idea, and not just for the fantasy aspects. It would give a ton of players the chance to "audition" for the NFL, and it wouldn't necessarily have to be college players.

It would also give some of the older guys/veterans a chance to help them stay in game shape, even if they played little to none in the "spring league".

As we all know, many of the guys don't always come right in, in game shape...........there is always a few every year.

A 9 week slate would be about perfect in my opinion, and as fantasy players we could have a 7 week season, with 2 playoff weeks.

Maybe its just wishful thinking..........

Thanks for the response,

Spring league would not have fantasy. You can act like it would but that league would only be a subset of low tier players possibly many who are in the league only for a season.

You would also run in to the issue that not many people would care about that league and there would be very low viewership of any type of B League.

Spring league would likely only effect us dynasty leaguers as we would have additional views on fringe rookies.

Spring league would fail if it were started up I only know probably 1 or 2 of hundreds of NFL fans that would even read a box score let alone watch a game or do fantasy.

Fall league baseball has been a tremendous, if local, success. Why wouldn't spring league baseball be similar?

Plenty of playoff fantasy football out there.

Beyond that, join the FBG Winter Survivor Leagues. Draft starts right after the conference championship games. Sign up thread will be int he mock draft forum in late December.

You definitely need a dynasty fix, "where the season never ends"...they are plentiful, but sounds like you want more local interaction vs. playing online with strangers. I've started a couple dynasties with strangers off the Dynasty League Football forums and you can build some good leagues and friendships in the process.

How about CFL fantasy football? when do they fire it up?

Im thinking about taking up drinking more beer. Maybe playing a round or 50 of golf from spring to fall. Dont let gambling or games of chance consume you. Unless your drinking beer and betting your buddys on stupid games like golf or some other time killer out in the sun shine.
